Louis layed on his bed, which was more of a hard, dingy mattress, and stared up at the wooden ceiling of his room. When he was at work yesterday, he had felt as if someone was watching him, which he found creepy because the only people who were in the cafe during his shift were those middle-aged men who looked like they were discussing something important.
He had heard the word ‘scenes’ and ‘stages’ and ‘props’ so he assumed they were the filmmakers who were taking up the village by storm. The more he thought about it the scarier it got, though it also became clearer that there was someone else among those boisterous French men.
Someone who looked foreign.
“Louis get your ass down here!” Louis was startled out of his thoughts by his mother’s voice and the boy shivered. He didn’t know what he had done to upset her this time, but he was sure that it was an accident. Not that she would believe it though.
Slowly, he trudged down the stairs to find all his siblings sitting at the table, already eating. His father was reading the daily newspaper as usual and his mother was behind the kitchen counter, fuming.
“Y-Yes mother?”
“You seemed to have forgotten your manners when we had guests over last night but just this once I’ll let it pass. Now, do you know what they were here for?”
“U-Uh...they wanted t-to use our yard for a m-movie?” the Omega whimpered and Madame Beaux nodded looking quite pleased with herself.
“That’s right and we want you to go clean it out until there’s no flaw to be found. Your father and I, along with your siblings are going to be making a trip down to Paris in a week when they start filming, to stay with Uncle Bernie and Aunt Francine until they are done filming. Your job is to manage the house until they are finished,” Madame Beaux told Louis whose eyes widened in shock.
“B-But I want to go as well!” the small male tried to argue but one glare from his father had him quiet, tears welling up in his eyes.
“Shut up, boy! You listen to your mother and what she says is final. That’s what Omegas are meant to do anyway. Your job is to take care of the home and the children when the time comes. You must learn to follow orders without arguing every single time. What would your mate think of you?! Oh, I’ll bet you either won’t have a mate or your mate will just be a complete slob. Just like yourself! ” the older man shouted at Louis, making his siblings chuckle at his misery.
“I’m sorry, sir,” the Omega mumbled. He could handle his father degrading him personally but he couldn’t handle it when it was his, most likely non-existent, mate that was being insulted.
“You better be sorry, boy. You disgrace. I wonder who’ll want to take you as their other half, faggot,” Louis’ heart broke even more at the fact that his father was probably right but maybe it was the heat of the moment or maybe it was just the rage he suddenly felt because Louis decided to do the one thing he had ever thought his submissive nature would never allow him to do: retaliate.
“Shut up! You don’t know me you monster!” Louis shouted and when his rage finally cleared, he finally realized how silent it was.
Fuck.
“What did you just say?” Louis shuddered at Monsieur Beaux’s scarily calm voice.
“I said, shut your mouth you monster. You don’t know me or my mate and as much I can handle you degrading me, don’t you dare badmouth my mate!” Louis had no idea where all this confidence came from but the one thing he knew for sure was that he was as good as dead.
A few seconds of silence passed with Madame Beaux and Louis’ siblings staring at the Omega as if he had just grown another head but the silence was broken by Monsieur Beaux himself.
The older Beta male stood up so fast that his chair toppled over and the table shook, startling his siblings. Marie and Samuel stared at their father in shock while Christian smirked knowingly at his youngest sibling.
Oh, how Louis wanted to smack that stupid grin off his face.
“You’ve done it now boy! I’ve had to deal with your fairy ass for the past 19 years of your pathetic life and this is how you repay me?! By calling me a monster?!” the man roared and Louis immediately flinched. However, he decided that if he was going down, it wouldn’t be without a fight.
“Have you ever considered what I feel, huh? Do you see just how much you put me down and make me hate myself?! Of course, you don’t! That’s what makes you such an asshole. You don’t care whether you hurt people or not, you selfish bastard!” Louis screamed and when he saw his father’s eyes shine with pure rage, the Omega decided it would be a good time to run for it.
The brunette bolted out of the kitchen and he started to panic when he heard his father’s angry footsteps following him.
“Get back here you fag! You worthless piece of s**t! I knew I should’ve killed you the moment you were born as an Omega!” Louis immediately stopped in his tracks and slowly turned around to face his father.
“W-What?”
“You heard me, boy! You should be dead right now but I decided to pity you keep you alive, fag!” the man shouted but all Louis could focus on was the fact that his father had enough hatred towards him to ever consider killing him.
