Chapter 13
Sleep was impossible. I lay in bed watching the roof. Every time my mind wandered to that ancient scroll or the elders' words, the sparks would intensify.
A sharp knock at 6 AM made me jump.
“Coming!” I rushed to open the door, finding June's face on the other side.
“You're early,” I said, trying to smooth my messy hair.
“Yesterday's dining hall incident means we need to step up your training.” June's expression gave nothing away. “Be ready in five.”
Great. My little power display with Josie was coming back to bite me.
The training grounds were eerily empty when we arrived. Usually, there'd be at least a dozen wolves running drills or sparring, but today it was just us and a few senior warriors in the distance.
“Where is everyone?” I asked.
“I cleared the area.” June st
