CHAPTER.1
HAILEY'S POV
Today was another hectic day for me at work. Being the manager of my father's company wasn't an easy task, but I kept going and taking the company higher so that one day I will become the CEO.
That has been a dream of mine. Sigh! But my Dream shattered when my dad told me that he was going to hand over the company I worked hard for to my step-sister, Talia.
I was too stunned to say a word as I stared at my dad in disbelief.
Was this man serious?
The company my mother built, he wanted to give it to a stranger when I, who is my mother's daughter, was alive. How possible is that?
“ Dad, you can't be serious” I mumbled as I stood with my bag in my hand staring at my father who was sitting on a sofa with a newspaper in his hand.
“ That's my decision. You can take the real estate and other properties, but that company belongs to Talia” he said without looking at me and I chuckled in disbelief.
“ Dad, you know that this company belongs to my mother? She built it with her sweat and gave it to you when she was about to die, now you're denying her daughter the company of her mother?” I shouted as anger laced my voice.
I was already tired from working myself out at the office and when I thought I could get a good rest at home, my dad began spouting out gibberish.
“ Your mother is dead, and the company now is mine. NH global limited is mine now, so I get to decide whom to give and whom not to. Can't you be grateful for giving you the estates and other properties of mine?” My father finally raised his head to look at me. I looked intently into his eyes, praying that he would suddenly call it a joke and say that the company was mine, but hell no! His eyes spoke seriousness and I felt weak knowing that my dad could actually choose his stepdaughter over his blood.
Talia isn't my father's daughter. I found out years ago when I was cleaning the house. I saw Talia's DNA papers, and she was not my father's daughter, but I kept it a secret from anyone, yet my father was blinded by my stepmother in thinking that Talia was his daughter.
“ How sure am I that you didn't kill my mother?” I blurted out when the anger in me was boiling like a volcano.
“ What?” My father furrowed his brows in disbelief.
“ Yes. How sure am I that you didn't force my mother into making you the CEO of NH global limited? Because no loving husband would get married just three months after the death of his first wife. Does that make any sense to you, father?” I smiled sarcastically, making my father more angry.
“ How dare you accuse me of killing your mother?” He stood up and landed a deafening slap across my face.
I was hurt, not because of the slap, but of the fact that he said 'my mother' instead of 'his wife'. Does that mean he has forgotten her and moved on?
“ Now she's no longer your wife but my mother?" I asked with gritted teeth and folded fists.
“ Wake up, Hailey! Wake the f**k up! Your mother has been dead for twenty years. Do you want me to be sucking up because of her death? Wake up and move in because she's long gone and would never come back.” My father shouted and tears rolled down my cheeks.
It hurts so much to hear such words from my father. Even though he was now married to Talia's mother, I thought he would still have a tiny place in his heart for my dead mother, but I was so wrong. He already forgot about her and moved on, but, can I also move on?
The company she built was my only means of connecting with her. That was why I was doing my best to make her proud from up there where she is, but my father just shattered that dream of mine by giving a person who isn't part of my family, my mother's company.
I held my bag so tightly and turned around, heading upstairs. I couldn't get my father's voice off my head as the voice kept repeating itself minutes after minutes until I got to my room.
I threw my bag on the bed and stripped myself before going into the bathroom to take a cool bath.
As I went under the shower, I felt my anger reduced, but the voice was still ringing in my head that I had to shout before it stopped.
The fact that my dad told me to forget about my mom was agonising enough to traumatise me. Who would believe that my dad could ever change, despite the love he had for my mother when she was alive.
I was once inspired by their love that I felt like getting married, but now, I don't think I had the same mentality I had then when my mother was still alive.
'To me, marriage wasn't a do-or-die affair. I would rather stay single for life than get married and later get killed by my spouse because of my wealth'. This is my mentality now.
After staying under the shower for thirty minutes, I turned the shower off, and wrapped a towel round my chest.
I needed to see my boyfriend, Matthew and sleep over at his place because I was feeling suffocated staying inside the same house with my father.
I dressed up and took my phone and left the house in my car. I dialled Matthew's line, but it wasn't going through, and I was getting worried. He never for once ignored my call, but I called almost ten times, but it wasn't going through, so I pressed on the brake, and sped to his place.
I rushed out of the car when I got to his apartment, and pressed the code to his apartment, which was the date we started dating.
This was my first time being in love and Matthew made me feel special, but I don't think I would ever get married to him or anyone else because of the trauma I had about marriage.
I entered the sitting room and began to hear giggles and moans from upstairs. My heart raced, and my legs began to wobble on the ground. I placed my hand on the wall to support me and took a deep breath to calm myself down before heading upstairs.
As I drew closer to Matthew's room, the moans were getting louder and louder, and I could literally hear the slapping of skins when I got to the door to his room.
I couldn't hold myself again and pushed the door open, only to behold the most traumatising scene ever.
My sister was kneeling on all fours while my ever-loving boyfriend, Matthew, was banging her through the back.
