CHAPTER 6

1398 Words
**Mark’s POV** Olivia is absentmindedly dressing in her room, so I hurry out after seeing her naked. Thankfully, she does not participate in any pack activity because she does not have a wolf. Furthermore, she has never celebrated her birthday before, as we only assume her age. My parents do not know who Olivia’s real parents are, except for the fact that she is dumped in a basket in front of the pack’s orphanage home. I feel a pressing desire to protect Olivia, to claim her as mine. And I believe that is why my parents adopt her. Looking away from Emily’s stern face, I smile at Ava and say, “I came to shop for my lunch.” “That’s fine, Mark. I am sorry that I missed coming to watch your basketball game against the Red Ballers. I was busy in class, and I couldn’t miss it,” Ava says, her hand reaching out to touch my chiseled chest as she bites her bottom lip seductively. Stepping away from Ava’s touch, I reply, “It’s nothing that you should worry about. It’s just a friendly match.” My voice is calm as I move away from Ava to create a small distance between us. She is our Alpha’s daughter, and she has a sort of charm that compels single guys to lust after her, but I do not want to fall for her charm. “Alright,” Ava bites her bottom lip and says, “Emily and I are already leaving. We will see you later.” She turns to walk away with my annoyed sister, but she pauses and asks, “Mark, that reminds me, will you attend Rita’s birthday tomorrow evening? She’s your coach’s daughter and my best friend too. Won’t you attend it? We will have a lot of fun at the pack’s hotel tomorrow.” “Mmm,” my brows furrow as I think Coach Tyler wants his daughter’s 18th birthday celebration at his home. But it is obvious they are moving the celebration to a hotel, since Rita is going to become a young adult. Ava is 20 years old, and so is my younger sister, Emily. They do not have any fated mates and behave as silly as they like: clubbing, partying, and sleeping around. “Hm,” I sigh because I cannot control Emily. After all, she is beautiful, and Mom has that responsibility to handle. “Fine. I will be there,” I mumble, wanting to enter the eatery and buy the plate of ice cream and noodles that I want to take to Olivia as dinner. “Aww, Mark. That’s so wonderful! See you tomorrow! Come on, Emily, let’s go!” Ava squeals as she grabs my sister’s hand and leads her away. Emily glares at me once more, her brows furrowed as if you would not believe she is my sister. She follows Ava, and they go out of my sight. Breathing out with relief, I focus my attention on the eatery and go inside. The sun sets, and the weather gradually darkens like rain is on the way. As I move into the eatery lobby, the cold air conditioning cools my skin, then I move over to the counter and buy two takeout meals, two cups of ice cream, and fried chicken. The thought of having my lunch at the hospital with Olivia makes me smile, even though the possibility of encountering my mother there gnaws at me. As I pay for my purchase, the eatery attendant who sells the meals to me blushes as she peers at me and asks, “Excuse me, sir. Aren’t you the basketball star player, Mark George? Can I have your autograph, please?” Her brown eyes twinkle with clear desire, and I get this admiring look from most young she-wolves in this pack. If only Olivia can drool at me like that. I smile. “Of course.” “Thank you,” she giggles and gives me her pen and hand to sign on her palm. I can smell her arousal as my hand holds hers. Several young women, both single and married, on the line rush over to me for an autograph. They are waiting in line to buy their own meals, but when they see me accepting the pen to sign an autograph for this eatery staff member, they rush forward, all desiring to have an autograph too, and they automatically forget why they are here. “Star player Mark! Me too!” they beg, and the eatery becomes crowded with many she-wolves begging for my attention. “Star player Mark, can I have your autograph too?!” Their voices resonate in the eatery, turning it into a marketplace, and my head aches as they surround me. The thought of missing my lunch with Olivia gnaws at me, so I wave them off. “No! Next time!” I growl, my hands swiftly reaching to pick up my two packages as I pay for them and dash out of the eatery. The young women chase after me, but I swiftly hop into my red car, shut the door, start my car, and drive off to the hospital. “Phew! That was so close!” I exhale, and my wolf sighs with disgust. “Why do they keep gawking at you like that, both the single and married women? Can’t they wait to find their mates?” Logan murmurs, clearly displeased at the multitude of young women lusting after me. I am handsome, so I cannot blame them. Those women are ready to get into bed with me if I agree to it. *Maybe they have not seen a handsome star player like me before. Besides, I was not the only star player in this pack. Why the lust?* I agree with Logan as I focus on my driving. “Tsk. It’s because you’re handsome. So I don’t blame them,” Logan replies, his voice serious, and I smile. “Alright. If only Olivia could drool at me like that. She barely meets my gaze, and you know how much I crave her attention!” I mutter, holding on to the steering wheel as I navigate my red car toward the pack’s hospital. It is a short distance from the eatery, a 30-minute drive, as it is past 4 p.m. The basketball match lasts barely one hour. Due to the incoming rain, the surroundings gradually grow darker, as it is the middle of the year. The rainfall threatens to claim the lands and territories, flooding the streets and blessing some fields. “Hm,” Logan hums. “Just give Olivia some time. I believe she will fall for us.” His voice is confident, and I cannot wait for that day to arrive. As I arrive at the pack’s hospital, I drive my car into the hospital grounds and park it. When I get out of my car, my hand reaches for the package on the next seat and picks it up. Taking it out of my car, I lock the door and make my way toward the hospital entrance. The Starfield Pack hospital is a magnificent three-story building. The opulent structure has been constructed for ages, and yet it is still beautiful. As I walk into the hospital lobby, Dr. Sam comes out of the emergency unit on the left side and locks his gaze on me. He wears a green garment like a surgeon and removes his mask from around his nose before marching up to meet me. He is not the only doctor working in this hospital, but I am pissed off at him because he has interest in Olivia. How dare he invite her to his house with the excuse of helping her? “Mark, what are you doing here again?” Dr. Sam asks, walking over to meet me. His voice is stern, as he was once my classmate in high school, but after we graduate from high school, he goes to the university and studies medicine while I further my education in sports. “Mmm. I do not owe you an explanation as to why I am here. Please excuse me,” I reply and move past Dr. Sam as I make my way toward the second floor female ward to find Olivia. Luckily, Dr. Sam does not chase after me.
