After asking Grace to let me know if my little flight risk tried to bolt, I went over to the town clinic to check in on Brandon and Venom.
Word traveled fast when I announced to the Outcasts that Jane Reed was my soon-to-be Ol' Lady and under Outcast protection. However, it unnerved me how fast that word got back to Gina. I needed to find out who in my club was still hooking up with her and having pillow talks.
Venom met me at the entrance. "Don't go in there, dude. She is really putting on a show." He rolled his eyes.
"Has Doc already seen her?"
"Yep. They flushed her eye out with some solution. Doc did an exam and didn't see any damage. Of course, Gina's carrying on like she can't see. Bet if you put your Ol' Lady in front of her that would change real quick." Venom told me.
"Man, that was something! Never would have thought Jane would have bested Gina like that!" Brandon met us out front and lit a cigarette.
I had my suspicions already that Jane was hiding something, but this incident confirmed it. I've seen Gina brawl with other bikers, both male and female. She's strong and should have beat the s**t out of Jane. My girl not only fought back but got the jump on Gina.
"Did you pull the dining room camera?" I asked Brandon.
"Yeah. Gina definitely attacked first, even after Jane told her you two weren't seeing each other. You can see Gina charging at poor little Jane like a bull in a china shop right on the f*****g camera." We don't involve law enforcement in Outcast business unless we have exhausted all other options and have no choice. But I didn't put it past Gina to try to involve them anyway, so I wanted to make sure all the ducks were in a row in case the police came after Jane.
"Send the footage to me in case I need it." Even though I have absolutely no desire to go see Gina and listen to her b***h and moan, I have to settle the bill anyway. Gina is petty enough to get a lawyer to try and sue the diner for damages or something bogus.
I instructed the woman in the billing office to send the bill for Gina's care to me, then went to confront Gina. From the hallway I could hear her shouting hysterically.
Thankfully, I saw Doc Calloway in the hallway. I made sure to get his attention out of earshot of Gina. "Doc, how bad is it really?"
"Not nearly as bad as she's carrying on. I suspect she wants drugs." Doc confirmed.
"This is an Outcast matter. Any vision damage I need to be aware of?" Doc nodded in understanding. He has seen many of my bikers for club fights, knife wounds, and an occasional gunshot wound. He knows what "Outcast matter" means, so he won't make a police report. I compensate him well for his discretion.
"None. I'm not even referring her to an optometrist because her vision is clearly intact."
"What do you mean?"
"Before we gave her the eye patch, one of the nurses attempted to administer Gina Toradol, a non-narcotic painkiller. Gina saw the label on the vial, which was about five feet away from her in the line of vision of her affected eye. She screamed at my nurse 'f**k that fake s**t give me Dilaudid you b***h!" Doc Calloway informed me.
"Holy s**t!" I couldn't believe my ears.
"That's what we've been dealing with for the last half hour." Doc Calloway looked disgusted. He's a great doctor, one everyone in town looks up to. He nor his staff deserve to be treated like that.
"Doc, if Gina tries to pull anything, will you testify to what happened here?"
"It's a grey area because of privacy and HIPPA laws, Blaze."
"Even though she verbally assaulted you and your staff?"
Doc thought about it for a minute. "If I can be assured that I won't be in trouble for violating HIPPA, I will cooperate fully. Good luck with all this. That woman's a real pain in the a**!" Doc Calloway stepped away and went into his office.
I took a deep breath and opened the curtain. Gina was laid out on the stretcher with a patch over her eye. She instantly brightened when she saw me.
"Baby, thank you for coming! It really hurts, I can't see out of the eye at all!" She fake-whimpered.
"I've talked to Doc, he said your vision is fine. Stop playing games!" I snapped at her.
"What does he know? He's just a country a** doctor! I'm going to the police to press charges on that little b***h!"
I stormed over to the stretcher and grabbed the rail. "Brandon's dining room camera caught everything, Gina. You'll be the one in trouble. With your record and Doc just telling me you showed drug-seeking behavior today, I wonder what else they will find?"
Gina threw her hands up in the air. "What do you see in her?! What does she have that I don't!"
"For starters, she's got more common sense than you do! Jane told you she wasn't seeing me, yet you still attacked her. Don't you know you could have hurt an innocent person?!" I backed away from the stretcher in disgust.
