Chapter 11 Time seemed to go around in circles. Usually, I could keep busy and the shift would be over in no time. But today, I spent most of my time hiding out in the office. I felt sick every time someone looked at me. Then the other team came in mid-morning for handover, and there was nowhere left to hide. I cringed when I heard the exclamations of, “What on earth happened here?” and “Who was the numpty that dug up the concrete?” followed by lots of gesturing in my direction. Corporal Thompson brought the incident up during the handover meeting and reminded everyone to keep the forklift tines low, to keep a clear line of sight, but not too low.
