Chapter 6

2674 Words
Sabrina Meyers (POV) Time is running too fast. Today marks my second month of marriage with Caden. Through the month, I was able to know him more. Caden Stewart, or my husband is not bad at all. His personality is different from all those articles that I've read about him before our marriage. I even see him differently now that I'm with him and even thought of saying thanks to my father for helping me choose this decision. For the last weeks, Caden spent his time with me. He even asked me out for a date although he said that it doesn't mean anything. It's just a friendly date. And I as one don't care what kind of date it was. As long as we are both happy, that's fine with me. After our so-called friendly date, he asked me to accompany him in his tour to Greece. We stayed there for four days. I would be lying if I'll say that I didn't enjoy his company. We came to that so-called "knowing each other" stage. But me as Sabrina didn't say more about myself. Despite the fact that he's being nice to me, I still cannot give him all the trust he needs from me. The way he treats me is not an assurance that I can let all my defenses down. There is something inside me, telling me that everything is just for a moment. I shake my head, allowing those memories leave my head. I push myself out of my bed and headed to the bathroom to do my usual morning routine. Thanks goodness it's Sunday. I can go out and have some fun. I'll not be thinking too much about work. I'm still working at my fathers company but now, it's quite different because Caden replaced my father in his position. Since I am the only child of my dear parents, my father stepped down from his chair and let my husband take it. Now, my husband is my boss. After I'm done with my routine, I headed downstairs to have my breakfast. Magie greeted me cheerfully. "Hey, do you have any plans today?" she asks. "Yes, I'm planning to go to the mall." "Ah, great. I'll be seeing you coming home with plenty of paper bags in your hands." I laughed at what she told me. I wasn't expecting that from her. "Oh, do you want me to buy you something?" I asks. She just smiled at me. "I don't need anything. Just go and shop for yourself. Caden is giving us everything we need," she replied. I can see that. Caden is very generous when it comes to them. He always make sure that Magie and Roger has everything they need. Even if he is out for a business meeting or a trip for just two days just like today. Yes, Caden is in a business trip today. And from what he told me, he'll be back after two days. That's the shortest business trip he had since the day we became officially husband and wife. I'm really excited to see him. "Eh, you're smiling. Mind if you share me the reason why?" Magie asks. I look at her and smiled. "I'm just happy that despite the fact that this marriage is just arranged, Caden is good to me. I was expecting him to be more arrogant," I honestly replied to which she laughed. You can't blame me for thinking that way. I've read lots of books that talks about marriage contract and ended up sadly. Well, I also witness it myself. I've known women from wealthy family, suffering because of a contracted marriage. I could say that I'm just lucky to have Caden as my contract husband. "Everybody thinks that he is arrogant," says Magie that brought my senses back. I talked to her for a longer time until I finish my food. Once I'm done, I bid her goodbye. I just went back to my room and take my things before I headed out of the house. I immediately climbed into my car and drive off the street to the mall where I planned to spend my time. I was walking around the mall after I'm done shopping until I got bored and decided to go home. I was meters away from my car when I bumped into someone. All the paper bag I'm holding fell on the ground. Without even giving attention to the person I bumped, I immediately picked the paper bags on the floor. After I'm done, I look at the person and froze as soon as I recognized him. "Luke," I said. I can't believe it. After how many moths, I'm now standing in front of the man who pained me. A man I once loved and the man who give me sorrow. He smirked at me. "Sabrina, we finally meet again. How is your life?" he asks making me annoyed. How can he even say those words. I wonder if he already has an idea that I'm already married. If he read those articles about my marriage or if he did felt something like guilt or regret. "I'm very much fine." "Very much fine? Ah, I was not expecting that. I thought you'd be broken for what I did," he said shaking his head. "What do you expect me to do? To lose my sanity just because you cheated on me with that b***h woman?" I asked making him smile. "Ah, Ava? Ava is already out of my life. I just broke up with her after I realized that I'm still in love with you. Can you give me a chance to be with you again?" he said as if it's just normal to tell me those kind of things. In just a swift, my palm comes in contact with his left cheek. That attracts the attention of some people near us. I can hear them murmur. 'Ah, watch your move, remember who you are' reminds my brain. I didn't mind that reminder. "Women are not kind of a toy that you will just throw and then try to get it again after throwing it. Luke, stop being a bastard!" "Why, I didn't throw you. Remember, you are the one who give the ring back to me. If you only give me a chance to explain and change, we are now married today," he replied. It's time for me to smile. "Married? Luke, I'm already married with the man who treats me like a queen," I replied making his smile fade. He just stand there staring at me. I wanted to shout at him and tell him that the woman she once hurt is now happily married. I want him to realize his mistake. "Ah, so all those articles that talks about your marriage are all true?" he said. I see an emotion passes through his eyes. An emotion I was not expecting to see after all the things he has done for me. "Yes. All those are true," I replied to confirm it. "I'm late. Do you love him? Do you really love him?" he asks. I was taken aback by his words. I don't know how to answer his question. How can I tell him that my marriage with Caden is just an arrange marriage. "O-of course I love him. I love him that is why I agreed to marry him." He laughed after hearing my word. He walks closer to me until my back hit the car. He put his two hands on my side. Now, I'm cornered. "Don't play jokes with me Sabrina. Your eyes tells me the opposite. You are just with him because of the agreement his parents and your parents made," he whispers on my ear. I swallowed. How did he know about the agreement between my parents and Cadens parents. "Let go of me," I said. He didn't answer. He just stared at me and did the thing that I'm not expecting him