Suddenly An Heiress

Rory has always been known as Rory Mae Smith since she was born but what she didn’t know was that her parents were the heir and heiress to the two biggest conglomerates in the country. A week ago, her grandparents, the Montgomery and the Forbes found her. And just like this, she learnt that her real name was Dorothy Mae Forbes Montgomery. Her parents were so in love, they wanted her to have both their last names. The two families were such rivals, they objected to her parents’ marriage. They eloped and had her. They lived an honest, hardworking life. Her parents earned enough only to give her a decent life, nothing like what they were born into.  With her new found family, Rory was suddenly able to be freed from the worries of money. She was suddenly like the students in her school. Rory never understood why her parents insisted that she attended the top school in the city, it also happens to be the school where all the rich and famous attends. The fees was exorbitant but Rory worked hard to got herself a scholarship. Turns out, it was because her parents used to go there. She was always the invisible student in schools because unlike her peers, she was “poor”, she could not afford their kind of lifestyle. She was always rushing off for her part-time job after school while her peers roamed the mall and spent their parents’ money. Sometimes, they would give her a hard time for working there too. Not everyone ignored her. There were some girls who were kind to her but Rory avoided them because she felt like they were worlds apart. If you must, they are possibly the only people close to being a friend to her. With her new status, it brought a lot of attention to her. Her grandparents could not wait to shower her with all their love and gifts. She was suddenly given a new apartment in the swanky part of town where all the elite students lived. She had a whole new wardrobe of clothes, shoes, and bags that were all too expensive! In honesty, the wardrobe was very exciting for a young girl like her. Sometimes even Rory herself forgets that she is only 16. The first day Rory went back to school after reuniting with her grandparents, she rolled up to school in her new Bugatti. It was a compromise between a Lamborghini or being chauffeured to school in a Bentley. As expected, when she drove in, everyone had their eyes on her new ride, and the shock on their faces when they saw her exit the car.   “Isn’t she poor?" “Has she been hiding her wealth all these times?” “Someone’s got a new sugar daddy…” Everyone was talking about her. Her peers came from wealth but Rory looked like she was way out of their league now. It is no wonder, she hails from the two richest families in town, no one can compete with the wealth she will inherit. In fact, wait till the rest of her peers find out about her new families, everyone will want to fawn on her. She was worried about that happening but she would not mind if it was James. Rory always had a soft spot for James because he was always so kind. He is good looking and a total gentleman. More importantly, he never seem to be involved with most girls like Seth is.  Like every school, there is a ranking for the cutest guys in school. The top three at Rory’s were James, Seth, and Scott. If you ask Rory, they are better known as James the kind, Seth the player, and Scott the snob. Scott was too good for everyone, so they rarely saw much of him, except to show off the who and whom he met at his dad’s event. It didn’t take long for rumors to spread in the school that Rory has gotten a new sugar daddy. It did not help that she convinced her grandparents to let her keep her last name until her Senior year. She could not handle more changes in the year. “So, I hear you’re now a sugar baby? Good for you. Finally decided to crawl out of poverty?” Seth said to Rory as he took the seat beside her, at the back of the class.  “Leave her alone, Seth. You know she’s not like one of them,” James came to Rory’s rescue like he always does. For a moment there, she allowed herself to fall for James. She has always controlled her feelings towards James because she never felt good enough for him. Maybe, just maybe, she can be now…