“M-Monster...You really are a monster. You’d even consider killing someone. You’re pathetic!” Louis shouted, tears welling up in his eyes as he decided he had had enough. He took advantage of his father’s momentary shock to run out of the house.
He heard his father screaming at him to come back but he ignored it.
In his panicked and bewildered state, Louis didn’t realize where he was going but when he finally looked up, he realized it was the road to the cafe. Louis let out a sound that was a mix of a whimper and a laugh.
He had nowhere to go and he’d rather die in a ditch than go back home to his angry father.
Just as he was about to reach the corner that the cafe was around, the Omega bumped into someone, which sent him crashing to the ground. He closed his eyes and groaned at the impact before opening his eyes to look at who he’d crashed into but his breath left him when he saw the person in front of him.
The man was tall, probably a few heads taller than Louis, and he had strikingly bright blonde hair and stunning ocean blue eyes that seemed to captivate him. When the man spoke, Louis swore he almost passed out. The man said something in a foreign language that Louis couldn’t understand.
The omega blinked at the breathtaking male completely forgetting that he was still on the ground but he was pulled out of his daze when the blonde man, an Alpha based on his strong presence and heavy yet soothing scent, held out a hand for him to take.
Louis stared at his hand like it was a new species of frogs that he had discovered and blinked, looking between the man and his hand.
“I’m sorry. I wasn’t looking where I was going,” the Alpha finally spoke in French and though it was broken, Louis could still understand him. The man’s voice was smooth and deep, an accent embedded into it and Louis would be lying if he said it wasn’t soothing.
“I-It’s ok…” the Omega replied meekly, taking the hand that was still outstretched. Louis shuddered when he felt a sharp zap go through him, like electricity flowing through his body.
“Are you ok?”
“Yes...I’m alright,” the man looked at Louis skeptically before speaking once again.
“You seem panicked. Is something wrong? Actually, let’s talk somewhere a bit more private. It’s a bit awkward in front of a cafe,” the man spoke in broken French but Louis found it quite attractive.
He wondered where this man was from. He sure wasn’t from France or any French-speaking country, that’s for sure.
Louis knew he shouldn’t follow a stranger, especially an Alpha, places but something about this man drew him in. Maybe it was his voice, or maybe it was his looks. Heck, it could even be his goddamn accent, but whatever it was, Louis knew it was something big.
The blonde Alpha gently held Louis’ hand and guided him somewhere that Louis was quite familiar with. They were heading towards Louis’ house and it then that the boy started panicking once again.
“P-Please don’t take me home! I-I’ll do a-anything!” The Alpha stopped and looked at the younger male, concern shining in his eyes. He gently pulled the Omega closer to him, holding his shaking body against his chest as he, once again, said something in the foreign language he was speaking earlier.
Unknowingly, Louis began to calm down.
Once he had stopped shaking, the man gently pushed him back a little to get a view of his face. Louis knew he shouldn’t be doing this.
He shouldn’t be getting so familiar with a stranger. He shouldn’t be exposing his weakness to this stranger Alpha. He shouldn’t be feeling comfortable with him, but every cell in his body screamed in happiness when he was in the foreigner Alpha’s arms. His Omega instinct mewled and Louis felt a sense of security that he had never felt before.
“I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have just pulled you away from there. I haven’t even introduced myself. I’m Nikolas Andreevich Kirilov and I’m from Russia, so pardon my French. And you are…?” the Alpha, who Louis now knew as Nikolas asked and Louis looked at him, blushing when he realized he was being asked a question.
“I-I’m Louis. L-Louis Beaux,” the Omega mumbled shyly, looking at his shoes which seemed a lot more interesting now. The Alpha hummed before looking like he had a ‘eureka’ moment.
“Beaux family as in the one that makes owns that winemaking company?” Nikolas asked and Louis looked at the Alpha, frowning but he nodded nonetheless. It was always his family. No one asked about him.
“Oh, ok. Anyways, I hope you do not mind me asking, but are you an Omega?” Nikolas asked and when he saw Louis grimace, he quickly added “You don’t have to answer if it makes you uncomfortable,”
“I am. I-Is that something you’re a-against?” Louis asked, looking down once again and before he had the chance to think of anything negative, he was gently being pushed away from the warmth of the Alpha’s body. Tears welled up in his eyes at the sign of rejection but when he looked up to look at the Alpha, he was rather surprised.
