🌟 CHAPTER ONE 🌟
The chirping of birds and the early crowing of the roosters in the early morning seemed to have no effect on Jane as she continued to sleep.
But her peaceful slumber was soon interrupted by a heavy tap on her thigh. "Isn't it high time you get out of bed and go to give your brothers thier food ?. You know they would be expecting you by now, and I wouldn't want them to use that as an excuse to give up on thier respective job".
Jane aunt said to her as she pulled opened the curtains, allowing the morning sunlight to flood into her sparsely furnished room with it poorly structured interior.
Jane stirred, her eyes fluttering open as she registered her aunt's presence.
"Morning, Aunt Mary" she mumbled, her voice still thick with sleep. "Good morning dear" Aunt Mary replied "Rise and shine your brothers will be expecting breakfast soon" she added.
Jane groaned, burying her face in her pillow "Can't I sleep a little longer? I'm so tired after yesterday activities". Aunt Mary chuckled as she opens the door, "you should be out here in the next five min because I'm set to leave for shop soon"
Jane slowly made her way out of bed, she shuffled across the creaky floor boards of thier poorly furnished three bedroom bungalow. The peeling wallpaper and threadbare carpet spoke of years of neglect. But Jane paid little attention as she made her way to the kitchen. Jane, the youngest and only daughter in her mid-twenties, possessed striking beauty, a curvaceous figure, and fair complexion.
As Jane began to pack the food her aunt had prepared, three coolers neatly tucked into a polythene bag. she couldn't help but smile at the thought of her brothers. Each had their own quirks, and being the only girl among them added a special dynamic to their family bond. Despite the challenges they faced after the loss of their mother, Jane felt grateful for her aunt's unwavering care and the sense of belonging she provided, not just for Jane, but also for her brothers, Joshua and John and took them as her children and she never treated them differently from her own son Tony.
She sighed to herself, realizing she forgot to return Mark's key. With a sense of urgency, she hurried to retrieve it before he arrived at her aunt's shop. She swiftly grabbed the key and dashed out, clutching it along with the polythene bag. The day before, Jane had borrowed the key from Mark, who ran a cleaning service, to fetch some cleaning supplies for her occasional assistance to her brothers and aunts with their own cleaning endeavors.
Upon arrival, she spotted Mark standing at his doorstep, visibly agitated. She sensed his frustration as she approached him with a somber expression. "Oh, Mark, I apologize for leaving without returning the key. I got caught up and it slipped my mind," she lamented. Mark's demeanor softened as he replied, "No worries at all." He then flashed a sly grin and added, "Why don't you come in and join me for a chat?" With a firm grip on her waist, he drew her closer. She recoiled slightly, shooting him an irritated glance. "What was that for?" she demanded. Mark's tone grew accusatory as he retorted, "Don't you think you owe me for making me wait out here?" Anger simmered in his voice as he raised his voice.
"Do not overstep your boundaries with me, Mark," she warned sternly, wagging a finger at him. "I've warned you countless times about flirting with me. Must I involve my brothers to make it clear?" Mark retorted, "Perhaps you should." With a resigned sigh, she turned away from him without a backward glance, quickening her pace as she set off on her own path.
Jane brothers and her cousin Tony, worked at a construction site. Sometimes, they had to work overnight. Their aunt's close friend had secured the job for them because she disliked their idleness.
Spotting Jane from a distance, her immediate elder brother John's impatient voice rang out, "Will you hurry up and get down here? It feels like you're taking an eternity! We'll have traveled the entire universe before you bring food!" His urgent plea highlighted his hunger and the lengthy hours they spent working.
"Hey, keep your high-toned voice to yourself and stay calm," replied Jane as she approached where they were all seated. "You all should be thanking me. I'm here to fend for you," she added.
Tony quickly grabbed the bag from her without paying attention to her words and began to open it to take out the first cooler. However, he felt a hard tap on the back of his head from Joshua, his elder cousin, and Jane's elder brother.
"Wouldn't it be polite to let me pick mine first? You lack respect for your elders," Joshua scolded.
"Brother, you have to select yours carefully because it seems this girl has already eaten the most and packed the leftover for us," said John, as Joshua started to bring the coolers out of the bag.
""But why did you take so much time to come here?" Tony asked as he picked his own cooler to eat and ushered Jane to sit beside him. She explained the incident that transpired between her and Mark, recounting how he flirted with her.
"What?" Joshua exclaimed. "Why would he try such a thing with you? Is he out of his senses?"
"Imagine the audacity, telling her to go call her brothers," Tony said, shaking his head.
"It would have been nice if you had given him a dirty slap and then come here to ask for our help instead," John suggested.
"Oh, you mean after you're done eating that cooler of food in front of you? Because you know how you shouted at me even without reaching there. Now, imagine me telling you to come help fight someone with your hungry stomach," Jane retorted.
"He would just return you back to Mark with a big slap," Tony replied, laughing.
"Don't mind him, Jane. I'll make sure to give him a piece of my mind when I'm on my way home," Joshua assured her.
"Bro, let's face it. Mark's only messing with our sister because he thinks we're easy targets," John mused.
"Weak? Us? Come on, imagine Big Brother backing us up. Mark wouldn't dare," Tony scoffed.
John gestured, emphasizing, "I'm talking about our lack of cash. With money, Mark wouldn't even glance our way."
"We gotta hustle, support Auntie, and hope for a breakthrough," Joshua chimed in.
"Man, I'm beat. This gig is killing me," Tony lamented.
"I'm with you. Let's find a better hustle," John suggested.
Jane chimed in, "Don't disrespect Auntie's efforts. And leave Joshua out of your schemes."
John playfully threatened, "Watch it, or I'll knock some sense into you."
"Try me," Jane challenged, dodging a stone John tossed childishly.
Joshua intervened, "C'mon, show some respect."
Jane, annoyed, packed up. John then asked for a favor, softening his tone, "Can you swing by Felicia's?"
"After all that bullying? Seriously?" Jane retorted.
"Sorry, sis. My bad. Will you help?" John pleaded, putting his arm around her.
"Fine, I'll say hi if she stops by," Jane relented, leaving with the bag.
"Keep an eye out for Mark," Joshua called after her.

In the heart of the bustling city, where skyscrapers reached for the heavens and the pulse of life thrummed through the streets, there sat a young woman of elegance and refinement in her meticulously arranged office. She possessed the same striking features and radiant complexion as Jane.
Surrounded by the opulence of her surroundings, the office exuded an air of sophistication, with sleek furnishings and polished interiors reflecting the high-class status of its occupant. Before her stood a group of attentive staff, poised to present their reports on the past works they had diligently undertaken.
With a regal nod of her head, she urged them to proceed, her voice carrying the weight of authority yet tempered with a kindness that endeared her to all who worked under her. As the meeting drew to a close, a figure approached-a young man of undeniable charm and wealth, whose presence commanded attention.
With a teasing grin and a playful nickname, he greeted her, his smooth words causing a flutter in her heart. "Hello, Gorgeous," he teased, his eyes sparkling with mischief. "I can see you've been working hard."
She met his gaze with a soft smile, "Thank you, Seth," she replied, her voice tinged with warmth. "But I still have much to attend to here.
"Come on, Mabel, you have to eat something," Seth persisted, asking her out for lunch, his charismatic charm shining through as he urged her to take a break and join him for dinner.
"We can do this some other time, you know," she gently refused, her determination unwavering. But Seth's sincerity and unwavering persistence slowly wore down her defenses.
"Oh, okay, you win this time," she conceded with a playful smile, raising her hands in mock surrender. "But only for a while," she added with a wink, unable to resist his charming persuasion.
