2017 Words
Anna knew who was calling him at this time it had happened before; she went to leave only to look back as a smile appeared on Ryan’s face, so it was true he was in love with Brenda what was he still doing with her if he wanted to be with Brenda all this time. It hurt a lot to see him happy with someone else and Anna didn’t know what else to do except to break up with him. She went up the stairs to retrieve her bag before Ryan had to tell her anything she didn’t know where to go maybe she could go Alex then she will find a place the next day. Coming down the stairs she saw that Ryan was still on the phone and she didn’t want to disturb him, his back was to her so he didn’t see her leave. Anna heard his laughter when she was almost at the door and it was like a wakeup call, Ryan has never been that happy with her and who was she to deny him what his heart wanted. She called Alex to come to pick her and on her way, she couldn’t help the tears that kept falling though she didn’t remember Ryan, she knew that she had fallen in love with him all over again and it was going to be hard to forget him. He was in love with another woman and only kept her around since he had made a commitment to her she was only a responsibility to him. Good thing she had not been so stupid as to blurt out her feelings to Ryan just a few minutes ago. Ryan would have been forced to still go on with pretending he was in love with her when he could be with the woman of his dreams the perfect Brenda. How idiotic could she have been to think that Ryan could ever love someone lie her over a woman like Brenda who was so well put together and beautiful at the same time, well now she had learned her lesson never to trust anyone. The empty feeling in her heart never went away even as she was being driven away by Alex. The tears couldn’t stop falling, after witnessing the joy in Ryan’s face when he received the phone call Anna wondered why she didn’t leave long before she had fallen in love with Ryan it would have been easier to forget him by then. If Ryan really loved her he wouldn’t have taken the call, he wouldn’t have been encouraging Brenda. It hurt to think that he would rather talk to Brenda instead of being with her it had happened every night. Brenda would call and Ryan forgets all about her talking on the phone for almost half an hour only to come to bed when Anna is already asleep. Today she had thought that at least Ryan had taken a step in their relationship by kissing her but all her hopes were dashed away the moment Brenda called. Well, now he was free to be with Brenda, she wasn’t going to be made a fool of, Anna wondered how long Ryan will take to notice that she was gone. Ryan had just been done with the phone call he was making to one of his friends and headed to bed only to find it empty, usually Anna was asleep when he came up from making phone calls concerning his business. He knocked on the bathroom door and there was no answer. Where could she have gone at this hour he was hoping to continue where they left, kissing Anna had been magical it was their first kiss and it was perfect. Ryan went looking for Anna downstairs where she always sat reading but he did not find her in that room either. The downside of the situation was Anna regaining her memory to find out she had been lied to he didn’t know if she was going to forgive him. Ryan just hoped Anna would be willing to forgive, if only there was a way they could get married before she regains her memory. After looking for her all over the house he started panicking and, what if something happened to her and she could not live with himself if anything were to happen to her. Ryan tried calling her but her phone had been switched off, finally, he decided to call her close friend Alex. After she was done screaming in his hear she was able to calm down and she finally told him that Anna was already asleep but based on what she had seen Anna was heartbroken. Ryan felt like he could not breathe he knew that Anna had seen Brenda’s name displayed on the screen when the phone rang and must have concluded that he had been talking with Brenda. He knew that it was time to let Brenda know where they stood in their relationship, Brenda wads his past and he wasn’t about to let his past ruin his future with Anna. That night he couldn’t sleep since he was so used to sleeping with Anna in the house, by the first light he was up and ready to go fetch Anna “Listen carefully Brenda, I’m done with whatever game you are playing I have moved on and I suggest you do the same too,” Ryan was fuming mad by the time he hung up the phone, Brenda had wrapped it in his face that she knew he was going to call her back, delusional woman. If she thought he was going to choose her over Anna she had another thing coming. Taking his car he decided to go after Anna to assure her that there was nothing going on between him and Brenda. If it reaches a point of telling about his past then he would tell her the whole truth including the truth about their relationship. He parked his car next to Alex’s he recognized it because it was the car she used to go to school, and also because at his first year teaching in the university he had followed Anna around to make sure