CHAPTER 9: UGLY PERSON

When cloud came back the mansion, he noticed something strange to Zero.
He is so quiet and calm even though it's normal for him to act like this. Because of it, he just let the matter go and started to face Daphne that is waiting for his return.
"What's up?" He wants to strangle the lady in front of him, but he chose to restrain himself because, after all, killing is against the law.
"Here is the list of your items. Their prices are also written beside it. Calculate it yourself if you doubt my skills." Cloud said nonchalantly as he handed over the paper Daphne gave him earlier.
Daphne just watched Cloud as if he was a fool. Cloud grit his teeth and toss the paper on her table.
"You have something else to say, young miss?" Cloud asked sarcastically.
Daphne smirked at him and lean forward. She stared at Cloud with amusement. And that pisses Cloud more.
"Are you itching to return to your partner's side?" Daphne asked Cloud.
Cloud just stared at the lady in front of him blankly.
'So what if I am? Can you do something about it?' He thought.
"You misunderstands me, young miss. I want to go back and rest to prepare your dinner." Cloud said with his most fake smile.
"Oh really? Why do I feel like it's more than that?"
"Young miss. May I remind you not to overstep the boundary? We are here to solve your case and not to befriend with you. So, our personal issues are not for you to meddle with." Cloud said with his sarcastic tone and his fake smile.
Daphne remained silent until Cloud notice and left her alone the study. But, her incoming call ringtone played that made her realize the reality.
"I think I really overstepped it this time." She mumbled as she pick up the phone and press the answer button.
"Hello?"
"Hi! Baby Sunny, did you miss me?" A man's voice echoed from the other line that made Daphne distance her ear from her phone.
"What nonsense are you spouting, Lester?"
Lester Vasquez is Faye Vasquez' cousin and also Daphne's suitor. Because of the friendship between Faye and Daphne, Lester is always taking advantage to all the chances he could get to approach the lady, that until now, is still too aloof with unknown reason.
"Ow! You hurt me there, baby. I am just inviting you for Feyfey's birthday party. I also heard that she have an important announcement and guy she will introduce." Lester said.
"A guy?" She asked.
"Yes, a guy. I assume its a friend or... maybe a lover. What I am thinking now is why her family is so excited after hearing the guy's name." Lester said nonchalantly.
"Oh! Weird."
Daphne knows the Vasquez family. It is considered as one of the first-class families, but, they are a dependent family. However, they are blessed by the family they are under because of the loyalty they showed for almost five generations already. And now, Faye is the fifth generation of the Vasquez family that is expected to build a strongee bond with the family they are in.
"I thought she is already..."
"Come on! Who will follow that old tradition? Betrothal? Arranged marriage? What the? We are already in 21st century, baby! Who would have known if that guy is so ugly that's why they are arranging the marriage since the very beginning, right?" Lester said in arrogant tone.
This is what Daphne dislikes about Lester. He is arrogant even though the wealth he enjoys right now is from the family of that 'ugly person'.
"But... I really wonder why my cousin is so enthusiastic about that guy." He then added.
Daphne knows her friend. She also heard about the guy from her stories. She then learned the exotic taste of her friend for liking cold and indifferent man instead of warm and easy-to-get-along kind of man.
"Your arrogance will get you killed, Lester." She chuckled.
"So what? That guy only have money but no face and etiquette. I am far more better than that ugly guy."
"If you want to boast about your 'perfections', then, I'll hang up." She said and was about to end the call when Lester panicked and apologize to her.
"I'm sorry. I just want to invite you and be my date." He said.
"And what? Be your source of arrogance? No!"
"No! No! I am really sorry. Its just that, they are so enthusiastic about that guy, and I can't help but to be angry with him." Lester reasoned.
"But that is not a reason for you to be arrogant. Remember that there is someone who is better than you out there. You will not enjoying that wealth you have without them so be humble always. Because after all, I hate arrogant people." Daphne said.
Lester heaved a sigh and nod as if like Daphne can see it from the other line.
"Noted. So, will you be my date?" Lester asked once again.
Daphne sighed and thought about it for a couple of minutes. She have no boyfriend and no one is suitable for her to be her date.
She thought about Zero. But, their contract only stated about the mission, and being her date isn't stated in it.
She sighed again and agreed that made the guy from the next line dance and shout for joy for the approval.
Daphne just shook her head and decided to end the call.
On the other side, Lester saw Faye walking down the hall with a her smile from ear to ear. Lester approached his cousin and asked her the question he wants to asked after witnessing the enthusiasm in her family.
"Hey Feyfey! Can I ask you something?"
Faye turned to him, her smile still stuck on her face. "Yes?"
"Can you stop smiling like i***t? It
gives me chills." He cuddled himself while acting that he is terrified or something.
Faye hit him with a frown on her face. Lester knew that he really made his cousin unhappy.
"Sorry! Sorry!" He apologized.
"What do you want?" She asked angrily.
"May I ask who is that 'special' guest of yours?" He asked.
Faye smiled once again that made Lester feel chill down his spine. But, that chill intensified when he learned the name his cousin spoke. He immediately regretted what he boasted earlier. Because, the 'ugly person' he is telling about is actually his idol since childhood.
