Chapter 6

1902 Words
Hazel’s POV “Mom, I’m done. Are you?” Going down the stairs I knocked on my mom’s room door and entered hearing no reply from her. “Mom… mom!” Going inside I looked around to find the room empty. “Are you in the washroom?” Sitting down on the chair I asked while going through the album kept on the table.  “Yes honey, I am in the washroom. Just a few minutes.” Her answer came from the washroom giving me an idea of why I can’t find her in the room. “What happened today? Why are you taking so long?” Seeing the old pictures I smiled recollecting all the memories and stories I have heard since childhood from my mom. About my dad and their love story, how happy my dad was hearing about my mom being pregnant with me. Though I was not present at that time hearing everything from my mom makes me feel as if I was there and I am with my dad for those moments. “Come on honey, I’m done.” I raised my head from the album to find my mom in a completely different look. “What happened? Why are you staring at me? Am I looking weird?” getting conscious of my gaze she started questioning. “Mom…” I said taking a pause to walk over to her for having a good look at my new, gorgeous mom. “You are just looking so damn STUNNING,” I said and started jumping holding her hands. “But, how come you got ready like this today? I have never seen you like this.” Walking around her I said with happiness as not only stunning but she looking much more alive than before. To tell the fact, she was just living life and struggling for me only otherwise I have always heard her talking to dad at night looking at the sky, “I am very tired, love. I just to leave everything and embrace you tightly, if not for our daughter the symbol of our love. You know today she excelled in her class, I know you must be smiling proudly and blessing her, right?” Hearing all these and finding my mom crying every night I used to feel bad for her. I don’t know how it is to be in love and how it is to lose that one and only person but seeing my mom for seventeen years I learned it hurts the most. Therefore, today seeing her so glowing and cheering I am feeling very delighted. This much happy she only used to be once in a year and that is my birthday. She never missed celebrating and make my day less than any special festival. Though I don’t have a dad my mom never let me feel like that, she always has worked hard to fulfill both the parent's duties for me. “After along I am going to meet everyone and especially your dad’s family and friends. So, I must look good right?” She said checking herself in the mirror. “What happened? Why are you staring at me like that?” Wearing her heels and grabbing she looked around to see if something she is forgetting about. “See, I forgot to keep it inside.” Her gazing falling upon the album she said. “What happened? Why are you not saying anything?” Turning around she looked at me with a frown. “Uh, I-it’s nothing mom, just thinking how much important this town must be for dad that you are getting so nervous." Seeing her nervousness I said or might be asked. “Honey, this town… I mean pack is where your dad spent his entire life. The people here are his family and it has been since I came here with your dad. You won’t believe how awesome and welcoming everyone here is. At the first instance only they made me feel like family, the warmth…” As she would just keep on going and going, therefore, I interrupted her in between. “The warmth they radiate is something special. You will be knowing it soon as we are again to be a part of this big family.” I recited what I have been hearing from for the last seventeen years and the last line since a month from when our shifting plan was executed to the pack. “You naughty girl, making fun of me!” With a smile on her lips, she came towards me to again twist my ear and again I made a run towards outside escaping from her while laughing and making her scowl. . The pack house is within walking distance of our house so we decided to just walk instead of riding the car. Actually, since coming here I haven’t seen anyone riding any vehicle. Everyone depends on their legs to cover the distance of their destination, which actually also gives me a kind of good feeling. Walking is better than riding vehicles, I have always believed as my mom has taught me saying, “Your dad used to love walking and hate the vehicles. He used to say walking keeps you active and saves the environment too at the same.” Even when we were in the city we used to have only a bicycle and a car for emergencies or long distances. Otherwise, mom and I used to always walk for going anywhere. There are many more activities and habits of dad that mom still maintains. It is her one of the sources of living after me and now has become mine too as my dad used to believe it. Even I love this habit now especially after coming to this place as wherever you look around you will only find greenery and walking on these green grasses gives you such a nice feeling of being close to your mother earth. “Here, we are and there all are.” I look at my mom as she smiled brightly looking straight. Turning my head, I found two couples standing with a warm and welcoming smile but looking at one face i gasped recignizing her. “After a long, dear. How are you?” The lady in her fifties whom I met very first at the school, our dean greeted hugging my mom. “Oh my, Harley.” Came forward to the other lady who is Luna of this place, hugged my mom. Smiling at the way they so warmly welcomed my mom I felt the exact meaning of what my mom used to always tell me. My gaze then went behind the ladies upon the two men standing with smiles on their faces and then exactly at the moment the Alpha’s gaze came to me who smiled. “Mom, love, if you both are forgetting I think their daughter is also here.” He said bringing the three ladies out of their emotional zone and turn towards me. “Oh, we are so sorry dear. Seeing your mom after so long brought back the memories we shared once. Therefore, I just got into it." “No problem, Luna. I understand.” Hearing me her eyes got bigger as if in shock and looked at my mom. “She heard everyone calling you both that. So, she also…” Mom replied making her get back to normal and she smiled welcoming me.  "So, its our second time meeting each other." Holding my hand said my dean as she took me inside while others followed us. Nodding my head, i smiled at her in reply, "So, did you liked the school?"  I nodded my head but this time also used the words, "Yes...mam." Not knowing what to refer her outside at the gatherings of our families therefore I selected the most simple respectful word. "Ohh, just call me granny or grandma, mam and dean are only for school, okay? We are family so use mam only in school." Everyone here are so grounded and loveable with affection clearly visible in their eyes even for someone non-familiar like me.  “Where are you children, Luna? And, where are the Kyler and Lauren? There kids?”Mom questioned looking around the house as if remembering the old days completely visible in her beautiful eyes. “All the kids are upstairs, I’ll call them. And, Kyler and Lauren have gone to her pack as her dad called them for some pack issues.” Luna said taking us to the dining room which was bigger than even our old house and it was already one of the largest houses in our area. “Come honey, have a seat. I’ll bring drinks for both of you.” Going towards the kitchen which I can say is an open kitchen she said. “Umm… Luna, I think one juice.” My mom said hesitating a bit. “Avery, remember?” Luna said making mom and others smile and chuckle to which mom nodded. “Sure, one juice. I forgot our girl is not eighteen yet.” She said when I turned to my mom who never misses caring about me. “Emily, go and tell the kids that everyone is here. tell them to come downstairs.” Nodding her head, the girl named Emily went upstairs. Whispering to my mom I asked her, “Who is she?” “She is also a pack member and works at our house,” Alpha said making me scared at his sudden answer. I was confused how come he heard me even after I just whispered that too very low. “Oh, so you mean she is a helper,” I asked with little hesitance when he replied with a yes. But, even though the girl is a helper she didn’t seem like one. Any new person won’t be able to say that she is by how well Luna treated her though she was not looking at the luna. “Mom, Dad, where are they?” a cheerful voice grabbed everyone’s attention and we all turned towards it and saw a girl in her fifteen’s or sixteen came down the stairs. “Honey, slow down or else you will fall.” Said, the elder lady. “Oh grandma, I won’t,” she said and then her gaze came upon us. “Hello aunty,” she came and greeted my mom to which my mom seemed very impressed as she started chatting with her. “Hello, you are… Alaia?” mom asked to which she nodded excitedly and replied, “Yes, oh how do you know my name?” “You look exactly like your mom.” Mom answered and as before they would be able to take progress Alpha interrupted them. “Harley, this my son. Asher, the future alpha.” Hearing his name I looked to the right side and found him already staring at me with the same intense gaze giving me goosebumps and yet again I started feeling hot.
