A Hero's Journey

    When people see me sometimes it feels as though they only see a girl with long raven black hair, the deepest brown eyes, clear caramel-like skin, and only 5’2 flat, like there's nothing more to me. That I can just be said to be a certain person. It’s hard when people just look at you and makeup how they like you are or should be as a person, but hey that’s my life. I hope that it won't be like this forever, but for now, I just have to push through it. This is my senior year and after this, I can finally leave this place. I am happy to be finishing my last year of high school with my twin brother and my two best friends, Makaylah and Trent. Makaylah and Trent are dating, I'm happy for them but I know in the end that Trent is going to break her heart. Even though they seem so in love I just don’t think he can handle a serious relationship. It kind of gets hard for my twin and me because his name is Aaron and mine is Aren. They are spelled differently, but people always make it sound the same even though it has two different pronunciations, it can get difficult to keep explaining it to so many people. After a while, we just stopped correcting people. It got really irritating and it still is. I try not to let it show too much. I mean I love my brother with all my heart he is my twin and all, but I'd rather not share a name with him.   I do not do what most 17-year old's do for example; my brother can/is considered one of the popular kids in our school, and everyone considered popular or not even the people that are said to never be seen are always going to games, parties, functions, and a lot of other school or non-school stuff. While I on the other hand is quite opposite of my twin. I focus on my studies and pretty much do the same thing every day. I wake up, get ready, go to school, pick up stuff at the store for dinner, then go home, study, and do my homework, make dinner, get ready for bed then sleep. At least on the weekends, I get to go to the station. Now I get to go to the crime scenes and take the pictures, I wasn’t allowed to before, but I was able to convince everyone. My dad's not so thrilled with it but it’s the closest I can get to solve a real mystery, and that’s what I need.  Right now, it’s Friday, lunch just ended, and I have two classes left today. I'm walking down the hall with Makaylah and Trent, we all have our last two classes together.  “Are you okay, Aren?” Makaylah askes me out of nowhere.  I just said a small “Yes” with a nod,  but she knows somethings up, although I'm grateful that she lets it go, for now anyway. I know that she’ll bring it back up later, but it’s time for class. We head to our math class which just so happens to have Aaron in it. Like usual though he fell asleep. He does good in school, gets mostly A’s and B’s (he is considered a B student though), but he always falls asleep in this class. I never understood that. There was a sub in math, so it went by pretty fast. Now I must go to my last class history. I can’t focus in my last class because all I could think about was the mysterious kidnappings that have been happening these last 2 months, but there hasn’t been one in the last two weeks which could only mean that something is going to happen soon. That’s all I could think about. Before I knew it the school day is over.   After school Makaylah found me walking out the main doors to outside and decided that she wanted to go to the store with me. I agree and we head over. once we got there, we split up so I could get everything I need and Makaylah could walk around. I got all the things I was going to use for dinner and Makaylah got a snack. After we were done with the shopping that’s when she tells me that she knows something is wrong, so her being Makaylah she tells me to spill it. So, I can't hold it in anymore and I tell her everything that has been happing and what I think is going to happen.  “You may be right about this. Just please watch out and be careful?” Makaylah pleads.  “Of course, you too.” I reply back  “I have to go home now, but I'll talk to you later. Bye," Makaylah says as she begins to walk home.  “Bye,” I called her way.  I’m glad Makaylah understands, now I just need to talk to dad about this, I thought as I made my own way home to finish my studies for the day.
