Chapter nine - Opening party

2096 Words
Ashley's POV: I finally gave him the note. It wasn't the best way possible, but I did it. The question is about what can happen next. Part of me wants him to find out who sent it. The other is scared because I won't be what he expected. I don't think he has a girlfriend, but you never know. Since I haven't been in trouble, he might be single. I have other things to worry about. I heard there is an opening party for the first-graders. They call it like that to welcome the new students. I don't know if I will go. Usually, I don't do anything there. This might give me ideas for a story. It's not like I post them somewhere. I don't think someone will read them. I might have luck. First, I need to try. Emma will go to the party. I can go with her. The good thing is that I won't be alone. I can meet someone. Honestly, no one can compare with the guy I saw. I keep seeing him around. Well, I try to hide most of the time. It's better if he doesn't know about me. I talked with him only twice, and I didn't say anything. If you saw the way he looked, you would've understood me. I know he won't be at the party. He looks older than me. I'm not saying it because he is tall. If I could have this for myself, I would never let it go. I hope that I'll stop with the fantasies about him. It's party time. There is one minor problem. I don't know anything about university parties. I'm sure they are different than the high school ones. This is what I hope. My only problem is my ex-best friend and her boyfriend. Both of them will be there. I don't want to see them, but I don't have a choice. I won't miss it because of that. I won't let someone ruin my night. I will make new friends and have fun like I used to do. If only I could believe myself. It sounds so easy, but it's not. I have classes today. Currently, I am presenting my favorite book. Well, of them. I don't think I have only one. I have read too much. All I have to do is to say why I like it and talk more about how it's written. I'm trying to sound more educated, but it's not working. I don't have the words to say it. I heard something about mentors. I will ask the teacher what is that and if it can help me. I want to improve myself and be better. With practice, this will happen. I need a lot of training. - I think it's best to finish today's lecture here. I have already filled your head with a lot of information. Don't forget about the next week's task. I will check who has done it. This time, I want it on paper. You will forget how to write from so much typing. We didn't even think this was possible when I was your age. - How long should it be? - Emma asked - At least one page. There are no maximum pages. - Thanks. - If you have any questions, now is the time. - I have one, but it's not for the subject. - I said - You can ask. Hopefully, I can answer you. - I heard something about a mentor. Can you tell me what that is? - A mentor is a student from your career, usually a third or a fourth-grader, who helps you study. You can ask them about anything. Their job is to help you with your lessons and assignments. - How can we get one? - You can ask Linda at the reception. Not every student will be a mentor. You have to check if someone is available. Each mentor has only one student. We do this so they can focus entirely on this student. - I see. Thanks. - I think someone might be available, but you have to check. One of my best students is a mentor, but he might be taken. Many people want to work with him. - I wonder why. - He has specific methods, and we can immediately recognize who has worked with him. - Then he better be available. - I said, and he laughed - Maybe he is. - If we don't like our mentor, can we change it? - Only if someone else is free. If it's only one person, you won't have one. - I understand. - Here is another thing. You can always quit if you think your mentor has helped you enough. - I don't need to stay with my mentor until the rest of the year. - No. If you don't have other questions, you can go. Ashley, you can go and check for your question. - I will. Thanks, mister Patterson. I went to check the available mentors. I don't need help with every class, but I started struggling. There was only one person available. His name was Ethan James. I have no idea who he is, but we'll meet on Monday. The rest of the afternoon, I was with Emma. We talked a little bit before we went to the party. I barely know people here. There were students from my classes, but we haven't spoken. It's my chance to do it. - Let's go for food. I'm hungry. - Emma said - You can go. I don't want to eat right now. - Well, well, well. How are you my best friend? - Melanie asked - I'm fine. - Hello, ladies. - Hey, Ryan. - Why are you here all alone? Oh, yes. You don't have friends. Also, you are single. - she said and laughed - At least you have a good-looking boyfriend. - If you call yourself good-looking, I don't know what to say about mine. - I said and realized what I just did - You have