Chapter 7

1337 Words
This wasn’t exactly how I thought it would go with meeting Liam’s dad. “Found who? Me?!” I was starting to get worked up with the snowball affect this day was becoming. “Can someone please tell me what is going on?” “How about you both have a seat,” he gestured to the two leather chairs in front of his desk. “We have a lot to discuss.” Just then an older lady, probably in her 70s, came in carrying a tray that was holding a teapot and cups with dishes for cream and sugar. Her smile stretching from ear to ear as she set the tray on the little table between our chairs. “Thanks Gran.” Liam said, offering the lady a smile as she hugged his neck. “I thought you might need some tea.” She said as she made her way over to the other chair closer to Liam’s dad. She had four tea cups on the tray waiting for each one of us. How did she know we, or at least I, were here. “Let’s get to it then,” Liam’s dad’s voice was serious. “Cecily, how much do you remember before the accident.” “Very little, but they said.” My eyebrows furrowed, I haven’t mentioned any accident to Liam, so how could his dad know? “Wait, how do you know about the accident?” “We will get to that. What do you remember?” He asked again kindly. Liam reached for my hand to offer reassurance. I just shook my head, knowing I was going to have to trust him. “Honestly, I remember the accident well, but not much before it. It’s mostly little pieces that get triggered randomly in my mind.” My eyes dropped. It really used to bother me, but now I’ve just excepted I won’t remember much before the accident. “The doctors always said it was normal, with me hitting my head and the extreme level of the trauma. It wasn’t unheard of for my mind to suppress the memories.” He nodded his head with my response, like he expected that answer. Now I was judging my own memory. Should I be remembering more? Should I not have this block on my mind? “Cecily,” he pause for a moment, looking as though he was collecting his own thoughts, “there’s a man named Keogh and he’s the one that had your parents killed.” I gave him a very confused look. They weren’t killed by someone, we were in an accident and they didn’t survive it. I couldn’t stop from shaking my head side to side. That just didn’t make sense to me. Why would someone want to kill my parents? My mom was a teacher and my dad worked for a law firm in the city as a defense attorny. Maybe this guy was someone that my dad was defending someone against them? “Why would you think that someone killed them?” I looked between him and Liam. Liam looked back at me with a tight pulled smile. “I know that it doesn’t seem possible, Cecily, but my dad truly knows this for fact.” “And how is that?” He sat back a bit with me snapping at him. I didn’t mean for it to sound so harsh coming from my lips. Mr. Moran straightened back against his large dark brown leather office chair. “I was there the night of your accident. We had gotten word that it was going to happen, so we were trying to beat them to you all.” His eyes simply went past my gaze. He was no longer just talking to me. I knew that look; he was reliving it. “We were on our way to your house, when we came across your crashed car teetering over the edge of the bridge. We got out of our vehicle to get the three of you out, but your car when over and into the water below you all.” His voice catching for a second. Liam’s Gran reached over to give him a comforting pat on his shoulder. We could all tell that him reliving this memory was just as painful for him as it was for me. He gave her a reassuring pat back on her hand. “I’m good, mom.” His eyes then come back to mine. “I then jumped into the water to get you out of the car. I heard you scream as the car went down so I knew you were still alive. Unfortunately, when we had gotten your parents out, they had already perished.” I could no longer hold the tears back, they rolled down my cheeks without pause. He saved me? Mr. Moran was there and saved me? “Why?” It was the only word that I could bring myself to say, though so many questions were running through my head. “I was very good friends with your parents. Your father and I had gone to school together.” His deep voice echoed in my ears. What? He was friends with them? “After the accident, I offered your aunt a position at Andrew’s Memorial Hospital here in Woods Creek.” I’m sure the shock was clearly written all over my face. My head was really beginning to hurt. “I knew with her being your closest living relative that she would be the one to take care of you, and this way we could make sure Keogh couldn’t get to you. Until now, as far as we know, he believed you died in the accident with your parents.” “Do you mind if I get some fresh air?” I didn’t even give Mr. Moran an opportunity to answer. I was already on my feet, making my way towards his office door. I quickly looked from my right and then left when I saw two glass french doors leading to what looked to be a private garden. I practically ran for the doors and threw them open. I gasped as the fresh air hit my lungs. My hurried feet carried me to the farthest corner of the garden before collapsing to my knees. What on earth have I just learned? My parents accident wasn’t actually an accident. They were meant to be killed and apparently I was also meant to die. Again, the tears ran down my face. Just then, a strong pair of arms wrapped themselves around me. I tilted my head upward to see Liam. He was leaning his head down against mine before softly kissing the top of my head. I was instantly calmer. “I know that it’s a lot to take in.” He nearly whispered to me. “Did you know?” I had to ask him. I needed to know if maybe that was the reason why he was now giving me attention. “I know that you had come here because there was accident involving you and your parents, but that was the extent.” He began to rub his hands up and down the sides of my arms. I don’t know why, but this seems to send electric waves through me. I rest my head back against his chest and take a deep of his intoxicating scent. “I know that all that information my dad had just given you was a lot, but there’s something else that we really need to talk to you about.” He gave me the most amazing smile. I couldn’t help but smile back at him. I could only imagine what else it is that they need to talk to me about. I don’t know if I can handle it, at least not on my own. Just then I look back up at Liam and know that as long as I have him with me, I can handle anything.
