The next morning my head was swimming, in more ways than one. Not only was I a bit hungover, but Liam just leaves me baffled. I have really got to talk to him for more than just a few sentences and see why all of a sudden he is more focused on me.
“My head is going to explode.” April groaned, as she rolled over in the bed. I gave her an understanding smile and a bit of a giggle when seeing her makeup smeared across her face. I knew I must not look any better and my head was definitely ringing.
“Yeah, you need to go to bartending school. Those drinks were a bit intense.” I giggled and immediately regretted it, when my head started to pound.
“Well,” she said, opening her eyes to fully see me. “Someone was the talk of the party last night.”
“What are you talking about?” She instantly got my attention.
“First you were dancing with Matt and Cody, two total hotties. The other girls there were not happy that you took two partners.” She laughed to herself. “Then, Liam came in and saw you with them and let out a loud growl.”
“What? A growl?” I asked, how did I not hear that when he was right behind me?
“That’s what it sounded like to me.” A shrugged her shoulders looking like she was replaying the sound in her head. “The look on his face was more shocking to me. He looked like he was going to rip Matt and Cody a part.”
I was shocked at her statement. He never looked that way to me. When I looked up at him, he just smiled at me.
“Are we talking about the same Liam?” I could help but question was she was saying.
“Oh, no doubt. That dance you two had was pretty steamy too.” That I knew what she was talking about. I just didn’t realize she was watching.
“Why were you watching? I thought you were dancing with Garrett?”
“I was but we weren’t the only ones that noticed. Everyone had seen you two together. Honestly, it looked like you two were about to get it on while dancing.”
“April!” I shrieked at her. “Oh my gosh. How embarrassing.” I buried my face into my pillow. Everyone noticed?
“It really pissed Kristin off. Her girlfriends were trying to calm her down, but she was watching you two like she was about to kill you both. Garrett had told me that apparently, Liam broke up with her earlier this week and seeing you two like that was her final straw. She ended up storming out of the party.”
I was shocked, literally my jaw about hit the ground. Kristin and Liam had been the “it” couple of Woods Creek High for the past two years. I guess it makes sense as to why he danced with me and not with her. I bet he was just dancing with me to get under her skin. I feel so used and now upset. That’s it, I’m talking to him now.
“Do you have Garrett’s number?” I asked, clearly surprising A with my question.
“Yeah, he put it in my phone last night. Why?” She looked at me with questioning eyes.
“Can you ask him for Liam’s number?” She nodded with understanding. While waiting for Garrett to respond to her text, I went ahead and jumped into the shower. Washing off all the grime from the night before was exactly what I needed.
I finished getting changed into some skinny jeans with a light knitted pullover. I quickly dried my hair and added a bit of curl to it before adding some simple makeup to my face.
April was all giggly while she was on the phone talking with Garrett. She reached over and handed me a small slip of paper with a number scratched across it.
I decided to head out to her back porch so I didn’t have to hear April flirting ridiculously with Garrett.
Those three rings were the longest, more excruciating rings I have ever heard in my life. I almost chickened out and hung up.
“This is Liam.” His voice sounds sexy as hell on the other line. No, get it together Cecily.
“Hey, this is Cecily.” I was waiting for his to say something, anything. “Liam?”
“Um, hi.” I could tell he was definitely not expecting it to me calling him. “How are you feeling?”
“Better than I was last night, thank you.” I started pacing back and forth on the deck. I couldn’t calm myself. I was getting worked up before I even asked him if he used me to mess with Kristin. “Do you have a minute to talk?” I asked a bit more aggressive than I was intending.
“Yes, but I’ll come get you. I prefer to talk in person.” s**t. I want to talk but in person was going to be harder for sure.
“That’s fine. I’m still at April’s.”
“I’ll see you in five.” And with that, he hung up. s**t. I wasn’t planning on discussing this face to face. I had to keep my head clear and not get wrapped up in my emotions.
It didn’t even take five minutes before Liam had pulled up in front of April’s house. I didn’t hesitate to head towards his car and got into the front passenger seat.
“I have the perfect spot for us to talk.” He said before taking off in that direction. I quickly sent April a text that I was with Liam and would be back in a bit. Of course, she responded saying she was going to need all the details later. I shook my head, quickly reminded myself that I was upset with he and we would just be going to talk.
Liam maneuvered his car with ease through the winding road that led back deeper into the forest around us. Woods Creek is a heavy wooded area so it doesn’t take any time at all to be surrounded by trees. I glance over at him to see his emerald eyes looking back at me. He keeps glancing between me and the road, slowly allowing a smile to form on his lips.
He pulls off onto a small dirt road that goes back into the trees a few yards, before bringing the car to a full spot. He gets out and comes over to my side, opening the door and taking my hand to help me out. The sparks started traveling up my arm from his touch. How does he always do that?
“It’s just right through here.” He said with a smile, as he pointed to the brush just in front of us. I paused with a bit of hesitation. Am I judging this situation all wrong? Should I be going into this thick forest with a guy I barely know? Especially, since I would be confronting him about using me as a pawn in his game with Kristin. I could feel the hurt already building up inside me.
“Is everything ok?” Sensing my initial hesitation, Liam turned to give me a reassuring squeeze of my hand.
“Yeah,” I responded back to him, as I stepped through the brush still holding onto his hand. I wasn’t sure why, but I knew without a doubt that I could trust Liam.
