Ava kept on peeping through a hole on the door even if it was something awful. She saw a group of boys beating up a single boy. What nonsense! The boy was trying so hard to escape but they were just too much for him.
"This is so weird and brutal. What sort of a school is this anyway? I hate being in a place where bullies are." Ava said with disgust. She quickly remembered she was heading to the principal's office before she got distracted.
"Damn it! Now, I have forgotten the directions della told me because of this worthless distraction. Oh, ava, I think you are actually a fool for being easily distracted on your first day. " Ava said to herself. She tried to recall the directions . Fortunately for her, she quickly remembered it after she walked down the staircase.
"Thank Goodness. This school is so huge. I wonder how these kids get to classes in time." Ava said. She eventually got to the Principal's office.
"Miss......." Principal Smith said.
"Oh, I'm Ava Miller, sir." Ava replied.
"That's true. How can I forget? My bad. You are the one that passed out scholarship examination. Congratulations. You are highly welcome to Grayson High School. My secretary will direct you to homeroom." Principal Smith said, warmly.
Then he continued, "This school is very tough and there is a whole lot of competition going on here. I must also remind you to adhere to the scholl rules and regulations. We would love to see you fulfill the promise you made while filling the Oath of Undertaking form. "
"That's not a problem, Principal Smith. I am really good at behaving myself." Ava said, smiling.
"That's good. Mrs Jones?" Principal Smith said, calling his secretary.
"Yes sir." Mrs Jones replied.
"This is Ava Miller, the new scholarship student. Please escort her to classroom. She's in the 11th Grade." Principal Smith.
"Okay sir. Come on, ava." Mrs Jones said and ava followed suit.
"To be fair, Mrs Jones, this school is gorgeous and very huge." Ava said, trying to start a conversation.
"Grayson High School, founded in 1998. I'm guessing Principal Smith has giving you a little orientation. To add to whatever he told you, you have to be diligent and very determined to excel here. These kids here are fire." Mrs Jones said.
"and to add to what I told Principal Smith, I will do my very best to be the best around here. After all, it's just for a short time." Ava said.
"I love the confidence but trust me, over- confidence is really bad. It will only land you in a pitiable state." Mrs Jones said.
Ava was confused at that moment.
"Is she trying to discourage me? Are the students in the school robots? What am I doing here?" She asked within herself.
"Here we are, Ava. This is your classroom. Feel free to talk to everyone and ask your peers if you need something. Your class parent can also assist you. Do have a nice day and welcome to Grayson High School once again." Mrs Jones said and left.
"Wow, too formal. She seems nice by the way." Ava said.
Ava peeped from the opened door. She was shocked to see her new classroom in such a disorganized and lousy way.
"Grayson High, School of the Elites, blah, blah, blah. That's all what I have been hearing since I got here. One would think the classrooms are very well organized but no, it's a market place in the four walls of a classroom.
She sighed heavily and entered the classroom. Immediately, everyone scrammed to their various seats. They thought a teacher had entered their class. Ava was shocked to see the class very quite in a flash.
"Hey, who are you and what are you doing here?" A male student broke the silence by asking.
"Hi, everyone. My name's Ava Miller and I'm your new classmate." Ava introduced, not portraying any sign of being shy.
"New classmate? I thought this class was already due to accept new intakes." Another male student said.
" You are welcome though. There is a seat at the back. Own it." A female student said. Then a real teacher came into the classroom.
"Please, settle down, students." The teacher said.
"Miss, are you trying to be funny? We are settled already. Just proceed with the class." A student said, rudely. Ava was, again irritated by the student's rude behavior.
"Oh, that's right. "The teacher said. She was a young, dark skinned lady. There isn't much to say about her. She was just good.
"I see a new student in the class." The teacher, Miss Williams said.
"New student, please introduce yourself." Miss Williams continued.
"Her name is Ava Miller. Let's just get over with this class." A female student said to the teacher.
"What's with this kids?" Ava asked herself.
"So class, today, we will be treating the topic, Comparison between two novels."
Ava was relieved and happy that classes had finally commenced. She was happier it took off with her best subject, Literally Studies. Ava noticed how the students kept on asking and answering questions she couldn't answer.
"Principal Smith and his secretary were right. These kids are really smart. Ava, you have to be strong here. Remember, you passed the scholarship exam. You can do this one, So help me, God."
After series of classes, the bell rung.
"Oh, recess.!" A female student exclaimed in excitement.
"Finally!" Ava said loudly. Her classmates turned to her, giving her a weird stare. Ava felt so embarrassed. She packed her books in her backpack and left the class to have lunch at the cafeteria. From a distance, Della waved at her. This time, Della was with company, two girls and a boy.
"That's my new friend, ava. She's a new student." Della introduced. Ava walked up to them.
"Hi , Ava. I'm Ocean." Ocean, one of Della's friends said.
"Hey. Nice to meet you, Ocean." Ava said.
"Hey, ava. I'm Oliver." The male student introduced.
"Hi." Ava said to him. The other student was busy with something on her phone.
"Sophia, can't you say hi to Ava?" Ocean asked. Looking lost, Sophia said, " To be honest, guys, I really didn't notice someone was here with us."
"Uh!" Ocean and della said simultaneously.
"I'm so sorry. Ava, right?" Sophia said.
"Yeah." Ava replied.
"I'm Sophia, by the way. There's quite a lot you've gotta know about me and learn from me. " Sophia continued.
"Yeah, totally, Ava. This girl is one in a million. " Ocean said.
"Thank you babe." Sophia said.
"Della, I need to tell you something." Ava said.
"Spill it out. What's up?" Della said.
In a lower tone, ava said, " Okay. When you left for classes in the morning, I had to head to the Principal's office but in my way there, I was distracted by a very awful scene and it's really giving me chills."
"Dramatic scene?" Sophia asked for confirmation.
"Yeah. In an abandoned room that seems more or less like a*****e down the hall way before heading to the Principal's office, I saw a group of boys beating up a boy. They were so malicious and brutal. " Ava continued.
Della and her friends heaved a very loud sigh.
"You don't want to mess with those guys, Ava." Della said.
"Why?" Ava asked.
"Those guys you saw beating up someone, they are popularly known as Penta-Gigantus. Well, that was their group name in middle school until they were dragged for having such a cringe name." Della explained.
"They are five in number and very notorious." Sophia said.
"Extremely malicious. They give this 'we own the school' energy and to be honest m, they actually do because not even the Principal can control them. They are too much." Della added.
"Guys, I think we should head to the cafeteria. Recess will be over in a few minutes yet we haven't grabbed anything to eat. I'm starving." Oliver said.
"Yeah, right. Me too. " Della said and they all headed to the cafeteria.
