Uncle Pedro’s Bodyguard kept following Ramon and eventually followed him into the woods. Idris on the other hand also followed them quietly from behind.
Ramon got to the spot where he met Desiree and hoped she’d be there. He waited a while but no one was around, “It was a waste of time”, he thought.
The bodyguard, on the other hand, camouflaged with the forage to avoid getting caught. Idris from behind also watched closely. He wondered why the bodyguard hadn’t jumped in on Ramon and arrested him already. It seemed he was waiting for something before he struck.
Ramon, on the other hand, was disappointed. He waited a while and eventually got tired. As he turned to leave, he heard footsteps approaching. As usual, he took a combat pose just in case it was someone he had to fight, but it turned out to be Desiree.
“Oh, it’s you,” Ramon said in relief, running towards her.
“What are you doing here, are you stalking me?” Desiree asked, shocked.
She didn’t expect to see him and was confused, but also kind of happy she saw him.
“Hey! "I’ve been here for quite a while now, hoping you’d come out here. "I’m glad you did”, Ramon said.
“So you’re out here looking for me,” Desiree said, blushing a little, then it hit her.
She asked him,
“Are you out here alone, and how do I know you’re not just here to get even with me because of our fight the other day?” She said,
“I promise, I’m all alone, and there is something I have to tell you…” but before Ramon could finish his sentence, he was interrupted by the bodyguard who came out from among the bushes.
The bodyguard came out with a lot of authority, and yelled,
“Step away from him right at this instant,” he said, referring to Desiree.
“What!” Desiree exclaimed.
“You said you were alone,” she continued.
“I thought I was,” Ramon defended.
Idris, on the other hand, just stood behind the bushes. He neither came out nor said a word, he just stayed there and observed.
The whole situation got heated, as the three argued.
Desiree was convinced Ramon had trapped her, and he tried to let her know he wasn’t aware of being followed.
She eventually got a little upset and couldn’t contain herself. She began to radiate really strong energy that made everyone and everything in the vicinity lose its mobility. Ramon tried talking to her, but she couldn’t control herself.
“You have to believe me, I didn’t have anything to do with this,” Ramon said.
“You have to listen to me,” he continued.
Just then, the bodyguard managed to break free from Desiree’s powers. And with his, pushed her out to a distance, leaving her hurt.
“What have you done?” Ramon screamed.
“You’ve hurt her” He continued as he ran towards Desiree, raising her to his hands.
“Ramon, I’m trying to protect you. "That girl is bad news, she was going to hurt you,” the bodyguard said.
“To hell with your protection, I don’t need it”, Ramon screamed as he tried to wake Desiree up.
“Wake up, wake up,” he said, but Desiree just laid there unconscious.
Idris, however, was still behind the bushes watching. He was also caught in Desiree’s blow-out initially and also couldn’t move.
Ramon’s efforts to wake Desiree up were all to no avail. Then came the bodyguard from behind, saying,
“I knocked her down hard, she wouldn’t recover for another day or two,” he said.
“Let me just end this here, I can take all her pain away just like that”, the bodyguard continued.
“But why didn't she do anything? How does that make us any better than we’ve always thought that they are,” Ramon said.
“I’m only following the instructions your uncle gave me. "He suspected you, but wasn’t sure, so he asked me to follow you and make sure you were safe” The bodyguard replied.
“So my uncle sent you here?” Ramon asked.
“Yes he did,” the bodyguard answered.
“So just let me keep you safe” he continued as he raised his hand, forming a crown of flames, and using his eyes to levitate Desiree so he could burn her.
“No!” Ramon screamed and tried to stop him.
The bodyguard was too strong. Using his other hand, he pushed Ramon to a corner and pinned him to a tree.
Nothing could stop him now. He raised Desi and started to set her ablaze. She was unconscious, so couldn’t feel much.
“No!” Ramon said, trying to break free but couldn’t.
It was getting really bad, as Desi’s arms were already burning up. Ramon couldn’t do anything, he watched and tears ran down his face.
Idris watching couldn’t just sit out anymore. He quickly jumped out of the bushes and pushed the bodyguard to the ground, making him lose his hold on Desiree and Ramon, setting both of them free.
Ramon quickly rushed to pick up Desiree, who was like a delicate flower bruised beyond repair. “Look what you’ve done, are you happy now?” Ramon screamed in anger. He was really upset, his eyes became glossy, and with no withdrawal, he took hold of the bodyguard, raised him up in the air, and was going to strangle him until Idris tapped his shoulder and told him not to.
“It wouldn’t make any difference,” Idris said.
“And besides, if he doesn’t return home, your uncle will know something has happened”, Idris concluded.
“What do we do with him?” Ramon asked.
“What do we do with you?” Idris asked the bodyguard rhetorically?
The bodyguard said he wanted them to kill him, but they refused. Ramon had an idea. He used his powers to wipe out all the memories of the event and anything leading to the event. And also installed something in the bodyguard's mind to respond if he gets asked about the errand he was sent, and they sent him away.
The memory wipe was a highly illegal thing to do among the eveners, and if caught, the person could be hanged or even worse. The Eveners believed in transparency, and they felt that that process would defeat their beliefs, so they all together banned it, but Ramon had to take his chances.
Now, it was just Desiree left. She lay on the ground in excruciating pain. And Ramon was among a few Eveners who hadn’t fully mastered his healing powers, so he asked Idris,
“Could you please heal her for me?”
“I wish I could, but I can’t,” Idris said.
“Why bro?” Ramon asked.
“She… She’s”, Idris stuttered.
“She’s what?” Ramon asked, knowing fully well what Idris’s answer was going to be.
“She’s an odder, right, you’re still on that bro, so you’re just going to let her die then?” Ramon asked.
“You know what, I don’t need your help, and I’ll do it on my own,” Ramon said.
“You’re not ready yet, you’ll hurt her even more if you try,” Idris said.
“And why do you care, it seems you want her dead in the first place?” Ramon responded angrily.
“Bro, I’m just trying to tell you…” Idris said and was interrupted.
“I don’t want to hear it, just leave, Leave!” Ramon commanded.
Idris had no option but to go. Ramon, on the other hand, tried healing Desiree himself. It was too painful to watch, as Idris was still watching from around the corner. She was screaming, and her energies were escaping her due to the pain from the wounds. Her wounds suddenly began clotting until it stopped and soon started to reopen. Ramon on the other hand, was losing it. He didn't know what to do, then looked away. Desiree was still screaming, then stopped.
As Ramon looked at her again, she was fully healed. He was happy, he couldn’t believe it. But as he celebrated, he heard a rumbling sound from the other side of the woods.
“What could it be?” he asked himself, an answer came from behind him.
“It’s the Odder's they’re coming close. I can sense their energy”.