"I never lied to you, Gina, and I never led you on. You knew the deal, and you still thought you could push your luck. You screwed other bikers to try to make me jealous. You been playin' Ace and Demon off each other the past couple of months. We were over long before I ever knew Jane, and you know it!" Gina looked away, no remorse on her face at all.
"Since you knew Jane was mine, you knew Jane was under the protection of the Outcasts. I could kill you for this, but because of our history, I'll leave you alone if you get the hell out of Toccoa Falls and never come back. It should be easy for you, seeing that you have no ties here." Gina's from North Carolina and has a daughter she doesn't think I know about. When Gina started acting crazy months ago, I looked into her background and was shocked to learn she had a kid. Venom did a deeper dive for me and learned Gina didn't want to be a mother anymore and abandoned the child when she was less than a year old with the kid's biological father.
Yet another reason I never wanted anything permanent with her. I want children one day and would never abandon mine.
"You sure you really want me to leave town? Who knows what I might let slip when I find another gang?" I raised an eyebrow at her.
"I'll send a couple of guys to help you pack." I walked out and met Venom in the clinic parking lot. He stood up as soon as he saw me.
"Brandon went back to the diner to hold things down. Any luck in there with her?"
"Gina's got to disappear. You get me?" When Gina threatened me, I silently decided to make her go away permanently.
"Oh man, not again!" Venom threw his hands up.
A year after I took over the Outcasts, there was a public scandal with one of the town chamber members when he assaulted a young girl who was the niece of an Outcast. She was likely not the first and she wouldn't be the last. The police did what they could but ultimately, he got away with it. The Outcasts took care of him permanently, our first and only k*lling as a club so far.
"You sure about this?" Venom was a better man than me. He hated involving m*rder.
"She's going to be a big problem if we don't. She threatened the club, plus I don't think she's anywhere near done with Jane." There was a crazed look in Gina's eyes when Jane's name was mentioned. I wasn't taking any chances.
Venom sighed. "Well, we can't have that."
I made it a point to tell Gina I'd send a couple of guys over to help her pack in case our chat was overheard. The last time we had to make it look like a car accident. From the information Venom found on Gina, she hasn't been in contact with her family for years, so no one is going to miss her.
"Make it look like she left town." I checked the time and realized it was almost noon. I drove back to the diner to check in and keep an eye on Jane. But when I got there, Brandon was out front on his phone and put it down as soon as he saw me.
"I was just calling you. You missed her by a couple of minutes. Said she wasn't feeling well, but I'm pretty sure it's because of what happened."
I floored my truck out of the parking lot and hightailed it to Jane's apartment. I knew which one was hers from Brandon, so I walked inside and went right to her door. I knocked on the door, but there was no answer.
For a second I panicked, because if she left I may have just missed her. I called Chaos to confirm her car was still at the shop. We have no trains leaving Toccoa Falls, but we do have a bus that does daily runs to Chattanooga.
I put my ear to the door and heard rustling inside. I knocked again. "Jane! Open up or I'm kicking it down!"
The door flew open and there stood my runaway girl, a backpack behind her and fear blazing in her bright blue eyes. "What the hell is the matter with you?! Why won't you leave me alone!!" Jane screamed at me.
"Because you're mine. You don't understand yet, but you will soon. Put your backpack down so we can talk." I stood in front of the door to block her exit.
"For the last time, I'm not yours! You need to let me go!" Jane squared off with me.
"You're not going anywhere. I told you we were going to have a discussion and not to run off!"
Not surprisingly, Jane tried to push past me. I picked her up and walked her over to the couch, putting her on my lap and holding her tightly.
"What are you..." I silenced her with a kiss and everything just faded away. I savored her taste as I explored her mouth and, for a couple of moments, lost myself in her. When I finally pull back, Jane's eyes are still closed and her breath hitches. I rested my forehead against hers, my hands lingering on her jawline.
"I don't know how you ended up here, and I don't care. But you've got even bigger problems now and running away isn't going to solve them."
"Because of you!" She attempted to move away. I held her tighter to me, memorizing her smell.
"The men in my family know when we have found our person. I knew as soon as I saw you last night you were mine, and there is nothing I won't do to make sure you are safe! You can run to f*****g Antarctica, and I'd still come after you. Because you...belong...to....me." I kissed my little runaway into silence.
