The Junkyard

“It’s the Odders, I can tell by the way the birds fly. "It's disorderly,” Idris said. He was the voice speaking. “What are you still doing here? "I thought I told you to leave,” Ramon said. Just then, Desiree regained all her strength. She was a little confused as to what had happened to her. All she could remember was that she was in a lot of pain. “What did you all do to me” he asked as she stood up? “You’re fine, I promise, I saved you”, Ramon answered. “And the other guy, the aggressive one, what happened to him,” Desiree asked, referring to the bodyguard. “We took care of him,” Ramon answered. At this point, Desi could also notice the trembling in the woods. She knew her people were coming. “This is bad, very bad,” she said. “What are they looking for?” Idris asked. “It’s not what, it's who,” Desi answered. “I’m confused, what do you mean?” Ramon asked. “I’m sorry, but I am a spy. "You were right the first time,” Desiree said. “Well, I was sent to survey the area, and make sure no evener was on it, not until I met you” She continued. “What do you all plan on doing here?” Ramon asked. “I’m only loyal to the Odders. "I can’t say anything,” Desi testified. “I told you, bro, they’re all evil,” Idris said. “Be quiet! "Let’s hear what she has to say”, Ramon said to Idris. “I can’t tell you what you want to hear, just leave now before they get here” Desiree proposed. “I’m not leaving you,” Ramon said as he stretched forth his hands towards Desiree. The two were lost in each other’s eyes for the moment. Idris noticed this and became excessively disgusted. He then said, “Ramon, don’t waste your time on her, she’s only going to betray you because of her selfish nature.” Desiree heard this and got angry. She couldn’t stand him anymore and couldn’t stand people always thinking of her bad because of where she came from. So she blurted out, “If you must know, we're trying to turn these lands into a big farm for our people” she yelled. “Is that bad enough for you yet” she continued. “Our children are sick, and need something to eat. As you all know we're not very much of healers,” Desiree said. “And I’m sure you also know we dwell in a land of drastic winter. There’s not a lot of agriculture in there, unlike you all who enjoy summer for ten months in a year” Desiree continued. This time she was making a lot of points and Ramon started to see a new and different side of the Odder's. “If you must know, these are the only areas in the border where we could carry out this activity, to bring fresh crops to our community and help them, and we were hoping it wouldn’t alert you eveners, but it seems you all just absorb everything your eyes sees” Desiree concluded. “I’m so sorry about all that, and how can I help,” Ramon said. “Nothing! I don’t need your help, not especially when you’re an evener” Desiree replied. “We have to leave,” Idris said, holding Ramon at one end. “You can go if you want to, I’m not going anywhere,” Ramon replied. “Fine I'm leaving, I hope you know what you’re doing?” Idris commented as he left. “You should have left with your friend, my people are here already,” Desiree said. Ramon said he wouldn’t leave, he was being stubborn. He wanted to show her he was different. “You’re not listening, if they see you here with me, I don’t know what will happen. All I know is it won’t be pleasant,” Desiree continued. Now the Odder's were in sight, Ramon saw them coming on what he thought were clouds of smoke, it looked majestic. I guess they were shielding themselves from anything that could cause an alarm. They were five men and each of them wore a garment that was tailored especially for royalty, so they were chiefs or something. As they approached the scene, Ramon wanted to meet them, “You can’t meet them, they’ll skin you alive” Desiree declared. “We have to leave now” she declared. She held his hand and ran in the other direction, making sure they escaped the odder elders. After running a while, the two finally arrived at an old junkyard and a small cottage beside it. Desiree checked to see if anyone was there, and there was no one, so they got inside the cottage. “I think we lost, and we’ll be safe here,” Desiree said. “Didn’t they send you? Why are you running from them?” Ramon asked. “If you must know, I lied to them,” Desiree said. “What do you mean?” asked Ramon. “I told them I couldn’t find anywhere good out here. "When they survey the area, they’ll discover I lied,” She said. “But why did you lie? Isn’t this for a good cause” Ramon asked. “It is, but you know we odders are not exactly very lucky, and I just wanted to help every other thing or person in the ecosystem”, Desiree concluded. She looked a bit sad while saying that she was honest. And in fact, Ramon thought he saw a little tear roll down her cheek. “I guess you’re a good person, just misunderstood,” Ramon said to Desiree. “I know I was right about you,” Ramon continued. He walked up closer to her, and she turned towards him. Their eyes met and they were both lost in each other’s gaze. It started snowing, which was very abnormal for that time of year. “Is this snow?” Ramon asked as he saw the flakes from inside the cottage. “Oh no! "That’s not snow”, Desiree gasped. “I knew this would happen, but they wouldn’t listen”, she continued. “What do you mean it isn’t snow,” Ramon asked. “Look closely,” Desiree instructed him. He looked closely and saw that it was, in fact, ashes from a growing fire on the other side of the woods. The fire was also traveling in their direction very swiftly. “We have to leave her right now,” Ramon ordered. They tried opening the front door from which they got in, but it was jammed. Ramon tried using his powers, but he didn’t have any energy left from healing Desiree earlier, so he thought about finding something to break the door. Desiree was alone in the room at the time. She just looked at how fast the fire was coming closer. She noticed something from the little window coming closer to her. Its eyes shone emerald green. She knew what it was and whispered “Oh no!” It was a giant white eagle, known to track an individual, and it came to Desiree. As soon as Ramon came back, he saw the giant bird holding Desiree in its claws, and it broke the door and zoomed off, taking Desiree with it.
