Tipping of the Scale

Tye went on with life as usual but it was hard, but at least he knew he had tried, and he was proud of himself for standing his ground. He had wished that Ansley would have listened and dropped Garret like a bad habit right then and there, but she hadn’t. But he said his piece, so he knew it was of no fault of his own. Trent and some of his friends had decided to go camping up at the lake that weekend and invited Tye and some of his friends. Tye decided “what the hell, he would go, he didn’t have anything better to do”. And he hadn’t ever had Trent invite him to do anything before. Part of him wondered if their mother had guilted Trent into inviting him. But he wouldn’t push his luck. Later that night they all sat around a fire and shared stories and talked about future plans. He was shocked to see that Trent was actually not that bad in real life. He wished he had seen that side of him sooner, maybe they would have been closer. The weekend went by fast and it was time to head home before they knew it, but they all agreed that they would do it again soon. They had all had a great time and everybody seemed to genuinely like each other. They all got along the entire weekend.                 So, Tye returned to his day by day approach and tried to meet up with his friends as he could to try to keep his sanity. They truly had been his saving grace lately and he was immensely thankful each and everyone of them. Before Tye knew it, he was at the end of the semester. It had been over 6 months since he found Ansley and recognized her as his mate. He had been able to reassemble parts of his life, but it was still hard, and he still thought of her all the time. He still felt a deep connection to Ansley and the intense pain that he had from not being with her. It hadn’t gotten any easier. He wondered if it was the same for Ansley. Everyone had told him that she must be because that was how the connection between mates worked. What one felt the other generally felt, and if they both felt the same emotion it would extremely intense between then because each would have their own feelings, and then that of their mates on top of their own. Tye supposed that explained why it felt like more than his grief he had been dealing with. Sometimes it was all he could handle. It almost drove him insane at times.                 The days that he hung out with his friends or has school were much easier than days he didn’t. He needed a constant distraction. It was the only thing that helped reduce the pain at all, but it didn’t take it away. Nothing ever took it away. He had been left to his own devices all day and it had been an incredibly long and growling day because of it. He decided to take a hot shower and head to bed early. He figured if he had to be in his own company, he would spend it sleeping in order to numb his pain at least for a little while. Tye had been asleep for a few hours when his phone chimed letting him know he had a text message. He ignored it and tried to sleep but it kept flashing and making a dinging sound every few minutes so he reluctantly drug himself out of the bed and walked to his dresser where his phone was on charge to clear the message and then he would go back to bed. But just as he was about to pick the phone up it stared to ring. It was a number that he didn’t recognize. He wondered who the hell would be calling him after 1 am. He wondered if it was someone drunk dialing, or worse a pocket dial that no one would respond to once he did answer. He answered the phone and tried to talk in a quiet tone to not wake anyone else in the house up. Since they all had sensitive hearing it was easy to disturb them. Tye went through the living room and out the front door onto the porch to keep from waking anyone in the house up. When he answered it was quiet for a few minutes and he almost hung up but then he heard someone on the other end say his name, and she was crying. It was Ansley, his Ansley, and she was crying. He felt a deep ache in his chest for her and he could pick up on her feelings as well. But he couldn’t really make out the true emotion because there were several. It was a slew of mixed emotions. After she said his name he said “Ansley, what wrong where are you? I will come to you”. That was what he wanted more than anything. He needed to get to her. He needed to help her, no matter what it was. He wouldn’t let her hurt like that if he could help it. If he could change it in anyway, he would. Before she ever got another word out, he was across the yard and in his car. He had it started and was backing down the driveway and pulled out on to the road. Thankfully he was headed in the right direction to get to her. His father had told him finding your mate was easy, like nothing else. He would just be drawn to her, and he was.                 When Tye got to Ansley almost an hour had passed. But he felt relief when he saw her, and his heart felt like it skipped a beat when he saw her brilliant smile. Ansley explained everything to Tye. He had been right about Garret. They had gone to a party that Garret had insisted they go to, even though Ansley never wanted to go. Garret had been adamant that he was going to the party. She had supposed that it was because he had planned on hooking up with the Brighten twins before they had even gotten there. Shortly after getting there he had sent her off with some of his friend’s girlfriends and took off as usual. He did this to her all the time, so she assumed that this was not the first time this had happened. But unlike other times Ansley decided to go find him and see if he was willing to leave early. But when she found him, he was in bed with the twins. Tye told her he was sorry, but once again Ansley cut him off with a wave of her hand and told him that she should have listened to him before. And then she went on to say that she should have acted on her instinct the day she saw him and knew he was her mate. She never should have worried about hurting Trent because he damn sure wasn’t worried about hurting her.  But her emotions were telling Tye that she was more irritated that she has sacrificed to save garret’s feelings when he wasn’t even worthy of the gesture. She told Tye she was so sorry for putting him through all of that and she knew she didn’t deserve his forgiveness, but she hoped over time they could get through it. This time it was Tye’s turn to wave her off. He explained that there was nothing to forgive. Besides he knew she was genuine in what she expressed because he could feel it too. He was just glad to be past that. She agreed and they spent the rest of the night just talking and getting to know all about each other. Before the sun came up Tye dropped Ansley off at her house and this time she gave him her cell phone number and they planned to meet up that coming weekend. The guys had been right her house was a ways out but it could have been on the other side of the planet and Tye would get to her. There would be nothing that would ever stop him again. She kissed him on the cheek before she ran into the house and Tye pulled out of the driveway, with a massive smile on his face. When he got back home, he thought that he would go to sleep for a few hours since he had been up all night. He was exhausted but it was worth it. It was the best night he had in so long. And the steady ache that he had in his chest for the last 6 months was gone and replaced by a light and happy feeling. It was a welcome replacement. That feeling grew when he checked his phone and saw that Ansley had texted him and poured his heart out about how much she cared about him and ended it with a kissy face emoji. Tye fell asleep with a smile on his face and for the first time in about 6 months he was looking forward to his future.
