Walking into the school at the end of the week, I was already tired. I haven’t been sleeping great ever since my encounter with Liam. I haven’t been able to get him out of my head. Every time I head towards my locker or go between classes, I find myself looking for him. Only, I hadn’t seen him anywhere.
“Hey Cec,” April said, as she bumped her hip into mine. “Have you heard?”
“Heard what?” I laughed at her nearly jumping out of her skin to tell me.
“Garrett is having a party tonight,” She was practically jumping up and down. “And we’re going.”
“Oh, we are?” I asked, already knowing that A wasn’t going to have it any other way “Sounds like fun.”
I wonder if my aunt works tonight or not. I know that she isn’t a fan of parties, but I can always tell her I’m just saying at April’s house. April’s parents are never around anyway and they don’t care what she does either.
We start heading to our class, while A talks my ear off about going to her house and getting ready. A always has the better clothes for going to parties, for sure. My aunt won’t let me get anything that shows too much skin. Normally, it doesn’t bother me, but for a party it’s fun to go outside your comfort zone some.
The rest of the school day finished uneventfully, thank goodness, and my aunt works late tonight, so staying with April was no problem. I’m really looking forward to tonight. The party became the talk of the school by the end of the day, so anybody who’s anybody is going to be there.
April started throwing all sorts of clothing options onto her bed; skirts, dresses, shorty shorts, sequin tops. I laughed because she was trying to dress us like we were going to a club in the city.
“A, don’t you think these are a bit much?” I asked, as I held up a silver sequin mini skirt that would leave very little to the imagination. She gave me a look as if I was speaking a different language.
“Ok, ok. I’ll tone it down a notch.” She smirks as she goes back to her closet.
After trying on a few different things, I finally decided on a pair of black skinny jeans that have a few strategically placed holes. My top is a satin emerald green color and comes half way up my stomach with simple straps.
I pull my long blonde hair back into a high ponytail, to show off the crisscross detail on the back of my top. I went pretty simple for my makeup. A thin black eyeliner with matching mascara and a light lipgloss.
April went far more bold with her outfit; a hot pink sequin strapless dress. I could never be that daring with my outfit choice, I chuckle to myself. She is always willing to make a statement, that is why we work so well as best friends.
“It’s go time!” She squeals with delight. I shake my head at her as I grab my purse and head for the door.
By the time we had gotten to the party, it was in full swing. The music was streaming out of the house at an impressing amount of decibels. We walked into the house to see pretty much the entire senior class there.
April started dancing her way across the makeshift dance floor in the living room over to the kitchen, dragging me along with her. It was a nice house with tall ceilings, a large stone fireplace, that has become a stage for girls to dance on and dark wood floors. By morning, it will be trashed.
The kitchen counters were already covered with drinks and bottles. It looks as if someone had spilt a couple, probably trying to get an unneeded refill. April reached for a couple bottles and mixers before adding them into two cups in front of her. She turned with a rather pleased smile on her face and handed me one of the cups.
“Thanks A.” I said, taking the cup from her. The burn from the alcohol traveled all the way down my throat. Oh, tonight is going to be fun.
It didn’t take long for April and I to finish off a couple drinks, before making our way out towards the crowded living room to join in on dancing. Normally, I’m a bit more reserved, but the alcohol has given me that extra bit of courage.
Cody and Matt, both on the football team, come walking over to dance. I notice April is already dancing with Garrett, so I just decide to dance with both. Why not? I love to dance and having someone to dance with, makes it even more fun.
I start rolling my hips to the music as Cody works his way towards the front of me placing his hands upon them. Matt moves in behind me to begin swaying me back and forth against him.
Matt was almost a full foot taller than I was, making it where my back and head could rest on his chest. He wrapped his arms around me, pulling me closer to him. Cody didn’t seem to like the lack of attention that he was getting, so he pulled me forward by my swinging hips to bring me closer to him.
Before the music had stopped, they both stood straight up abruptly. Both of their hands dropped from my body and appeared almost ridged. I turned on my heels to see what could possibly have made them stop dancing, only to be met by Liam standing right behind me.
“May I cut in?” He said smiling down at me. He had the most breathtaking smile.
“You know, it’s not anything formal. Anyone can dance.” I said as I began to move my body again to the music.
He began to move his body against mine, “No, no one else is allowed to dance with you, but me.”
I furrowed my eyebrows at his statement. Why on earth would Liam Moran say such a possessive comment towards me? It didn’t make any sense to me.
He ran his hands down my arms, leaving that same static electricity feeling again. My mind erased any questioning thoughts from my head as to why and just enjoyed this moment with Liam. I reached my arms up over my head to the back of his neck, pulling him closer down to me. I didn’t know why but I wanted him closer. He was right up against me and it wasn’t close enough. Liam lowered his head down to my neck, pausing to take a few deep breaths. I really believed he was going to start kissing my neck, but he pulled away and continued to dance with me.
At the worse possible moment A’s drinks all came back to haunt me. I bolted away from Liam and towards the bathroom, making it just in time. The alcohol came back with a vengeance, burning just as badly coming up as it did going down, if not worse. Why did I let April talk me into this?
A subtle knock came at the door, thinking it was April, I told them to come in. To my horror, Liam walked in.
“Oh on.” I groaned, as I let my head fall back down to my arm, resting on the toilet seat. This was not how I wanted anyone to see me, let alone Liam.
“Are you ok?” Honest concern laced in his voice. He came over to sit right next to me and placed his hand on my back. It was incredibly comforting, especially when he started rubbing up and down. Was he this kind to everyone? It’s not like we have ever had classes together. I’m no more than a complete and total stranger that bumped into him one day.
“Yes, thank you.” I mumbled. I sat up, no longer feeling the urge to get sick. “I think April made my drinks too strong.” I should have known better than to let her make us drinks. She has a pretty heavy hand.
“Let’s get you outside for some fresh air.” Without warning he scooped me up into his arms. I started to squirm around, pushing against his chest to get him to put me down. I definitely wasn’t expecting this.
“What do you think you’re doing?” I almost yelled at him. He stopped for a second to look down at me.
“There you are.” April paused a moment as she rounded the corner to see Liam holding me in his arms. “Um, am I interrupting something?” Her eyes just captivated by the scene in front of her.
“No, nothing is going on.” I pushed against his chest one final time to get him to put me down. He didn’t seem pleased about it and after I was out of his arms, neither was I.
“I was just coming to see if you were good with heading out?” April almost looked reluctant to ask now.
“Yes, let’s go. I’m not feeling the greatest after all those drinks.” I walked towards her and did stumble just a step, but I really hoped Liam didn’t notice.
“Can I drive you ladies home?” Liam offered as he closed the distance between us again. I knew after both of us having quite a few drinks, either of us driving back to April’s was not a good idea.
April popped up with a quick response, “Yes, that would be great.” She plastered a large smile across her face. I just shake my head at her, I know what she’s up to.
We got into the backseat of Liam’s car and April quickly gave him directions to get to her house. Luckily, her house was only a couple blocks away so there wasn’t time for April’s millions of questions. I knew I wouldn’t get off the hook though.
Pulling up in front of April’s house, Liam quickly jumped out of his seat to open the back passenger door for me.
“I hope that you feel better. Good night, Cecily.” Hearing my name from his lips sent chills up my body. I didn’t even realized he knew what my name was. He leaned down and kissed my cheek before getting back into his car and driving off.
“Good night, Liam.” I mumbled to the darkness, before going inside.
