CHAPTER 1: A Start of Broken Life
Chapter 1: A Start of Broken Life
Ethan walked toward Olivia’s apartment, his heart pounding with nervous excitement. He adjusted his grip on the bouquet of red roses, inhaling their sweet fragrance as if they carried the promise of his future. In his other hand, he held a small velvet box, the engagement ring inside shimmering under the streetlights. Tonight was the night. The night he would ask Olivia to be his forever.
As he reached her door, he hesitated for a brief moment, smoothing out his shirt and taking a deep breath. His fingers curled around the doorknob—it was unlocked. A small frown creased his forehead, but he dismissed it. Maybe she was expecting him.
The moment he stepped inside, laughter echoed from the living room—Olivia’s laughter, light and familiar. But then, a second voice followed. A man’s voice.
“You know you love this more than that boring boyfriend of yours.”
Ethan froze. His blood ran cold.
Olivia’s giggle was soft, almost teasing. “Stop it! Ethan might find out.”
His grip on the roses tightened until the stems dug into his palm. His mind screamed at him to turn around, to leave before the truth shattered his heart completely. But his body betrayed him, urging him forward, step by agonizing step.
As he reached the doorway, his world came crashing down. Olivia was there, wrapped in the arms of another man. Her fingers trailed along his chest, her smile the same one Ethan thought was meant only for him.
His breath caught in his throat. His chest ached as if someone had driven a knife through it.
“No…” The word slipped from his lips, barely above a whisper.
Olivia’s gaze lifted, locking onto his. Her eyes widened in horror as she pulled away from the man, stumbling slightly. “Ethan… I-I can explain!”
Ethan stood frozen. His entire future—every dream, every plan, every moment he had envisioned—was torn apart in an instant.
He took a step back. Then another. The bouquet fell from his grasp, petals scattering across the floor like remnants of a love that never truly existed.
The engagement ring slipped from his fingers next, landing with a hollow clink.
Without a word, he turned around and walked away.
Olivia’s voice followed him, desperate and pleading, but he didn’t stop. He couldn’t.
Because the woman he loved was gone.
And in her place stood a stranger.
