Chapter 4

“What do you mean I can’t go in I have a right to see her” Ryan screamed at the nurse who was trying to prevent from reaching Anna’s. He had been standing here waiting for the bimbo in front of him to let him pass but it wasn’t happening anytime soon.

“Sir you can’t be allowed in her room, only family are allowed to see the patient” the nurse told him

“How many to I have to tell you that am her family, am her fiancée and I demand to see her right now

At that moment Alex got to where they were standing shouting at each other and helped him get into the hospital room.

Ryan saw her lying there unconscious and his heart stopped beating, he wished to have been the one lying on the bed and not Anna it felt. Ryan sat beside her holding her hand which was so small against his.

“Am so sorry my love, am sorry for what I said to you I didn’t mean it please don’t leave me. I don’t know what to do with you gone” he said while kissing her hand, his whole life he had never cried even when he found out about Rebecca’s death. Ryan had never felt this much pain in his life.

Anna could feel someone holding her hand, it was dark all around and she felt pain all over her body, she could not remember what happened to her. The person holding her hand didn’t let go, Anna heard him speaking and felt like she knew the person but could not identify who he was.

Anna opened her eyes and saw an all-white room, was she dead if she is the will she get to be with her mother? Those were the questions which Anna kept asking herself. She saw a girl around her age standing on her left side of the bed and a man holding her hand she looked at the girl and realized that it was Alex, her best friend. She tried to smile but it was painful, she was connected to a heart monitor and she panicked wanting to know what happened to her to be in the hospital.

“Anna, you okay?” Ryan was concerned since Anna did not answer. Alex ran out looking for a doctor to soon come back followed by a doctor. Ryan could not believe his luck, the woman standing in front of him was someone he didn’t think he would ever see.

“Hi Ryan, wow I didn’t know you live around, how have you been?” Brenda was surprised too to see him there

“Brenda? I thought you moved away? Anyway this is my fiancée Anna; she just woke up “Ryan didn’t know what to do just when he decides to reveal his feelings to Anna one of his exes had to appear.

Brenda move closer to Anna who was watching what was going on. She asked her some questions about the accident only to realize that she couldn’t remember. She couldn’t even remember Ryan.

“am sorry Ryan it seems your girlfriend can’t remember you and all that lead to the accident, just give her time and rest and don’t force her to remember, let it happen naturally” Brenda explained after they went out of the room leaving Anna to rest. “if you force it may result in severe headaches, let her rest and stress free”

“Thank you so much doctor, when can she go home?” Alex asked

“She needs to stay overnight so we can monitor her progress, after that she is free to go home”

Alex went back inside the room not wanting to intrude any further on their conversation; since they look like they knew each other. As she watched Anna sleep she was thankful because she did not want her friend staying in this hospital any longer. She knew of Anna’s fear of hospitals.

“So Ryan I didn’t know you were the relationship type, I thought you never wanted to be tied down to any woman?” Brenda tried to understand

“What happened is I met the right woman and I don’t want to ever let her go,” Ryan defended himself “how about you what are you still doing here I thought you wanted to move back to Australia”

“I decided to stick around for a while and I met someone want to see where it goes” Brenda answered him

“I am happy for you, you deserve all the happiness in this world” Ryan was really happy for her

Two days later Anna officially moved in with Ryan after convincing her that they were planning to get marry as soon as she graduated. Anna didn’t know how to feel about all that was happening to her, she couldn’t believe that she had been dating her professor, Ryan had explained to her that they had hidden their relationship for the last two years and that they had been planning to move in together as soon as she graduates.

Anna stayed home for a period of two weeks, in that period of time she got to know Ryan real well and she found out that he was nice and caring. He called her constantly when he was in school to find out if she was fine and made sure she had everything she needed. He even came along with her friend Alex who came to visit her ever evening. It was nice to know that she had people who cared for her.

The only problem came up when she went out with Alex and she couldn’t recognize some people she knew before. They looked at her weirdly the moment they learn about her partial memory loss. Also Alex and Ryan seemed to be hiding something from her since she had found them talking in private several times only to stop when she appears. Anna had this feeling that something major was going on but couldn’t find out what it was.

Every evening Ryan helped her study since she hadn’t had an all clear from the doctor to go back. Speaking of the female doctor she had a feeling that something was going on between her and Ryan, she saw them laughing together every time they went for a checkup. It’s like they knew each other for long, Ryan didn’t look like the guy to cheat but Anna didn’t know what to believe, she found that she thought of Ryan more every time he wasn’t around she missed him and felt like seeing him all the time. Anna found herself falling for him every day but she didn’t see anything wrong with that since he claimed that they were getting married in a couple of months.

Ryan couldn’t wait for the day end to end because he knew he would have Anna home waiting for him. Living with her was a great delight, he found himself falling for her more and more each passing day. The only problem was the lies billing up, he didn’t know how to tell Anna the truth. He feared that she will never forgive him if she ever finds out the truth. The other problem was the way Brenda had been acting every time he took Anna for checkups, he feared that Anna was suspected something but didn’t ask him.

