week 6 + Six

Every year, five weeks after the regular classes commence, the school always schedules a welcome party for its students. It is to welcome new and returning students, and to look forward to the start of the semester.

The party will be held at the school gym, since there will be plenty of students who will be attending; they always host it inside the campus. The school gives stubs to the students for their drinks and food, different food trucks are available, and there is no alcohol allowed inside the school premises. The gym is well equipped with a sound system and AC and enough space for everyone. The broadcasting department is the one in charge of the decoration and music. And every year they always have different themes to go by.

 Elena and the girls only knew a handful of familiar faces. Kate and Emma are having fun at the dance floor. They dance with the rest of their classmates. While Elena is somewhere sitting at the bleacher and cheering watching the two girls sway their hips, while waiting for Abby.

Elena saw Maddox and his friends at the other side of the gym. When the straub lights hit her face, Maddox saw her and waved at her. She waved back.

Maddox walks over to her.

“Hey, where are your friends? Asked Maddox.

“Hi Em! Says Ace.

“Wow you look hot, no wonder my friend cannot wait to come over here and sit with themmmm,'' Jerry teases as he points to the other ladies who were sitting near her. Elena is wearing a halter top with skinny jeans.  Not so formal to the party, but still goes with the theme.

"Hi guys! I’m waiting for Abby, Emma and Kate are already at the dance floor", said Elena.

“Bro let’s start dancing, there are pretty girls on the dance floor. Come on” urge Jerry.

Maddox is a bit hesitant to leave. “Are you sure you want to stay here? It will be more fun on the dance floor.”

“Yeah, I am sure, I’ll just wait for Abby, will join you guys once she comes”, says Elena.

After twenty minutes Abby arrived, she did not stay long with Elena. She joins Emma and Kate at the dance floor. Elena is not a fan of any party, but she has her own way of enjoying it, though she does not dance she looks forward to attending a party, one because of food, two because of music. She moved further up the bleacher where she can see the whole floor and enjoy watching the movements in the party.

She sees her girlfriend dancing with the boys and their other classmates. Watching them dance makes her smile. She did not notice that Maddox saw all her reactions. Especially when Kate did a lap dance to one of their classmates, the shocked face of Elena created some flutters in his heart. She looks so cute.

After a while of dancing, they all went to sit beside Elena.

“Oh my god Kate. You dance well, you look so hot!” Gushes Elena.

“Ohh girl I think she will be collecting some phone numbers tonight”. Says Emma.

“I might, do you want some phone numbers I can share you know” winks Kate.

The girls were giggling. They seem to like the idea of Kate getting some boys tonight.

“I want to go out for a while, want to come with me Ace?” Says Maddox.

The boys went outside the gym while the girls remained at their seats.

When the boys come back, each brings back a glass of soft drinks, except Maddox he is holding two glasses. He handed the other glass to Elena; she was surprised and the gestures warmed her heart.

“Hey why did you only bring one, besides can’t you see Me, Emma and Abby before you can reach Elena. Do you really skip que?” teases Kate.

“Sorry girls, I only have an extra stub. Where are your stubs? I can go and get some for you”. Explains Maddox.

Emma was grinning, “it's okay we can go and collect it, anyway I want to go to the restroom. You girls want to go out?”

The girls stood up and collected their clutches and went out. Elena thanked Maddox for the drinks.

Maddox did not stop looking at her until she was out of sight. He does not understand why he even brought her a glass of soft drinks. His friends did not fail to notice him but remained quiet. Bro code? Yeah maybe.

Maddox and Elena did not see each other after the girls went out to get some drinks. The girls decided they had enough and went back home. While the guys stayed until the party ended.

That night Elena was not able to get some sleep. She can’t stop replaying in her mind when Maddox skipped the girls just to hand her the glass of soft drinks. How sweet of him to bring her over a glass of soft drinks even though she did not dance with them.

She started to think about him, and realized his gestures made her stomach feel butterflies.

Does the glass of soft drink mean he likes him too?