a boyfriend? I don't believe it. - Melanie said - The problem is not mine. - Then call him here. I want to see him. - You can go and have fun until I bring him here. - I'm waiting. - she said, and they left - What happened? - I f*cked up. - Don't tell. I'm sure you don't have a boyfriend. - No, I don't. - Then what will you do? - I'll ask someone to pretend to be my boyfriend for a few hours. - Good luck with that. - If I tell her the truth, she will call me out until the rest of the year. - That sucks. Why does she care so much? - She is a b*tch. That explains a lot. - Do you need help? - No, go and have fun. I'll deal with this alone. I asked a few guys if they wanted to do this. No one agreed. I didn't think it would be that hard. Well, I'm not that attractive. Maybe I deserve it. I looked around when I saw him. What is a guy like him doing at such a party? Anyway. I don't have time for him. I have to find a solution to my problem. In the next ten minutes, I got cut off five times. That's it. I sat down, tired. I have to tell the truth. It's the last thing I want to do. - Hello, bumping girl. - Hey. It's you. - Yes. Why is the head down? - I made a mess. I tried to fix it, but it didn't work. - What happened? - Do you see the boy and the girl over there? - Yes, what about them? - She is my ex-best friend. I used to like her boyfriend in high school, and she knew about this. She asked him out behind my back. - I'm sorry. - This opened my eyes. He is a b*stard. - I said, and he laughed - What is the mess? - I told her my boyfriend looks better than hers. - I assume you don't have one. - Nope. I asked at least fifteen boys. All of them cut me off. Who knew that finding a fake boyfriend was that hard? - You didn't ask me. - What? - I can help you with that. - You will? Why? - Because I have nothing else to do. - No offense, but why are you here? This is for first-graders. - The boy over there is my best friend's little brother. He had a dark history from the last party and was worried that something might happen again, so I offered to come and take care of it. - That's nice. - Do I need to know something about you as your fake boyfriend? - Are you sure about this? - It's for a few hours. - Then, no. You only need to show up so I can shut her mouth. - This won't be believable. We need something more. - Like what? - What do couples do? Kiss. - What? - Don't worry. It will be a fake one. No feelings. - I don't know. - I don't bite. I didn't say anything. A hot guy wants to kiss me. How can I say no? I'll never have another chance. I don't even know why he is helping me. I didn't ask him. I would've never done that. No one will believe a guy like him can be with someone like me. I was thinking about this when he made me look at him. That was a mistake. Before I realized what was happening, his lips met mine. I have dreamed about this since the moment we met. Well, I never thought it would be this way. If this is without feelings, I wonder what will be with them. I won't be the one who finds out. - No feelings, huh? - I asked, and he laughed - I always keep my promise. Kind of. - That was the fakest sketch ever. - Melanie said - Let me think. The last time I had to prove my relationship was. Oh, I never did. - he said - Watch out for tomorrow. It will be everywhere. - she said and laughed - Can you leave us alone? I don't want anyone to bother us. - he said and pulled me close so I could feel his breath - Bye, loser. - That thing was your best friend? - he asked - Don't say anything. It's in the past. - Now, I feel bad for you. - Thank you for the help. You can go and do something else. - If you don't mind, I want to stay here. - Why? Don't you have something better to do? - I'm here like an undercover babysitter. I have nothing better to do. - If you say so. - You need better friends. - I already have one. That's it for now. - The university has a lot of students. I'm sure you can find more. - he said and kissed the top of my head - You can stop with this. She didn't believe it. - Why? I like it. - What? - Let me entertain myself for one night. - Is this the only way to do it? - If it's bothering you, I will leave. - No, no. I thought you might want to do something funnier. - No, I'm good. I'm happy with the current situation. - Well, me too. - As people say. So far, so good. - True. - Where is your friend? - There. I let her have fun while I fixed my mess. I could've pulled away from his arms, but I didn't. I know it's fake, but it feels so good. It's the first time when I feel like that around someone. I don't know what is going on, but I like it. He is the dream of every girl. The good thing is that he is single. If he hadn't, he would've never done this for me. Honestly, I don't mind. He might have stolen my first kiss, but I don't care. Look at him. It's like he came straight out of a magazine. Sadly, I have zero chances with him. It's impossible. I have no idea why he agreed to do this, but it won't happen again. I hope that I can get calmer around him.