Ryan did not want Brenda ruining his progress with Anna and he had to be forward with Brenda, she had been acting weird around him always touching him whenever Anna was around and calling him at odd hours. It was beginning to get to his final nerve and he didn’t know how to get rid of her since she was Anna’s doctor.

When Ryan reached home that evening he found Anna in the balcony reading as he stood there watching her, he felt so proud of her because despite her memory loss she was trying her best in studies.

“Hi looks like you have been busy, have you eaten anything?” Ryan asked as he kissed her on the cheek “yes I made some food would you like to eat with me,” Anna was excited to eat with him

“Anna you didn’t have to cook, I could have done that” Ryan tried to argue

“Don’t worry about it, you always take care of me so let me do the same this time, go freshen up them come eat ill just warm the food”

Anna was planning on asking about his involvement with the doctor but she didn’t know how to bring up the conversation. If at all Ryan was cheating on her she didn’t know how to feel about it, deep down inside she felt like she loved him even if she doesn’t remember their time together. Was he cheating on her? She wouldn’t blame him after all entire doctor was an attractive woman and Ryan was a man and they had never had s*x so maybe he was sleeping with Brenda.

It hurt to think that Ryan would go to another woman, Anna couldn’t help imagining Ryan with Brenda, they would make a striking couple both well off in their careers and almost the same age. What did she have to offer him apart from her love, will that be enough for a man like Ryan, and she felt like crying but didn’t want to show that she was weak. She will just have to ask him and be done with it if he wanted to be with Brenda well and good. It will hurt but she wouldn’t force herself on him.

Sitting down at the table next to Ryan, Anna watched him eat his food relishing it and decided to let him eat first before they could talk. As she watched him, she felt at peace it’s as if she had known him all her life but according to him they had met about two years ago and had only started dating two months later. Anna wondered how Ryan could have been that in love with her to agree to wait till they get married, because according to him they had never had s*x he respected her believes of waiting till they were married and that made her respect Ryan even more.

Ryan watched Anna thinking she was the most beautiful woman he had ever seen too bad she will leave him if she regains her memory. He had yet to reveal everything to her about his other work as the CEO of his family business. It wasn’t easy to keep the two apart he used his father’s name in business and nobody ever knew that he was the professor. Nobody had ever seen anything about him in the internet and he liked it that way since he got to teach without always being haunted by the press. Ryan had taken over the company five years ago after his father fell ill, he had never wanted to run the business which was a worldwide company, he had to be anonymous in order to teach it was either that or give up his teaching career and Ryan couldn’t imagine giving up his job on the university especially after meeting Anna.

After eating there was an awkward silence between the and finally Anna decided to bring up the issue with Brenda.

“Are you close with the doctor?” Anna asked before she lost the confidence, Ryan was surprised by the question because he didn’t expect it, which went along way to confirm that indeed there was something going on between the two. Had they known each other long or did it start just now

Ryan took his time answering he didn’t know how to tell Anna that he and Brenda had a thing in the past, what if she gets mad and leaves him, he had no choice but to lie to Anna,

“Not really I just met her when I came to see you in the hospital” he answered without looking her in the eye “why did you ask that?,”

“Nothing, it just seem you two are close” Anna just wanted to confirm if the two knew each other

If they just met how comes Brenda was always hanging around Ryan’s harm it confused her. Many times she had found them whispering to each other only for Ryan to move away from with guilt in his eyes

Ryan knew that Anna suspected something and he couldn’t bring himself to tell her, he just had to get Brenda out of their life’s which was going to be hard since Brenda was Anna’s doctor. Ryan went to hold Anna in his harms he had missed her a lot and leaving her at home alone he was always worried.

Ryan had never kissed her since she was discharged from the hospital and Anna couldn’t wait to taste his lips, she wondered how it would feel to kiss him. Ryan was a man who knew what he wanted and he wanted to kiss Anna so much that it hurt he didn’t know how she would react. As he stared at her he felt complete having Anna in his harms. Ryan lowered his head ready to taste her lips Anna moved closer to trying to get as close as their bodies could. The moment their lips met it was like magic Anna felt like she was going to faint just by the feel of his mouth and his hands which were holding her close.

If Ryan was not sure before then kissing her assured him that indeed Anna was the one and he did not want to let her get away. He had been with a woman before but he felt like a teenage boy kissing a girl for the first time. It felt like they had been kissing for so long, but it was only a few minutes.

Anna knew it in her heart that she was indeed in love and she wanted to tell him but right at that moment Ryan’s phone rang startling them he moved away from Anna and removed his phone only to see Brenda’s name on the screen. Well that confirms it Ryan had indeed lied to her because it wasn’t normal for Brenda to be calling him this late unless there was something going on between them.
