Catalina
We came home the same day. We got home pretty late. Bianca was dropped off at her house. Her belongings were taken out the next morning. I didn't talk to anyone for five days. Mrs. Hernandez came to spend time with me every day but I was just not in the mood for it. I didn't want to tell her what her son did but I bet she can imagine. Adriano crossed a line and I didn't know what to do to fix it. Could I fix it? Did I want to? I was lost in this mess. I wanted to hurt Adriano but I also wanted him to comfort me. I wanted him to come to me and declare his love. I wanted him to tell me he loved me and he was sorry. I wanted him to tell me he would never do it again. He would honor me and be faithful to me until his last breath. I wanted him to let us be happy. He can tell me he made a mistake all he wants but he did this. He knew what he was doing. He knew he was playing with fire. He probably thought I was the one that was going to get burned but we both did.
"Are you coming downstairs today?" Adriano finally came to my room.
"No," I said harshly. "I want you to leave me alone."
"Catalina, I will not play this game with you," he said. "You are still my wife and you must ob-."
"OBEY YOU!" I yelled. "You want me to OBEY you. You want me to FEAR you," I mocked. "I don't fear you. I pity you and this stupid life you live. You will never find true happiness because you are a selfish i***t. You get in your own way. Why? because of pride and honor." Adriano came towards me and gripped my throat.
"You don't know anything and if you want me to make you FEAR ME. Then I will give you a reason to FEAR ME," he said roughly. He stormed out of my room and slammed the door shut behind him.
Two Weeks Later
I was walking the garden and looking at all the beautiful flowers that had just bloomed.
"Still not speaking to that i***t son of mine?" Celina asked.
"I can't," I told her. "It hurts too much."
"I know but sometimes you have to dig deep and find that courage to try again. You love him enough to try?"
"I want to believe so," I said. "I just don't know how to move past everything."
"One step at a time," Celina said.
"One step at a time," I repeated.
Celina walked away and left me to my thoughts.
"Catalina," Adriano called.
"What is it?" I said harshly. I felt my blood boil. I couldn't help getting angry at him.
"We need to talk," he said plainly.
"You made a mistake, I know,"
"Damn it, Catalina, I am sorry," he said. "I am sorry. It has been a long time since I have said those words."
"So, am I," I said.
"Lina," he said softly. "I don't know what to say or do but I made a mistake. I don't remember anything but waking up to your screams. I didn't want to sleep with her."
"You have never gotten blackout drunk before," I said.
"I know but I was angry. Seeing you with Vicente and then you left with him," Adriano explained.
"That doesn't make any of this right," I said. "You could have come to me, you could have taken me away from him."
"I am tired," Adriano said softly. "I am tired of all of this."
"Adriano,"
"I don't want to fight with my brother for your affection. You are mine. You have always been mine. After so many years, after so many years of seeing you. Actually seeing you and wanting you," he said. "I have always wanted you." He closed the space between us and grabbed the back of my head. He kissed me passionately and longingly.
"Adriano, wait," I said.
"What is it?"
"I want to be sure you are going to let this happen," I said. "Let us be happy."
"I want us to be happy, if I ever found any moment of happiness in these last months, it has been by your side," he said. He held my hands in his. "I want all of this to be over with."
"What about my father?" I asked.
"I don't trust him," Adriano said. "I won't ever trust him. I can't set him free."
"Adriano, I don't want you to set him free. He used to,"
"What is it?" he asked. "Tell me."
"He used to hurt me and my mother," I admitted. "I don't want him free but I need to know what happened to my mother."
"I will torture him until he sings like a canary," he said. "I will find her if she is still alive." My heart skipped a beat. There was a chance she could be dead but I never wanted to think about it. I didn't want to think that my father could be that cruel.
"Adriano,"
"Yes,"
"I love you," he smiled.
"Oh, Lina, I do love you," he said softly. If I wasn't this close I wouldn't have heard him. "And I won't let you down again."
We spent the next day out and about. He took me shopping and then we had dinner together. It was nice but strange to be acting like a normal couple. He was anything but normal. We had nice sweet moments and then we had hot romantic passionate nights. It was everything I have ever wanted. He was everything I have ever wanted.
A Week Later
"Miss you can't just barge in here," I heard a servant say. "MISS!"
"Where is he?" Bianca shouted. "WHERE IS ADRIANO!"
"At work," I replied harshly.
"He isn't answering his phone or replying back to my text, I don't know what you did or said to him but he needs to own up to this," she said.
"Own up to what?" I asked. She suddenly pulled out something from her purse. It was sonogram pictures. "Oh my god, your pregnant."
