Thirty-Two Exhaustion clouding his thoughts, Jackson forced himself to keep going, every beat of his heart signalling the passing of time. They had to reach Dalwaring before the gates closed at dusk for Major Wallace to have any hope of commandeering a vehicle from the local Ward to take them the rest of the way to High Command. There’d be no time to rest. They’d have to drive through the night. Wallace would have to commandeer a couple of wardens too, to take turns driving so the rest of them could finally sleep off the punishing rigors of the previous day. At least they’d be able to hand over their prisoner. It would be up to the Captain of the Dalwaring Ward to try to piece together who had hired him. If it was Dillon, they’d need evidence to prove the councillor had violated the rule
