To err

At dismissal, I decided to go and buy snacks. Rose suggested that she followed me, so we left together.

"I admire you a lot. You are the best friend Ella could ever ask for." She said.

"Thanks, why do you think so?" I loved receiving compliments, but also knew the reason behind them.

"Your aura, you are pretty, and you are smart." She said.

"I'm flattered, I really do appreciate that." Rose was petty, amiable, and a ray of sunshine. I admired that about her, but I didn't let her know. I was self-absorbed.

We returned to my class and called Ella and Pascal so we could leave together.

I believed that Ella and Pascal had romantic feelings towards each other because of how close they seemed. I didn't want that because I had a crush on Pascal. I was low-key jealous. But I also didn't want Ella to have a boyfriend because he would come between us.

I arrived home and said goodbye to them. Before they left, Pascal came and asked me if he could visit me, and I agreed. He smiled oddly and left. I didn't know why he wanted to visit, but I knew I had to tell Ella to join him whenever he decided to come because I wasn't comfortable around him.

I also didn't want to betray Ella, whom I believed liked Pascal.

Ella visited me later that day. I knew it was high time I visited her too.

I told her about Pascal, but she didn't show any interest in what I was saying.

"You like Pascal, right? I said.

"Pascal is my pal. I like him only as a friend," She said.

"Okay," I didn't believe what she said, and I decided not to be involved with Pascal romantically.

My mom entered my room and told me that Mia and Emma had come to see me. I went outside, eager to see them. That was the first day that only Mia and Emma were seen together. Ella followed me downstairs to 'protect me from Mia'. She saw Mia as the devil himself.

"Hey, it's good to see you two together," I said.

"Yes, I didn't imagine that it was ever possible. We are actually here to stay with you guys." Emma said deplorably.

"Mia wants to stay with you too," Ella said.

"Sure, I can't chase you guys away," I said as I let them in.

"You guys come to my house like there's something special in it. I'm just kidding, though. let's watch a movie, nice, right?" I said excitedly.

"Cool, anime, please," Emma added.

While we were watching the movie, we heard a noise from outside. I went to check where the noise was coming from, and I saw Zoe arguing with Jessie.

"Jessie, where did you go? You weren't in school today." I said. I was genuinely worried about Jessie. I had thought that Zoe attacked her.

"I was sick; Zoe told me that I had to see you because you were looking for me." She said.

"Yes, I did, but we will discuss that later. We will discuss everything later, but why were you guys quarrelling? I said.

"We weren't quarrelling. I was telling her to go inside and see you because you wanted to see her. I found her in the church. I found her in the church. Nobody knew she was there. Her dad was worried about her." Zoe added.

"OK then, good to see that you are okay," I said.

"Thank you. See you tomorrow," She said.

I knew I had to speak with Jessie the next day. She didn't look fine to me.

We watched the movie till dark. When they were about to leave, Mia came to me and apologised and promised to be a better friend and a better person.

"Are you trying to say that you were the one who attacked Ella?" I said.

"Yes, I was the one." She said.

"Mistakenly!" She shouted behind me.
