Chapter 3

{Jenson's P.O.V} I couldn't believe I had found my mate an hour ago, yet I was stuck talking to this prick. I couldn't care less right now about what cameras he wants and all of the perverted places he wants them set up. As soon as I could I motioned for Dylan and I to leave so I could figure out how to get into the building with the vent. I struggled keeping Colt under control while he knew our mate was so close. "I will just take another look around both sides and the back of the building to make sure we can cover every area of the building" I say quickly hoping he wouldn't stop me. "OK, not a problem... be quick though, I want to lock up the club and go home", he shouts back, obviously annoyed. "Sure, give me 5 minutes", I say, rushing back to where the vent sits. After a few minutes I hear Dylan..."What are we waiting for, Alpha?" he says through our mind-link. "I found my mate, but I don't know how to get to her", I reply, impatiently. "Oh, you didn't say! Do you want me to follow you round?" "No, stay there and keep that i***t busy". I say before ending the link so I can think clearly. Dylan is actually my Beta and has been my best friend since we were pups. He's strong and is great at thinking forward, so I know he will be able to keep i***t Michael's busy for 10 minutes while I try and figure this out. As soon as I reach the vent, the scent hits me again like a brick wall. I can't help but feel Colt wanting to rise to the surface, screaming out for our mate. She's in danger! I can smell blood. Colt rages, pacing back and forth in my head. What? Who would do this? I answer back, both angry and heartbroken. I don't know, she is weak too, we need to move quick! I could hear the sorrow in Colts voice and my body shakes, fuelled by rage. How can someone hurt MY mate!? I let out a low growl, before I'm joined by Dylan and Dex. I look up at them, clearly angry at my mates state and the fact Dylan couldn't keep Dex away. Then I notice the panic set in Dex's eyes. He tries edging back slightly before his phone rings. He scurries off to take the call, leaving Dylan and I alone. I wanted to run after him and ask him what the hell is going on, but my mate is more important. "Where is she?" Dylan asks through the mind-link, trying to understand why I'm so angry. "The other side of this vent, and Colt says he can smell blood!" "OK man, let's find the door" he says calmly. We circle further round until we find the front door, it looks rather run down, with weeds piercing through the paving slabs and the number on the door hanging upside down by one screw. I waste no time and kick the door down, searching around the house for the room with the vent. To no avail after looking quickly through each room, they all seem empty and clean. The stillness within the house confused me, it was as if no one was actually here. I didn't understand why someone would keep inside so perfect but leave the outside untouched. Pulling me from my thoughts, "Here Jenson!" Dylan shouts. I run back through to the kitchen where a door stands tucked away behind the fridge. We pull it out the way and with one swift kick the door smashes from its hinges, folding in two before falling down into the dark room beneath. A sharp muffled scream fills my ears and I can sense the mixture of fear and panic eluding the dark . Then the scent hits me again... its her. My mate. She's here. _____________________________________________ {Kiera's P.O.V} I hadn't moved an inch since the incident. I didn't want to risk feeling so vulnerable again, so I stayed curled up in a ball, trying to stay warm while the water trickled past my left arm and pooled slightly beneath my feet. I thought about what had happened but I couldn't figure it out. Ripping me from my thoughts once more, the silence of the house was broken by a loud thud and stomping above me. It sounded like someone had broken in and was raiding the house. I sit there quietly, almost forgetting how to breath as I panic at the thought they could find me. A rush of awful visions plagued my mind as I thought about these people upstairs and what they would do with me. Then, I heard a dragging sound, followed by a violent crash accompanied by pieces of broken door falling down into the room. My hand flew to my face, muffling the involuntary scream that escaped my mouth. One stray tear fell down my cheek as I gripped my eyes closed shut. I held my breath as the panic set back in. My heart started beating 200 miles an hour, the chaos in my chest conflicted with the breath I was holding, making my head feel dizzy and weak. Then the smell of freshly chopped oak trees evaded my nostrils and like a drug my shoulders relaxed, the breath I had been holding slowly slipped from my mouth and the warmth seemed to pass my lips in slow motion. I opened my eyes and looked up. I was met by a dark shadowed figure, crouched before me. The light ribboned in through the kitchen door, filling the room with enough light for me to make out the silhouettes of two people. But, I wasn't scared. I felt familiar. I felt safe. The man crouched before me reached his right arm out and touched my jaw with his index finger and thumb, tilting my head to look at him in the eyes. "Hi, I'm Jenson." he said with the most calming tone I've ever heard. His voice was deep and he spoke with such confidence. I just stare at him and slowly reach my tiny hand out and place it on his enormous chest. I feel the instant warmth of his body on my palm but don't speak. As I look up at him, I notice he has shiny black hair; short but enough to brush back with his fingers. His eyes are bright blue and welcoming. Through the dark, I can make out he has tattoos going up his neck and I wonder what he looks like under his shirt. "I'm here to take you home, if you'll let me." Home? What does he mean? My home... his home? Maybe I'm dreaming? I just stare at him and nod slightly, unable to speak, where ever 'home' is, its got to be better than this... right? He slowly takes my hand and leads me out of the basement. I look around at the destruction and nervously peek around the corner anticipating Dex's disapproval. But, he is no where to be seen. As if he notices, Jenson picks me up bridal style, "Its ok, I've got you now. No one can hurt you". He carries me outside and around the front where a black SUV waits. The other guy opens the door and Jenson gets in, holding me close, not letting go of me once. The door closed behind us and the other guy gets in and starts driving. "Where are we going?" I ask him softly. "Back to my home, so you can get some rest". He says calm and collected. I lean my head into his chest and close my eyes. How can someone I just met, make me feel so safe and loved so quickly? Without anymore thought, I drift off to sleep, embraced by his warmth.
