I Don't Like you
Bryan's pov
"I want to ask Ani to be my date for prom night but I don't know if she will agree, I'm even scared to ask her".
"come on cous. you've not even made an attempt and you are already giving up"
"You talk as if you don't know Ani. Do you know how many guys she has turned down lately. I'm even begining to wonder if she's normal".
"you mean being gay?"
"I don't know. I honestly don't know what to think any more. It's driving me crazy".
"maybe you should ask her"
"what,,,, seriously?"
" yeah, seriously. You are going to her place today right?", Dan, his cousin asked.
"yeah, right".
"so you take up the opportunity to ask one out of two questions".
"What questions?"
"Dummy, you either convince her to be your prom date or you find out if she's gay".
"I'm not doing that. Are you coming with us?"
"no".
"thank God", Bryan said as he heaved a sigh of relief.
"I could actually have a change of mind you know", Dan teased.
"please don't", Bryan pleaded with joined palms trying to suppress the wild laughter that threatened to escape his lips.
"Don't worry Bryan I've got something more important to do", he replied taking his leave at the same time.

Bryan was the son of one of the Stevens Enterprise (Ani's parents) business partners. Amongst all their business partners, the Denisons (Bryan's family) were closer to the Stevens than the others and that provided Bryan little opportunities to hang out with Ani. Little, because most times Ani shunned his presence, it was only due to pressure from her parents that she gave those little chances, and sometimes, she pitied him.
"Ani,"
"yes mom"
"get the door"
"okay mom"

"Good evening Mr. Denison, Mrs. Denison",
"Good evening Ani. How are you doing?"
"I'm doing great, thank you"
"Oh, our guests are here", Mrs. Stevens interrupted.
"Come on in, dinner is set", both parents went in, leaving Ani and Bryan alone.
"hi Ani"
"hi Bryan, welcome to our house"
"you know, if you were to welcome some other guests with that look on your face, I bet they won't think twice before running for their dear lives".
"And I bet it would be safer if you started running now".
"Ani, do you always have to be so hard on me, why do you hate me this much?"
"Bryan, I don't hate you. I don't like you".
"what do you mean by you don't hate me and you don't like me. Ani why can't you just give me a chance in your life, please"
"Bryan, you are a nice guy and I know any girl would readily jump into your arms, but I'm sorry, I can't do that and the more you bug me the harder I become on you. I don't want to hurt you Bryan but I will not please you by hurting myself. I'm famished, I need food".
With that Ani left for the dining leaving Bryan behind to think of how unlucky he has been with her, "how much tougher can she be", he thought to himself.
"Ani dear, how are you preparing for the prom", Bryan's mom asked while they ate at the dinning.
"fine"
"just fine, come on baby tell us more. Who's your escourt?" Her mom interferred.
"no one"
"why is that?"
"because I want to escourt myself mom"
"come on child, don't be ridicilous. You know I think you should allow Bryan to be your escourt. What do you think about that Lina(Ani's mom)?"
"of course, it's perfect. As a matter of fact, my baby girl is not allowed to hang out on prom night alone, without an escourt, Lisa, your idea is superb. Baby, what do you think"
" I think I just lost my appetite", she said as she stood up from her seat and marched straight to her room turning deaf ears to the appologising voices trying to persuade her to come back to the dining.
"I don't like you making decisions for her, she's a grown lady Lina", Mr. Stevens spoke for the first time since their meal. Afterwards, Mr. Stevens along side Mr. Denison went to the garden to have their men's time. Bryan left for Ani's room, while the women remained at the dining.

knock knock,
"Go away please"
"come on Ani, please hear me out"
"no. I don't want to, just leave"
"okay, just ten minutes please"
"the door is open"
"Thanks", he said once he was inside.
"why did you have to tell your mom to do that?"
"no Ani, I promise I didn't tell her"
"Say what you have to say. You said ten minutes. It's ticking".
"Ani, I want you to be my date for the prom night, I swear to you, after that I won't ask you for anything you can't offer. I promise".
"is that all you have to say?"
"yes Ani. Please"
"okay, prom night and that's it"
"Yes!!! Thank you very much Ani", he said giving her a tight hug.
"I can't breathe Bryan" she said almost through her nostril.
Bryan went home feeling on top of the world. To the rest of the world it may sound foolish but being able to persuade Ani to be his date for one night was listed as one of his greatest achievements. He looked forward to prom night with such vibe unknown to him because Ani, the girl turned down every single guy that came up to her just accepted him.That was worth the joy.
