I made it back to class just as the bell rang. “Ms. Johnson, may I see you for a moment.” Mr.walterburg called. I look at Brielle in confusion, and she looks just as confused. “You may head to your next class, Ms. Parker, your friend will meet you soon.” He said dismissively. Brielle gave me one more look before heading to the next class. I turned towards mr.walterburg, and he set my exam on the side of his desk closest to me and pointed to the packet. “Ms.Johnson did you want to set a makeup test for after school, or did you want to take the grade deduction?” He asked “I’m sorry, I’m not understanding.” I said while looking between him and the exam. He then flips to the blank back side. That I know I had completed before leaving the classroom. I shake my head and look at mr.walterburg. “I promise, I completed the exam before leaving mr.walterburg. Let me go to my locker. I have the scratch paper to prove it.” I say, trying to keep my shocked emotion from cracking my voice. “Ms. Johnson, I have an exam starting soon, and my students need the same uninterrupted time that you got, so I’m just going to schedule a make-up exam for this afternoon. If you have the worksheet, it won’t take more than a few minutes to complete it, yeah?” I open my mouth and close it several times before I just nod. It was irritating to have to stay after school to redo something I had already done, but he’s right it won’t take long, and I would rather redo the test than take a grade deduction. He scheduled me to do the makeup exam, told me the room number, and wrote me a pass for my next teacher. to which I promptly left with. After school, we were at the local teen convention center. It wasn’t much at first, but over the years of mementos and graduates, giving donations is now full of art, computers, and sports equipment. Pictures and quotes from past teens covered the walls. Bean bags and couches filled the library that was next door to the room where school clubs met. during this past week, it was a battle room for all the students and tutors trying to prepare for the exam. Vivian, brielle, and i sat on the bleachers outside, waiting for Vivian's mom to pick them up since my exam wasn’t for another hour. I spent the time with them. Eventually, Ryan came walking up. Vivian's attention was pulled from a muffled heated phone call, and found him quickly before she jumped up to hug him. “Hey baby, how were exams?” She asked and kissed him on the cheek. “Easiest flunk I’d ever taken.” He jokes but gets a playful hit to the shoulder as a response. he pretends to be hurt before turning to Brielle and I “Hey you guys, nice to see you again.” He says while holding Vivian close to him. I could sigh. Ryan was a known playboy before meeting Vivian. Now, he looks like he’s ready to stand on the altar. I still made it a point to explicitly tell him how fast I will find a replacement that will have her toes curled by the day's end if he ever thinks about cheating on her. But i ship them for now. Suddenly, A guy appears from behind Ryan, and my heart stops as i took him in. standing there with his deep, warm brown eyes almost being touched by his hair that was a sexy curly wavy pattern, looking different than i remembered in his black graphic drawstring hoodie that failed his broad shoulders. Ryan caught on to us looking behind him and turned. “Oh yeah, I almost got it. This is my cousin, Maxwell-“ “We know him.” I interrupt, fear, and anger welling up inside me as I fully take in my ex. Why is he back in town? If he’s Ryan’s cousin, then does that mean… Maxwell looked like he had just got slapped by my reaction and waved nervously. “Hello, again.” He said, his deep voice causing my body to betray my initial anger. He looked so damn good, I would want nothing more than to let my dirty thoughts win. But this carved statue was not as good as he seemed. He was danger. Ryan looked at Maxwell, who is avoiding my gaze and receiving hugs from Vivian and Brielle. then back to me, who probably looked like she was going to explode. Vivian and brielle just don’t understand why we broke up in the first place, growing up in a small town. It's not a common thing amongst couples. We all knew each other from a young age, so Maxwell and I were childhood sweethearts. Until that night, that changed everything. “How do you guys know each other?” Ryan asked hesitantly. Maxwell looked at his cousin with a sad expression. “I grew up in this town. These were my closest friends before my parents passed.” He glanced at me when he indirectly explain why he disappeared. Not wanting to be swayed I get up to head to my after school exam hoping I can finish it early and go home, it’s my night to cook and knowing my brother, if I take too long he will eat up the snack stash. “Amelia, wait.” Maxwell said, trying to stop me from leaving, but I stormed towards the school building across the street.
