The Mate Pull

1055 Words
Axel felt hungover, she needed to meet Alpha Sloane for breakfast to discuss the three male wolves. She knew that if her mate didn’t claim her she would fall into heat. An Alpha in heat is awful. It causes weak wolves to attack and mate the wolf. She didn’t want that to happen. She needed to keep her mate out of her mind until the last day. “Whoa, Axel, excuse my rudeness, but you look like shit.” She heard an audible growl, but couldn’t tell the source. She grabbed food, while nodding at the Alpha’s comment. Sloane lead her to his table. There were wolves radiating arousal as they walked by. “I’m guessing you didn’t sleep well. Did you smell your mate?” She met his eyes quickly. “That obvious huh. I heard him howl. I’m sure I will find him at the dance. I heard there is a bonfire tonight. I’ll keep eyes out for rogues.” “You don’t want to attend?” Sloane squinted at her, “nah, I need some time with my thoughts and don’t want to be hit on by other males with my mate around.” Another low growl hit her ears, but could tell Alpha Sloane had not heard it. Maybe she was just hearing things from lack of sleep. She swore it was her mate. If this kept up, her heat could come faster than the dance. She noticed Sloane saying her name as if calling her back to earth. “Goddess, Axel. I’ve never seen you like this. Maybe you should go for a run or take a nap. We can cover security until the bonfire.” “No, I’m fine. I just thought I was hearing something. The um…three males…” *Growl.* Axel stood up and turned around, “knock it off!” Every wolf including Sloane lowered their heads. She smelled fear from many. She was getting annoyed and the lack of sleep was making it worse. She growled and sat down with her fist slamming the table. “f**k, Axel. You okay?” She put her head in her hands, “my mate is messing with me, because I told him that I needed to complete some information gathering. He is literally growling low enough where only I can pick it up. Every f*****g time I say something about another male.” Sloane started to laugh. “This guy sounds hilarious. Exactly what you need. Maybe you should take a nap though.” She nodded. “Yeah you are right. If you need me I’ll be at the cabin and I’ll have my phone available.” He smiled and nodded. “Good luck, Alpha.” Axel knew Sloane was mocking her. There were very few people that joked with her like Maverick did. As she was heading back to her cabin she bumped into someone. “Oh sorry.” The young girl fell back. “Oh you have to be kidding me. Wasn’t enough to interrupt my lunch, now you have to knock me over?” She let a growl escape her lips, “why is everyone so rude lately?” Axel started to walk away. “Oh you must be the b***h Alpha, Tristan had warned me about.” She sniffed the air. Alpha Tristan, a mated Alpha, had definitely bedded this Omega. She called her own Alpha without title. This pack was worse than she thought. An Alpha with no control over his pack. She turned her head slowly back with a smile. “A b***h?” She gave a winning smirk. “I saw your mate outside your cabin last night. He’s hot. Can’t believe he let trash like you turn him away.” A growl was forming on her lips, “you don’t want to continue down this path Omega.” “Or what? You aren’t anything I can’t handle. Maybe I should approach your mate. I mean he deserves better obviously.” Axel was a feared Alpha, even if some people thought she was a man. This was twice in one weekend she had been disrespected. Call it the beginning of her heat, blame it on the mate pull or lack of sleep, but her resolved slipped. She pushed out all of her dominance. She cornered the Omega. The Omega’s eyes grew big and as she felt the wall behind her, she gulped. Axel’s deep Alpha voice pushed through, “let’s get one thing straight Omega. My mate will never be a topic of discussion for you from here on out. I am not in the mood to continue this conversation without ripping your head off. Do you understand me?” The Omega started to smell petrified. “Yes, Alpha. I’m sorry.” Axel pushed off the wall. “I’m sorry your mate has to deal with you..” Axel charged her fangs bared and claws out. A pair of strong arms stopped her. While Sloane placed himself between the pair. She felt her body calm and instantly knew who was holding her. Axel was pissed this little Omega had caused her mate to touch her. He instantly let go and stepped back, after Axel calmed down. “My love, if you want our deal to stand, you need to go to your cabin and shower.” Axel raced through the path hoping her mate and Sloane would understand what happened. Axel couldn’t focus on anything, but where her mates touch had been. The scent was all over her. She had a day at most before her heat would hit. Maybe less. She scrubbed her body. Sloane told her she wasn’t needed until the next day. He had heard that there were rogues making their way to the pack line. He would need her strength to eliminate them without the gathering being alarmed. Axel changed into workout clothes and decided a run was needed. She started off toward the woods and came to the edge of Tristan’s pack land. She made sure no one knew of her presence. She stayed there and watched from a high tree and started to notice the rogues, Sloane mentioned. She overheard of plans to attack Alpha Sloane at the gathering. She now knew the place and time. It would be good for her to hunt some prey.