Nikolas was giving him a gentle smile though his ears were a bright red.
“I’m so sorry! I should not have hugged you like that! That was very inappropriate of me!” the Alpha apologized profusely his broken French getting even more choppy.
“T-That’s alright. You’re the first one to actually consider my secondary gender,” Louis admitted shyly and the Alpha looked at him with a frown.
“Why is that?”
“C-Can we talk somewhere a bit more...private?” Louis asked, looking around and noticing that the bystanders were whispering animatedly amongst themselves, subtly pointing at the pair.
“Oh yeah. Of course. I’m staying in a hotel close to here, actually. If you’re not uncomfortable we can talk there? My best friend is there too and he’s probably wondering where I am,” Nikolas said, sheepishly scratching the back of his neck. When he saw Louis’ panicked face, he shook his head.
“No no. My friend is also an Omega and I just...I thought that he might be able to help calm you down,” Nikolas admitted and Louis let out a breath he didn’t know he was holding.
“Ok. I kinda don’t have anywhere to go anyways,” Louis mumbles and if Nikolas heard it, he didn’t comment. Instead, he pulled the brunette to where his hotel was. Louis held his breath unconsciously as they walked past his house, making sure to stay hidden beside the Alpha, in case his parents were looking for him.
Nikolas led them to the most expensive hotel in Yvoire and Louis was both amazed and relieved. Expensive hotels meant good security, so he could relax a bit without worrying about kidnapped. It also meant a lot of money, meaning Nikolas was rich.
“Good afternoon Mr. Kirilov,” a lady, whom Louis vaguely recognized as Leanne, the woman who came by the cafe regularly, greeted Nikolas in English. Her eyes widened as she saw Louis and she offered him a polite smile although her eyes were searching him for any harm.
“Oh, Louis, good seeing you here. Are you ok?” she asked Louis in French and stressed the last word as if asking Louise if he was being kidnapped or held against his will.
“I’m ok. Thanks for asking. Nikolas and I have somethings to discuss. If my parents ask for me, tell them I’m not going back, though I doubt they’ll even ask,” Louis said the last part bitterly and Leanne nodded as she watched the two males walk away.
“You speak English?” Louis asked Nikolas, in French, once they got onto the elevator. The blonde Alpha looked at Louis and gave him a smile that showcased a dimple on his left cheek.
“Yes. I am a businessman and it is an important skill,” Nikolas said matter-of-factly and Louis nodded dumbly.
So he was a businessman. No wonder he could afford to stay in such a luxurious hotel. Louis wondered if he was a successful businessman or if he was still fairly new. He had no idea why he was so curious about this man but then again, he somehow felt connected to him so maybe it was because of that bond.
“Can you speak English?” Nikolas asked Louis as the elevator finally got to one of the top floors and Louis nodded proudly. Although Yvoire was small, he had managed to catch onto the language at a young age.
When he was still in school, Louis never wanted to go home so he spent his in the library and went through all of the books in the English language, practicing and practicing until he had a grasp of the language.
From there on, when the rest his family weren’t paying attention, he would bring in English books and novels that he had borrowed from the small public library, and hide them under his mattress, reading them at night.
Eventually, once he started working at the cafe a few years ago, he was exposed to more foreign visitors so he was able to put his knowledge to the test. Now, he was able to speak the language quite fluently for someone who had taught themselves.
Nikolas looked at the Omega with a gentle smile.
“Oh, did you study abroad?” Louis shook his head.
“I actually taught myself here,” the Omega admitted shyly and Nikolas gave him an impressed look.
“Did it take you long? It took me years to perfect the language. French took me a couple of years but I haven’t spoken it in a while so I’m very rusty, as you can tell,” Nikolas chuckled like he had just told the funniest and Louis couldn’t help but giggle.
“Well, then would you mind speaking in English? French is hard to keep up with,” Nikolas asked, in English, and Louis nodded. He was excited to show off the one skill he had.
“Alright then. My suite is right here. I think Adrian might still be asleep so we’ll have to be a bit quiet. He gets really grumpy if he’s woken up before he wants,” Nikolas told Louis quietly in English and the Omega nodded, happy that his skill wasn't as rusty as he had thought it would be, as they walked into the suite.