she was ok and most of the time they used Alex’s car. Ryan headed to the front door and knocked but nobody answered the door, he stood there waiting for ten minutes but no one came to the door, at last, he decided to call Alex to know where they were, but she didn’t take his calls. Through the day Ryan tried calling Anna but she wasn’t taking his calls so he stayed outside Alex’s door waiting for them to return, by evening he came to a conclusion that they weren’t coming back. Anna had decided to go visit the place she always went whenever she was sad and Alex accompanied her, last night she couldn’t sleep well thinking about Ryan. She thought about how he was always nervous whenever Brenda was around and the way he always didn’t want them alone. Now she was going to live for herself and try to forget him, it was going to be awkward having to see him in school and not to remember the way he made her feel whenever they were together. It will also come a time when he will decide to get married to Brenda and she didn’t know if she could watch him get married and have kids with someone else. On arriving at the orphanage they were greeted by the kids who already know them, this was the place were Anna found all the happiness. She forgot about Ryan and Brenda just for the time, the head of the orphanage was the woman who had looked after Anna since her mother’s demise growing up here was nice, though they didn’t have much they still managed to get by and not complaining. The orphanage had been there for more than two decades and they got their financial assistance from the government and various well-wishers. Watching the kids play reminded her so much of her childhood and Anna vowed to make something of herself in order to help her home since this was the only home she had ever known. When Martha was told about Anna’s accident she was so upset that she wasn’t informed sooner about it. Anna felt bad about it since Martha had been like a mother figure since her mother’s demise apart from Alex and her family she had been more than family to her. “So, how is the guy you told me about last time you were here Anna?” Martha asked, “is it still complicated or is there any progress so far?” Anna didn’t know what to tell her or how to tell her, she and Ryan had apparently been engaged up until yesterday. Remembering the fact that Ryan didn’t want her was hard for her it was like a wound that can never heal. “There is no guy anymore Martha we broke up, ” she answered without any elaboration Martha didn’t need to know how much she had made a fool of herself in believing that Ryan would ever see her as he sees Brenda. Martha on hearing the tone of her voice knew there was much to the story but she didn’t want to intrude on her private. Martha had always kept to her business not unless Anna comes and asks for her opinion on what she was doing. Watching the frown on Anna’s face was painful for her she had taken in Anna after she had was brought to the orphanage she was like her daughter she had never had children due to her dedication to the orphanage which was her calling. Martha knew that a man will one day be lucky to call Anna his, she had watched Anna fall in love with the man she talked about him a lot and Martha knew that he was a lucky guy. Too bad he didn’t know how to keep her. That evening as Anna headed to Alex’s place she wondered how Ryan was doing, had he gone out with Brenda. Were they in each other’s harms right now, thinking of that brought back memories of how Ryan had been a gentleman to her and respected her? Now that she thought of it may be he didn’t want to sleep with her since he already had Brenda to think of. If only he had told her about his feelings for Brenda she would have let him go, it would have hurt still, but it was better than being cheated on. Anna was thankful she didn’t remember much of their relationship since it will hurt even more having to remember the fun they must have had when they were dating. Every time she had asked Ryan to tell her about things they used to do when they dated he avoided her questions, well there was no use remembering them now since they had already broken up. Anna didn’t wish to remember any of that. It was time to move forward and try to think of what to do next, she might not have all her memories but wasn’t about to sit around mourning over her relationship with Ryan, or what it could have been. When she arrived at Alex’s they ordered take away and sat down to watch the movie “Anna, you haven’t talked much since you came back from Ryan’s place, “Alex says expecting Anna to explain what had happened between them. They had not talked about anything, and Alex was worried for Anna she had not opened up to her which was strange since Anna was always talkative and jovial. Right now she looked sad and like she didn’t want to live anymore. Last night she had listened to her cry, and she didn’t know what to do to ease her pain. Turning to look at Alex, Anna wondered if she could open up to her about Ryan and Brenda but she decided to just keep it to herself. It was already a humiliation crying in front of her friend. “I don’t feel like talking Alex I will tell you everything when I am ready,” Anna said trying to avoid her eyes