to do. He leaned forward and kiss me on my lips. After realizing what he is actually doing, I pushed him as hard as I could and slap him. Without even glancing at him, I climbed into my car and immediately started the engine. I hear him laugh. How could that bastard act like nothing happened in the past. Caden Stewart (POV) I heaved a deep sigh after I ended the call with Sabrina. It has been two days since I came back from my business meeting. A part of me misses her so much. Until now, that I'm back in the office, I still miss her. "So, you are really trying to work your marriage huh?" says my friend Jake. "Yes, I am. Do you have any problem with that?" I replied as I sit back on my swivel chair. "Good. Anyway, how does it feel to have a wife? I'm sorry for not attending your wedding. I attended a very important meeting that day," he said. I do understand him. But, that was definitely fine with me. His parents attended my wedding in exchange of his absence. I shrugged my shoulder as an answer. "You know what? Try to find someone to talk to because I'm not interested talking to you," I replied. I knew him. Once I started talking and answering his questions, he'll throw me more of it. He always has something in his head. "Know what, you just don't want to talk about your married life. Are you falling for her now?" he asks that made me think. "Falling for who? Come on, don't let me laugh at your joke," I replied. Honestly, I don't know how to answer his question. I actually don't know how to describe the feeling I have for my wife. Fo the past months that we've been together, I did nothing but to provide her everything that made her happy. I tried to treat her like a queen she is. "Yah right, what a joke from me," Jake replied that made me look at him. "Not funny. I will never fall for her. She's a woman. I cannot trust her just like that," I replied. He just let out a laugh. He glanced at his wrist watch and look back at me. "Anyway, I have to go. I still have a date. Just came to see my married friend," he said instead. "Oh, touching but I know that you just want to ask me about my wife. Go on, no one is going to stop you." "Damn man, thank you for showing your appreciation. I will keep that forever," he sarcastically said before turning on his heel. I hit him by his arm using the pen that I was holding. I watch as he walks out of my office. I glance at my wrist watch only to see that it's already six in the evening. I hit my forehead as I remember my promise to Sabrina. I promised to fetch her at her office. I put all the papers on my briefcase and hurried out of my office. I saw my secretary fixing her table. "Why are you still here?" "I tried to finish the papers you give me a while ago sir," she replied. "Come on, You can do that tomorrow. I'll just see you tomorrow Karen, Take care, " I replied before I walked towards the elevator. "Same to you sir!" she yelled. It took me thirty minutes to reach the Meyer's company. I entered the building with my usual serious face and authoritative act. All attentions were on me as the door swung shut behind me. I stepped towards the receptionist and asked if Sabrina is still in her office. "Yes sir, she's been waiting for you arrival sir," the receptionist replied. My legs took me towards the elevator and find the way towards Sabrina's office floor. I walk pass the desk of her secretary who just nodded at me. Without knocking at her office door, I barged inside her office. She looked up at me as the door swung open and a small smile was formed on her lips. "Hey, sorry if I'm late. I was too busy not to notice the time. Jake came to my office too," I apologize as I walk towards her and kissed her on her forehead. "It's okay. I'll fix my things first, give me a minute," she replied as she stands up from her seat. I watch as she put some papers on her briefcase. It took her almost five minutes to finish what she was doing. "Do you always do this?" I asked as I leaned at the side of her desk and played with the pen I picked from her desk. "Do what?" she replied, still busy with what she's doing. "Bringing your work at home?" "Ah, no. Just for tonight. There's this deal I needed to close and that's what is in some of this papers," she replied as she closed her briefcase. I just nodded as an answer. She sidestepped her desk and pick her purse from where she placed it. I'm not still moving from where I'm standing. When she got her purse, she lifted the briefcase from the top of her desk but I took it away from her. "Ah, thank you," she said as she shows her white teeth. I walked behind her as we find our way out of her office. I flipped off the lights as we left her office. We were talking about the next activity of my company while waiting for the elevator. "Well, congrats then. You really closed a lot of deals lately," she said. I was about to say something when the elevator arrived. I was talking about the company's progress until we reach our destination. "How was your day, anyway?" I asked as we reach my car. "Well, it's good as ever," she replied. I nodded and started the engine before I drive off the street. Strange feelings filled the the air as we are in the middle of the ride. We barely talk but the strong attraction is there. I was talking about the deal I tried to close this day but I didn't receive any reponse from her. I turn to glance at her only to find her sleeping. She's leaning at the car window while a strand of her hair is falling at the side of her face. I carried her out of my car the time we reach the house. "Oh, she's tired," says Magie as she saw me carrying Sabrina towards my room. "Yeah, that's what I thought. I didn't bother to wake her up." I laid her down on the bed delicately not wanting to disturb her from her deep slumber. I tucked a strand of her hair that is on the side of her face. I heaved a deep sigh as I watch her in her peaceful sleep. I took off her shoes and put the blanket on. When I'm done, I went to the bathroom to have a cold shower. "Lu-luke, please... Please what did I do?" I hear her say as I came out from the bathroom. I saw her tears falling down her cheeks. My heart melt at the sight of her crying for someone I really don't know. I waited for her to say something again but never hear anything. I just made sure that she has fallen deep before I walked towards the closet and change into something comfortable. When I'm done, I jump into the bed. I was about to close my eyes when I hear my phone ringing which is on the bedside table. My brows furrowed when I saw the number was not registered. "Hello." "Caden," says the person on the other line that made me froze on the spot. I know that voice. The voice that I'd been missing. Now that I heard that voice, I don't feel the same feeling anymore. "Raine," was all I said. @Marcela Francisa