The first thing that Louis noticed when they walked in, was just how big the suite really was. There was even a kitchen and bar, for heaven’s sake.
Nikolas watched as the brunette looked around in awe and he couldn’t help but smile fondly at the sight of his mate looking around his living space. By this point, Nikolas had basically figured out that the smaller male was his True Mate and Louis confirming that he was an Omega basically gave it away.
“Now that you know I’m not out to kidnap you, let’s talk,” Nikolas said as he sat down on the couch. Louis gave him a teasing look.
“How can I be sure you’re not planning to kidnap me?” although Louis’ English was a bit accented but he seemed more fluent in it than Nikolas did with French.
Nikolas only chuckled.
“Well, you don’t know but I suppose you’ll just have to trust me,” Nikolas said as Louis sat down on the armchair across the blonde Alpha.
“Alright, anyways, let’s get straight to business. I know you feel a bond between us because I feel it too. I’m assuming you have questions about it?” Nikolas got straight to business and Louis opened his mouth to ask the Alpha how he knew but decided against it. Instead, he just nodded.
“Well, long story short, it’s our mate bond. I’m your mate,” Nikolas said straightforwardly. Louis gaped and stared at Nikolas as if he had just grown another head.
“W-What?”
“We’re mates, Louis. True Mates. I know it sounds strange but I just know it. There’s that strange feeling that feels like we have some kind of connection and moreover, when you’re around, the only scent I can smell is yours. It’s quite hard to suppress myself, actually,” Nikolas told the younger male bluntly and Louis blushed.
Now that actually thought about it, he realized that the Alpha was right. All he could smell was the scent of sweet cherries and sandalwood and Louis realized that the odd combination was quickly becoming his favourite scent.
“Moreover, True Mates only occur between Alpha and Omega pairs so that’s another proof that you are my other half. I think the best piece of proof we have is the connection we feel because I’ve never felt it with anyone else. You give me a sense of calmness and peace without even doing anything,” Nikolas explained and Louis only nodded.
He had read a bit about True Mates and he knew that Nikolas was right.
Usually, people picked their own mates but in the rare case that one met their True Mate, the biggest proof would be the undeniable connection that they felt.
“Louis? Say something, love. You’re scaring me,” Nikolas called and Louis snapped out of his thoughts with a blush.
“S-Sorry I’m just a bit overwhelmed,” Louis immediately felt bad when he saw the slightly hurt look on Nikolas’ face. “Not in a bad way. It’s just a lot of information to take in but I accept it,”
Nikolas visibly relaxed and Louis felt a bit giddy at the thought of being someone’s mate but the happiness was short-lived when he remembered his father’s words.
‘You disgrace. I wonder who’ll want to take you as their other half’
Louis tensed and all of a sudden, the bubble of happiness that was created was ruined. Nikolas, as if sensing Louis’ sudden change in mood, reached out to gently take the Omega’s hand in his own.
“Hey, what’s wrong?”
“I-I don’t...we’re not…I’m not worthy o-of you,” Louis stuttered as tears burned in his eyes. He felt them slowly slide down his cheeks but before they could leave a burning trail down his cheeks, they were being wiped away and he was being pulled into Nikolas’ lap.
Normally Louis would’ve blushed, but at that exact moment, he was so distressed that all thoughts of embarrassment left his mind. Instead, it was filled with comfort and security, which prompted him to let out a choked sob.
“Hey, solnyshko, it’s alright. Let it out and tell me what’s wrong,” Louis had no idea what the foreign word meant but it was quite calming and soon, his sobs turned into sniffles, all the while Nikolas rocked them back and forth, whispering calming things into the distressed Omega’s ear.
Once Louis was calm, he peeked up at Nikolas who was looking down at him with such adoration that the Omega thought he’d melt.
“Are you alright? That was quite a breakdown,”
Louis blushed and buried his face back into Nikolas’ chest, taking in the scent of cherries and sandalwood.
“It’s not a bad thing, solnyshko. It shows me that you trust me which really helps soothe my Alpha instincts,” Nikolas admitted and Louis looked up at the blonde with a small, shy smile.
“There’s that smile. Now, would you mind telling me what happened, solnyshko?”
Louis shook his head.
Maybe it’s time to tell someone and get this burden off my chest.
