CHAPTER FOUR

1166 Words
ATHENA’s POV. Just before I reach the down floor, a hand grabs me before I can step into the escalator. I don’t move, I don’t turn to see who it is. I don’t even care at this point. The only thing I want to do now is run away and hide from the world, a place where no one will see me and mock me; I am a failure in all aspects of life and even if I try to pretend about that, the truth still remains. “Mrs Athena,” Doctor Seth’s voice filters through. Somehow, in the span of a few hours, he has shown up for me. He helped even when I fainted a while back. I want to think of him as an angel but then, he is a doctor and this is his job. My chest tightens as I think about everything that has happened in a few hours. I can’t even feel myself anymore. It feels like I somehow materialized out of my own body and I am standing somewhere watching all this happen. “Athena,” he calls again as he turns me around to face him. “This is wrong,” he says, “you can’t remove your drip and run off like this,” “I want to go home,” I say, my voice hoarse from pain and anger, “I will lose my mind if I keep staying here, doctor.” “Your mind won’t be the only thing you lose,” he answers, “you can lose your baby as well,” “No,” I yell and push him off. His phone falls out of his pocket in that instant and smashes against the hard ground. It immediately scatters but not once does he look at it—his attention remains on me like he wants to learn me. “Your pho—ne,” “Come back to the room with me,” he suggests again, “you need rest,” “Athena?” I hear Stefan’s voice behind me and I immediately freeze. It seems like someone has poured a bucket of water on me. My whole body tenses up and I feel the tears threatening to burst out of my eyes. “Quit stressing the hospital staff out and come back to your room,” Stefan suggests,”I need to make sure you are fine before I take Gemini home. She is tired.” The nerve! The audacity of him to stand there and say that to me. How dare he hurt me this way? How dare he choose my sister over me? “You surely don’t want to cause a scene now, do you?” Gemini’s voice penetrates my ears and I finally turn my attention to the two of them. For a few seconds, her words continue to ring in my head. The audacity of her to speak to me in that kind of tone. “So quit whining and go back to the hospital room,” Stefan adds again, irritation evident in his voice. “Pathetic,” Seth hisses, his eyes darting across the three of us. “Are you supposed to be speaking to your wife in that kind of a tone? She is on the verge of losing the baby and you— “I don’t think it’s any of your business, doctor,” Stefan interrupts him, “just do your job as my wife’s doctor and allow me do mine,” after he is done talking, he clasps his hand over Gemini’s waist and pulls her closer, “let me take you home, I will come to cheer on you later,” Before I can say anything else, I watch the two of them walk towards the escalator while I stand there looking at them. The further they go, the more my heart breaks. That is my husband in the arms of another woman and I— “Let’s take you back to your— I tune out his voice as I slump on the ground, not even caring about the baby inside of me. I want to express my pain but I don’t know how to go about it. Somewhere in my head, I am screaming but I don’t know how to let the scream out of my mouth. “I want to die,” that’s the only words I keep muttering as my eyes blur the more. “f**k,” I hear Seth hiss and before I can understand what’s going on. He gathers me off the ground and makes his way towards the rooms again. I don’t say a word, I just lie there limply. Two nurses wheel a stretcher to us but he declines and only tells them to prepare for something. I don’t hear him and I don’t even bother with it. The only thing I want to do now is close my eyes and ask the moon goddess to take my life. We finally enter the room and he gently lays me on the bed. I turn to the wall but his words continue to reach my ears. “Prepare a vip room for her,” I hear him say, “and have someone clean this room. “Yes, doctor.” I close my eyes and allowed my mind to wander off. I didn’t want to be in the present. I wanted something that would take me away from whatever was going on right now. “Athena?” His voice pulls me out of my train of thoughts again. I don’t turn and I don’t acknowledge him either, “I will have you transferred to the ViP room in a few minutes and you will be there until you are fully ready to leave. If you don’t want anyone coming to visit you, that’s fine by me” “I just want to go home,” I manage to whisper. “I am afraid I can’t let you go home,” he answers, “you have suffered a heavy trauma and I am afraid something may happen to you or your child if we let you go. You can leave after you are fine completely,” “Child?” I scoff, finally turning to him, “what use is the child when the father doesn’t even want it? Didn’t you see? My sister is pregnant for him and my child does not matter. So there is no need. Just let me be, please.” “It’s my duty to protect you and your baby,” he says again, “and I will do that. We will run more tests on you to be sure the baby is okay,” After he is done, he turns to leave but my next words halt him. I don’t know why I said that, I don’t know what has come over me but maybe I have been begging for so long and no one actually heard me. “Help me!”
