Eveners and Odders

Idris listened carefully to Ramon as he whispered to him. Ramon told him about Desiree and how they fought and how he knocked him out. “That’s okay bro, is that why you’re whispering?” Idris said. “I know you’re the best among us in using your talents, but getting beaten down by a girl once, doesn’t make you weak” Idris continued. He seemed to have missed the main topic of what Ramon was saying. However, Ramon himself was not very clear. “You don’t understand,” Ramon said. He stood up and turned backward, trying to avoid eye contact with Idris. “You see, I think I like this girl, I like her a lot,” Ramon said. “That’s great bro, so how do we find her? Maybe we could search the detention centers since she’s a crazy girl out in the woods,” Idris said trying to be funny. “You do understand bro,” Ramon said again, and each time he tried to tell Idris the truth about Desiree, he just wasn’t able to. “Then make me understand, you keep saying I don’t” Idris charged Ramon. “She’s an Odder!” Ramon screamed. With that comment, the room grew cold, it seemed everyone became inanimate. “What did you just say?” Idris asked. “She’s an Odder,” Ramon whispered. “Yes I heard you the first time, this is unacceptable. You know what we’ve been taught about those evil devil incarnates” Idris jumped in. “And how did you find out about her?” Idris asked. “I saw the mark on her hand,” Ramon answered. “Okay, and did she see yours?” Idris asked again. “Yes she did,” Ramon answered. “This is wrong, Ramon. "You know you can’t like her like that, you have to promise not to go looking for her again,” Idris said. “I don’t think I can do that,” Ramon replied in an honest tone. Then Idris threatened him, he said, “Then I’ll tell your uncle,” Idris said. “I’ll tell him everything, I’ll tell him you snuck out and that you’re fraternizing with an Odder” Idris threatened. Ramon was upset, but his uncle had a higher power over him, and he knew he wouldn’t take it well, so he agreed with Idris not to look for Desiree again. In return, Idris never mentioned it to anybody. Ramon didn’t quite get why everyone was so cold concerning the Odders. He knew they were rivals, but he still needed to know why he needed to hate them, so he sought out to know their history better. Ramon went to the Chapel. The Chapel was the only place he could learn the truth about their history without any bias. He met with the Minister there and asked him straight on, “I need to know the entire story of our relationship with the Odders” he asked. “Oh well, this is quite rare, nobody ever comes to asks these question” The Miister said. “Alright sit down, what do you want to know” The minster asked him. “Everything” Ramon answered. You see, the whole situation about the Eveners and the Odder's was a tale as long as time. The eveners and others were a population of “Meta humans”. They were all blessed with unique powers which they called “Talents” Although the Eveners and the Odder's were once united and coexisted, but they had a big fall. The Minister also sat as he told his tale, he said, “Eveners were born with extraordinary powers which pushed forward to creation, animation, and light. We could give life to and control whatever is in sight, and have healing abilities as you know, and we all have that same sun shaped eveners mark on our hands” The minister said. “I kno0w that already, in want you to tell me something I don’t already know” Ramon said. “You have to follow me to understand where I’m headed”, the minister replied. “Meanwhile, the Odder's are a tough one. Their talents were the same except, everything they touch gets destroyed. They could take down an entire country with just their mind, create and control weapons of destruction, and they didn’t have healing abilities like we eveners. And as you know they have the mark of the moon to show they’re Odders” The minister concluded. “How is any of this supposed to help me, I know this already” Ramon blurted out. “Well, what you want to know is something you already know” The minister said, but Ramon was lost and didn’t understand. The minister continued, however saying, “The eveners and the Odder lived peacefully once as one community. But all of a sudden, they couldn’t stand each other anymore and got divided, taking a sector of each of their lands. “The eveners took the lands with more vegetation and water, while the odder's occupied winter lands. Of course, both civilizations were quite shielded from the reach of mere humans, but frankly, mere humans were not a problem to these people” The Minister continued. “The Evener’s called the Odder’s evil and self-absorbed people who only love to destroy. And the odders called the eveners fake, lying people who posed to be good but weren’t” The Minister concluded. Ramon had to agree with Idris not to go look for Desiree after hearing all these. Although he was now surer than ever that the Odders were not the enemy. But refusing to go look for Desiree would not be possible, as every passing hour all he could think about was her. Ramon had dinner with his family later on. Idris was also there, as he almost always used to be. They all sat, ate and talked about how their day went. “So how did your day go, Ramon, you’re not saying anything?” Becca Ramon’s cousin asked. “Yes, you’ve been awfully quiet, are you okay?” His uncle Pedro asked too. Ramon was however still very quiet. All of a sudden he spoke, he asked a question and directed it to his uncle. He said, “I’d like to ask a question, uncle!” “About what?” His uncle asked. “It’s about the Odder uncle, is everything we say about them all true” Ramon asked, Becca and Idris both raised their heads reacting to why Ramon asked such a question. “Well, I don’t know why you’re asking me this, but I’ll have you know, everything said about the Odder's is all true,” His uncle said. “And I’d appreciate it if you don’t ask me anything else about those cruel-nature fellows,” he concluded. “I’m sorry uncle, but I think we’re all wrong,” Ramon added. “I don’t believe the Odders are all as bad as we think they are,” he continued. Idris sitting beside Ramon gave him a sign telling him to discontinue whatever he had just started. Becca on the other hand tried calming down her father, who had now been angered by Ramon after he told him not to ask any more questions about the Odders. “What is wrong with you child!” Uncle Pedro busted out in anger. “It seems you’ve forgotten that those people are the reason your parents are gone, remember?” he yelled continuously. “I don’t know where all of this is coming from, but I promise you, if this has anything to do with an Odder, I don’t even want to believe it… I just hope you’re only asking questions”, Uncle Pedro said. Ramon on the other hand got a little terrified. He had never seen his uncle this upset about anything like this before, and very passionately too. He quickly thought of the next best thing to say to ease the whole matter on the ground, he said, “I was only asking, I haven’t met an odder, I just wanted to know… I’m sorry uncle” He apologized. Then he stood up from the table and went to his room. He was just hovering back and forth thinking of what to do. He needed to see Desiree, and he felt nobody could change how he felt about her. Idris walked into the room as well. “What was that all about back there?” Idris asked Ramon. “We had a deal, you don’t go to see the girl or say anything about anything” he continued. “I don’t think I can do it, bro,” Ramon said. “Hold on, what are you saying,” Idris asked. “I’m saying I think I’ve fallen in love with Desiree and I have to see her again” Ramon blurted out. “Are you crazy? You could get into serious trouble, you could die!” Idris said. “And you only just met her, how do you know you love her?” he asked. “I just know,” Ramon answered. “No bro, I can’t let you do this, and I don’t want to get involved” Idris uttered. “You’re all on your own” he concluded. “I know you know what it feels like to be in love with someone. I see how you look at my cousin Becca” Ramon said. Idris was quiet. “You don’t have to say anything I’ve always known, but I need you to let me do this” he continued. They were both quiet for a while, Idris however still noted that he didn’t want to be part of anything Ramon was doing, and he didn’t support him. Ramon was stubborn, however, and told his friend he was going to go wait for Desiree where they first met, no matter how long it would take, and he zoomed off the building through the window in his room. Idris watched as he was leaving from afar. Then he noticed Uncle Pedro’s bodyguard following Ramon, “Uncle Pedro must have sent him to spy on Ramon”, he thought. “This is very bad, if he catches Ramon at the b oard and tells his uncle, it will be over for him,” Idris said. “I have to do something,” he said, and jumped out the window and followed them.
