Chapter 6

Of course when I got back to April’s I had to let her know everything that had happened. She seemed about as confused with the situation as I was, but far more gitty. All of this has done nothing but make my head hurt more. I told A I’d talk to her later and headed back home. The house was silent, just what I needed, Aunt Nic still wasn’t back from her shift yet or maybe she’s already gone back. Emergency room nursing hours are a bit unconventional. I dropped my things onto my bedroom floor before flopping down on my bed. I laid there for what felt like hours, but truly only a couple minutes. Oh, forget this. I threw my hands in the air and decided to go for a run. I have got to clear my head. I was already a good two miles or so into my run. I had sweat dripping down my face and down my back. Breaking a sweat always seemed to help me with any stress I was having. It didn’t take long for the stress to slowly melt away. My pace slowed as I began to approach a bridge. It wasn’t the same bridge that our accident was on, but no matter what the memories would come flooding back. The icy water started to fill the cab of the vehicle at an alarming right. I braced myself against the back of my mother’s seat to keep from hitting my head again when our car plunged from the bridge. My scream caught in my throat, nothing coming out. I tried undoing my seatbelt but it was jammed. No matter how hard I tried, it wasn’t coming undone. I reach for my parents motionless bodies. I shook them as hard as I could, but I knew within that moment they were both gone. The water pushed quickly past their heads and getting closer to mine. I didn’t know what to expect, but I prepared myself for death. I prayed to take me with my parents and to not suffer in the drowning process. I took my final deep breath as the water rose above my head. It was silent and calm before the darkness overtook me. “Miss, are you alright?” A gentleman’s voice brought me back to the present. A tear had fallen to my cheek from my memory. He must have been out running as well. He took a step toward me, taking a deep breath. “Yes, I’m fine. Thank you.” I responded, something about this guy seems off. The more that I looked over his appearance the less he seemed like he was out running. His clothing was far too casual, no one goes out running in jeans. His eyes never moved away from me, it felt like he was boring them into mine. Then, for a moment, he looked as if his eyes were glazed over. I took the brief moment to quickly excuse myself and run the opposite direction back towards my house. I could hear a thundering sound behind me and I could swear there was a howl. What on earth is that? I couldn’t bring myself to turn around and look. I quickened my pace, I was now running at a full sprint. I rounded the corner of the street, in hopes that I was out of sight range from that guy. I never felt so uneasy by someone before. He truly made chills go down my spine. I could hear the thundering sound now getting closer to me. I decided this time to turn and see what could possibly be make such a noise. My eyes grew wider as I saw a larger than life black wolf running towards me. His mouth open, showing the protruding canine teeth as his jaws snap together with great force. I was frozen where I stood, unable to move from the horror in front of me as car came flying up next to me. “Cecily, get in!” It was Liam. How in the hell was he here? I’ll ask him that later. My pause caused him to yell out to me again, “Cecily!” I flung the passenger door open and dove inside just as the large black wolf jumped in front of us. A scream escaped from my lips as Liam threw it into reverse and flew down the road. Quickly turning the vehicle in all different directions to lose the wolf following us. “What on earth is that thing? How did you know where I was?” I was practically yelling at him. “Are you hurt?” He asked, barely glancing off of the road. “I think I’m ok.” I gave myself a look over. I know that physically I wasn’t hurt, but my mind was having difficulty. “Liam, do you know what is going on?” “I need to get you to my dad. He can explain.” I just nodded my head. He reached over to grab my hand, I’m sure guessing that I was verge of losing it. We weaved in and out of the heavily wooded roads, until we reached a 10 foot tall iron gate. My jaw dropped to the floor. Liam quickly waves to the guard that came out from the guardhouse to see who had pulled up. He gave a simple wave back as the gate opens. Liam wasted no time in flying down the driveway to an incredible house. It must have been four stories, the biggest house I’ve ever seen. He ran around the car to grab my hand and help me out, I hadn’t even noticed he had stopped the car. “Let’s get you inside.” He quickly moved me towards this incredible, large wooden door. It wasn’t until we got into the house and the door closed behind me, that I let out a breath that I didn’t realize I was holding. The entry is beautiful. A grand double staircase curves down either wall to meet a marble floor. The walls were a smoky grey that made the space feel more intimate than it was. This is Liam’s home? I hesitated for a minute to move my feet. The adrenaline was starting to ware off and I could feel those overwhelming emotions starting to sink in. “Hey, everything is going to be ok.” Liam pulled me close to him, wrapping his arms around me. I placed my head down on his chest as he rubbed circles on my back. His touch calms me so much. He pulled back away from me and offered a reassuring smile. “His office is this way.” He said, while pointing and taking my hand to lead me down the hall. I couldn’t help but wonder what his parents did for a living. Maybe a lawyer or a CEO of a company in the city perhaps. Liam knocked on the door to our right, before opening it and taking me inside with him. “Hey son, what can I help you with?” Liam’s father said before looking up to notice I was standing next to his son. “And who do we have here?” Liam’s father had gotten to his feet, when I noticed he has the same kind emerald eyes as his son. I was able to find a level of calmness in them, given everything that had just happened. “This is Cecily Fallon.” His father’s eyes quickly snapped back over to Liam. “Dad, she was attacked this afternoon.” His dad sat back down into his chair. A deep breath escaped his mouth as he brought hands up to rub across his face. “They’ve found her.” His voice so low, I almost missed it.
