I was dumbfounded. The truth hurts.
I went to tell Ella, but she confirmed that she knew that it was Mia who attacked her.
I went into my room and locked the door behind me, knowing Ella would come after me.
"It was a silly fight. She pushed me, and I hit my head on the wall." She said while knocking at my door. I could hear her shouting at Mia for telling me the truth. I felt the urge to go out and push them out of my house. I opened the door and told them to go because my mom wouldn't like to meet them quarrelling.
"Olivia, she pleaded with me not to let you know what happened. She promised to stay away from you if I agreed." She said plaintively.
Her words didn't make much difference at that moment. All I could focus on was the fact that they were good friends behind my back.
I went back to my room without saying another word to them. I sat down, thinking that I wasn't good enough for either Ella or Mia because they both lied to me. Ella's lies ran deeper.
I lay on my bed, staring at nothing. I knew I wouldn't be able to stay angry for long. I knew I would listen to Ella's explanation the next day. I knew that I still wanted her as a friend. I didn't care about Mia, but I didn't want my friendship with Ella to end.
The thought of what happened clouded my mind as I prepared for school. I had left my house when I saw Ella coming towards me. I deliberately waited for her as I walked slowly.
"I'm sorry I didn't tell you that it was Mia all along. She saw me coming to your house after you had chased her out of your house, and she picked a fight with me there. It was an accident, that's why I didn't tell you anything. She pleaded with me not to tell you what happened, she said that you wouldn't forgive her if you knew. She also said that she would stay away from you. I was the fool for believing her. When you told me that she ran after you, I threatened to tell you everything, even though I wasn't going to. Then she turned the table around, saying that you wouldn't forgive me for lying to you." She said with disgust.
"I forgive you, let's give Mia some space. She's toxic. You were merely her victim." I was only angry with Mia because we were friends before Ella came into the picture, and shockingly, I expected her to act better.
"Alright, let's get to school," I said with a hint of a smile.
"Are we going to find your friend? I told Pascal, and he was excited upon hearing it." She said cringingly.
"Why do you sound cringey? I can literally feel secondhand cringe even though I wasn't there when he said it." I said playfully.
"Yeah, right. It isn't cringe. He just likes to explore," She said in an explanatory way.
"Okay, I was just joking. We aren't going anywhere. My friend Jessie has been found. She was seen in the church, and she mentioned that her mom was buried nearby because her mom was a church worker or something. " I felt a twinge of sympathy remembering that her mom was dead. I couldn't wait to see Jessie that day to check if she was okay.
"I knew that you were just being paranoid. Pascal will think I lied to him. You have to go and tell him that we aren't going any longer." I didn't realise that Pascal was becoming an important figure in my life through Ella.
