CHAPTER ONE
My rusty old alarm rang so furiously that I had to force myself to wake up, still feeling sleepy. Even though knew I had to get up from bed, my eyes wouldn't still let me and I laid down back in bed. ' just five minutes more ', I told myself, smiling lazily as I slept off.
" Hey sleepyhead, ain't you gonna get up from that bed or do you want to get beaten this early morning? ", Diana, my best friend jumped on me and I groaned in frustration.
" Get off me, you annoying nincompoop ", I cursed as I pushed her off me.
"Tsk-tsk ............. you curse a lot, Sydney Gold. What type of mate would accept a lady who swears and curses a lot?", she shook her head and I shrugged.
"My mate is probably an Omega like me so what's the stress?".
"You're so pessimistic, why can't you just hope he's a Gamma, Beta or even an Alpha? I'm telling you, you're too pretty to be mated to an Omega"
"In case you've forgotten, I've been an Omega since I was a kid, it's just normal for me to also be mated to an Omega besides, which werewolf of a high rank will want an Omega as a mate?", I pressed further. I was an argumentative type and Diana knew better than to step on my vibes this morning for I was so ready to argue with her.
"I'm not gonna argue with you this morning", she finally gave up. " I just can't wait to turn eighteen next week and become Beta Charles' mate", she giggled and I scoffed, rolling my eyes. My best friend had been having this sort of confidence that she was going to be mated to the Beta and I couldn't help but root for her.
"Keep in dreaming, lover b***h", I snapped her out to reality and went into the bathroom to go freshen up.
I got into the bathroom and began to undress as I heard Diana go out of my small shabby room. I looked at my body using the bathroom mirror, sighing in frustration as I did. My hair was black with stands of gold.
I do get bullied because of my hair since most of the females in the pack house don't like my hair as a result of jealousy but that wasn't my doing was it??
I was also often asked where my real parents were, if they were of a high rank or something like that but I did give them a negative reply.
Even the Elders of the pack did wonder how my hair was double-coloured, they didn't know but I did. I knew who I was, I knew I was someone who wasn't supposed to be in existence, someone who parents do use as a folktale to scare their little kids, someone who was considered a myth, someone whose wolf's colour was black with stripes of gold at both sides, just as my name implied, 'SYDNEY GOLD'. That was why I named my wolf 'Gold'. Even my eye color was a faded gold while Gold's eye color was pure gold that shined in the dark.
To the pack members, I didn't have a wolf yet as I told them. I was said to be a werewolf which hadn't shifted yet at the age of seventeen since I have never released my wolf. I couldn't since I didn't know how to explain why my wolf's body color was a color that had never been seen before.
I looked further down my body and I saw my tattoo on my side waist, a large drawing of a bright star. It was a tattoo I've had since birth. Though, I didn't know the meaning of the tattoo, I knew that the drawing explained who I was to the werewolf world, someone who was going to be killed if her existence was made known to the world but who was going to save the werewolf species if she escaped being killed.
Apart from the tattoo on my waist, the marks on my body were gotten from beatings I received. A single tear dropped down from my eyes and I wiped it as I remembered the day my pack was attacked and my mother and sister were killed. Though their deaths was for good, it still pained me that they were no more.
I quickly took my bathe to avoid being beaten and I ran downstairs, into the kitchen to join Diana in preparing food for the pack members.
Exactly six am, the pack members began to come inside the dining hall one after the other and Diana excused herself to go serve the food.
"Can I get a glass cup of water, Miss Sydney?", a young, beautiful girl asked and I poured her a glass cup of water, smiling softly at her.
"I think it will be of a great advantage for you to come serve at the dining hall rather than waste your time with a little girl", Samantha, the Delta of the pack, snapped and I stood up straight. I didn't even hear her come into the kitchen since I was so mesmerized by the young girl
I bowed my head in apology without saying anything and I went out of the kitchen but she dragged my hair back and pushed me to her front.
"How dare you hit me?", she asked and my eyes widened.
' I did not even touch her! ', I exclaimed to Gold and she giggled.
' Have you forgotten that she's one of the people who are jealous of your hair? ', she teased and I rolled my eyes.
"Did you just roll your eyes at me?", Samantha asked in disbelief and I quickly shook my head. I couldn't tell her that I was talking to my wolf as they all believed that I was wolfless.
"I........ it........ w......was a.......a mistake", I stuttered, trying to act scared. I was already aware of what she was going to do to me and I wasn't scared at all. She did what she knew best, in a matter of time, her palm collided with my face. Very hard that I tasted blood which healed very quickly.
Her eyes changed colours as she looked at me which meant that she was mindlinking. In a few minute, two guards appeared with a silver chain which they used to chain my wrists and dragged me out of the kitchen.
I looked at Diana as we stepped into the dining hall. She was shivering in fear just like the other pack members.
' Stupid wolfs ', Gold commented and I smirked inwardly. Why won't they be scared? I mean, she was dating the Alpha's son, James, after all. It was just a matter of one week for us to know our mates because one thing I was very sure of was that she wasn't the Alpha-to-be mate.
