I saw my friend, Jessica, sitting stark n***d beside the main road that leads to our house. She was angrily hitting the poor hen which she had held hostage, as she forcefully tried to feed the animal with sand."Chop this sand oh! I said chop it! Yes! Chop it and drink water! Sandra, chop am!" She beat the creature one more time, and laughed hysterically.A tear dropped down my cheek, as I paused to observe her.Yes, she was mad!I warned her but she didn't listen.Jessica took to the streets two weeks ago, after returning from a night party with some 'big' girls in town. She wasn't a bad girl from the onset. We were both fervently serving the Lord, but along the line, something happened. We had both witnessed many of our mates' weddings.I was engaged, but Jessica didn't have a man in her life yet.On many occasions, we had prayed together over the issue, and God had assured us, that he was going to give her a genuine son of his, and asked her not to worry. For a while, she was patient, and kept working on herself and personal development whilst she was single, until one fateful day.She called me, and told me she was tired. She couldn't hold on to God or his promises any longer. She decided to assume control over her destiny, since God was taking too long.I disuaded her from plying the path she had decided to, but she was adamant. My constant pleas which she heard on a daily basis, were like disturbances to her. Finally, my friend joined the league of 'Babes with the sauce', and being a very pretty lady, she was quickly accepted. In a few weeks, she had already started hooking up with sugar daddies, younger boys, middle aged guys, and the likes. She was desperate for marriage and was willing to go any length to get it.I watched, cried, prayed for, and advised her, but there were no changes. Her mind was made up.Two months ago, Jessica was declared missing. It was after one of her usual late night outings with men.Everything felt wrong, and we knew all was not well.We searched everywhere for her, and did the needful, hopefully awaiting her return. She was missing for about two days, and on the third day, we saw her. However, she wasn't without changes. She was already half n***d, and was completely out of her mind.I wept sore, on seeing her.Her family was distressed, and overwhelmed with sorrow and sadness. They managed to keep her bound only for a short while, as she finally broke loose and launched into the streets. As I passed by that day, my heart was heavy with sorrow for my dear friend.I promised myself, that I was going to be patient, and stick to God no matter what, and allow him finish the good works he has started in my life.I also observed, that the race is not to the swift, neither is it of him that willeth or runneth, but of God that showeth mercy."Father, please show me mercy!" I prayed, for I realized that only the mercy of God could sustain an individual till the end.©️ Rejoice James Jev
