CHAPTER 4/ CONSEQUENCES OF PROTECTION

593 Words
I felt really guilty for what I said to Akira earlier, He had gone through a lot, loosing his only brother and I understand that he's just trying to protect me. I was going to apologize to him, I had made my mind. As I walked towards where he stood, Elder Kato stood there, it seemed like they were having a very important conversation. I drew closer to listen, standing behind a tree. "Akira, you know the law," Elder Kato growled, his eyes blazing with disapproval. "Humans are not allowed in our pack. It's too dangerous." he said. "I'm aware of the law, Kato," Akira replied, his voice firm and authoritative. "But I'm also the pack leader, and I've made an exception for Lily. She's under my protection." he added. "An exception?" Kato's voice rose in disbelief. "You're setting a dangerous precedent, Akira. What about the safety of the pack?" he asked with an unbelievable look. "The pack is my responsibility, Kato," Akira said, his eyes narrowing. "And I've deemed that Lily is not a threat. Her presence is beneficial to the pack." Akira replied. I was still hiding behind the tree, I felt a surge of gratitude towards Akira. I had been afraid of being discovered and forced to leave, but Akira's words gave me hope. "You're not thinking clearly, Akira," Kato said, his voice laced with disdain. "You're letting your emotions cloud your judgment. I demand that you reconsider your decision." elder Kato said. Akira's expression turned cold. "I've made my decision, Kato. And as pack leader, my word is law. You would do well to remember that." I could feel the tension between the two wolves. I thought of coming out of my hiding place but that would be a very stupid thing to do right now. Akira would scold me for ears dropping on an elder's conversation. I just had to find a way to get out of here without any of the two noticing. Akira turned, facing the direction of the tree I was hiding behind. His piercing red alpha eyes continued staring for a while before he finally looked away. I could tell with those looks that I had been caught. "fine!" Kato said as his eyes flashed with anger. "you're making a mistake here and I will prove it to you Akira, just you wait" he said before he left. I couldn't help but feel very sorry for Akira. He had to face rejection and dejection from his own pack just because of me. And the least I could do was to keep on disobeying him all the time. "You can come out now" he said with both of his hands folded at his back as he turned to face me. I slowly moved out from behind the tree. "I was going to apologize for what I said earlier, it wasn't my intention to ears drop, I just happened to hear......" I explained. "You have nothing to worry about, as long as I remain the alpha of this pack you remain under my protection" he said. I gave a slight nod. "Go join the pack" he said. I nodded and walked out to join the rest of the pack. it was unusual how he didn't scold me for ears dropping, it was just like he had wanted me to ears drop on his conversation. or was he angry at me because the argument was all because of me? series of thoughts came across my mind as I headed out to meet the rest of the pack.
