"I just wanted to say I'm sorry, I miss you. It's meant to be me leaving your house, not Ella. Can we fix things and become close friends again?" I didn't know what was going on in her mind. Why did she follow me to apologise?
"You should have waited till tomorrow to tell me that. I have to go home, we can talk tomorrow." I left her there because she acted creepily.
I texted Ella and told her what had happened with Mia. She was happy with what I did and was incredibly encouraging, urging me to keep it up.
I prepared for school the next day. I was eager to meet Jessie just to make sure that she was okay. Jessie was a hypocrite and a people pleaser. Whatever she did was for validation from people. It was evident. I couldn't help but wonder why she failed to follow through.
At school, I decided to see Emma before going to my class. I entered her class and saw Mia, who ignored me. I couldn't care less.
"Emma, how are you doing?" I couldn't stop smiling. I smiled a lot. People liked me for that, but I tried to limit it to avoid insults. The boys thought I was only blushing for them.
"I'm okay, how's Ella?"
"Speaking of Ella, did the police officers visit you? " I said.
"They did. They asked me a few questions, and that was it. They didn't visit again. Have they seen the attacker?" She said.
"They actually ended the investigation. They said it was possibly a prank on Ella. Do you believe that it was a prank?" I said.
"Yes, I mean she was attacked in broad daylight, in front of your house. It was possibly just a prank." She said doubtfully.
"It could possibly be a prank with malicious intent," I murmured.
"Any problem? Don't you believe it's just a reckless prank? She said.
"I think that it was just a prank. Bye, see you later. Be attentive." I said jokingly.
I was about to enter my class when Zoe came to me and asked if I had seen Jessie.
"No, why are you asking?" She didn't reply and left in a hurry.
I anticipated Zoe's arrival but didn't see either Jessie or Zoe. I knew that something was wrong, but I didn't know what it was.
Ella came to my class later that day with her classmates, Pascal and Rose. Ella introduced them to me.
"Hi," She said. I was not happy that Ella brought her friends along. I wasn't only shy, I was jealous. I felt jealousy all over me, but I had requested it.
"How are you?" He said. I didn't get to reply before Rose added, "You are so cute. Ella talks about you a lot."
"Thank you," I said. I was uncomfortable, so I left the classroom.
"What happened?" Ella, who followed me outside, enquired.
"I'm just worried about my classmate, Jessie, my friend. I think she's disappeared." I said.
"How do you know that?" She said.
"She wasn't in class."
"You are hilarious. She's probably sick or just decided to skip class."
"You are making fun of me? You do like to make fun of people. If she doesn't come tomorrow, will you help me find her?" I said impulsively.
"Just both of us?"
"Are you in?" I actually wanted her to refuse. I never wanted to say what I had said.
"Pascal will go with us. He's a boy."
"No, he can't. Why do you want him to go with us?"
"He would love to join us." I had to agree because I had no reason to refuse.
"Why him, though? What of Rose?"
"I wasn't making fun of you." She said and went into the classroom. I went back to my class and stayed with Ella and her friends till dismissal.
