Wake Up

Cassie’s POV:

We got to the hospital and he was rushed to a trauma center and they started surgery on him immediately. His condition was actually really critical and I wondered what could have caused him to be injured like that. I mean, he was a werewolf when I saw him, that means whoever or whatever did this to him did it while he was a wolf. For someone or something to hurt a wolf that bad, it must be something really dangerous. Could it be another wolf?

A nurse came back and told us he was stable now but he still hadn’t woken up, apparently he had great shock and was in coma. I immediately felt uneasy after hearing this. After a while Luke was beginning to feel sleepy. I went to tell the nurse we would be leaving and that I would come back the next. Then we went back home.

The next day after work I went to visit the guy in the hospital again, but he was still in coma. I didn’t know why but I felt drawn to him. Like I had a connection with him. I really didn’t understand it so I decided that I needed to ask him, so everyday since then I left work at the cafe early to visit him in the hospital before I went to the library.

One day as I was about to leave work my best friend Evelyn stopped me because she had already began to get suspicious.

“ You’ve been leaving work really early nowadays? Is everything alright “, she asked me

“ Yeah everything is great, why would anything be wrong. It’s fine, I’m fine, everything is fine “, I said then gave a weird smile. I obviously didn’t do a good job hiding this.

“ You’re hiding something “, she said immediately.

“ Me? No…. Why? “, I asked still acting weird

“ Oh my God! Are you seeing someone? “, Evelyn squealed with so much excitement. Everyone in the coffee shop turned back to look at us.

“ Sorry “, she said then dragged me to a corner that was a little more private. “ So tell me everything. Are you really seeing someone? “. I was still a little shocked, and why was that what she decided on, if I was seeing someone.

I didn’t know what to say to her, but I definitely couldn’t tell her I saw a werewolf in the woods, and that I rescued and took him to the hospital. And that I had been going to visit him everyday since then so I said, “ Yes, I’m seeing someone “.

On getting to the hospital the doctor rushed to me quickly and asked me if I knew any suitable donor for him, probably anyone from his family. Turns out they did a scan and found out he had ruptured kidneys. But I didn’t know this guy and I definitely didn’t know anyone from his family. For all we know he doesn’t have the same kidney as normal humans do.

“ Hello miss, do you? “, the doctor asked snapping me out of my little daydream.

“ What? “, I asked confused.

“ Do you know a suitable donor? “, the doctor asked again.

“ Oh no, no I don’t. “, I stuttered. “ I just met him, I don’t know any of his family “.

The doctor gave a worried look and proceeded to go back and that’s when I said one of the dumbest things I had ever said.

“ Can I donate? “

The doctor looked back at me, “ you said you just met this guy, are you sure you’ll be willing to donate your kidney for him? “, she asked.

I know it seemed stupid but I really felt a very deep connection towards him so I said “ Yes, yes I do “.

‘The doctor took a deep breath, “ Alright, we’ll run some tests on you to see if you’re compatible “

She called a nurse and told her to prep me for the test.

I couldn’t believe what I was about to do, give my kidney out for a guy I didn’t know. They did a couple of test on me and said they were waiting to get the results from his to see if we were compatible.

I laid down on a bed in a room and waited for the results. The doctor finally came. “ We did a couple of test on him to check if he was compatible with you. But his results, we’ve never seen anything like that “, the doctor said.

I was scared this would happen and it did. I thought Luke said there wouldn’t be any complications like this. Why did I believe him? He hadn’t actually met a werewolf and he definitely couldn’t know everything about them from his podcasts.

“ Are you sure it’s the right test? “, I asked the doctors.

“ Yes, we’re certain “, the doctor said.

“ Asides from that with his ruptured kidney he doesn’t have much time “, the doctor said.

This made my heart skip a beat. “ Please run another test, something must have gone wrong “, I said

“Please doctor “, I interrupted the doctor as I quickly moved close to her from my bed.

“ Alright, we’ll run another test “, the doctor said.

I watched as the doctor walked away. “ Can I see him? “, I asked one of the nurses.

He was still asleep, seeing him like that was painful to watch. The nurse said his heart rate was normal and that he should have been awake by now, but they didn’t understand why he hadn’t. The nurse left, but I remained in the room. I grabbed his hand and held it tightly.

“ Please wake up “, I said looking at him as he slept. I needed to know why I felt that way and he was the only one that could answer it.

The doctor came back in the room with two nurses and said they wanted to run an MRI scan for him again. They put him on one of those beds with wheels then took him out of the room to where they would do the MRI.

After a while the doctor and nurses came back to the room with him and there was shock in their eyes.

“ His kidneys appears to be fine , the doctor said.

“ What? How? “, I asked shocked, and that’s when it occurred to me that it was probably his healing abilities.

“ We don’t know “, the doctor said sounding shocked. “ Maybe there was a mistake with the last scan or a miracle happened but he appears to be fine now “, he finished.

“ So will he wake up soon? “, I asked. I was so happy to hear this, since he’s healing again he should probably wake up soon.

“ We can’t say, but he should “, the doctor said.

They took him back to his bed. I called Evelyn to help me check up on Luke and stayed in the hospital with him. Of course she asked how my date was going and I said fine.

I had fallen asleep on a chair close to his bed. A nurse came in and it woke me up, I checked the time and it was almost 10pm.

“ Oh s**t, Luke “, I said remembering I forgot about him.

“ Maybe you should go home miss, it’s pretty late and you can always come back in the morning “, the nurse said to me.

“ I guess you’re right “, I grabbed my bag and headed for the door.

“ Where am I? “, a voice behind me asked. I turned back and it was him, he was awake.
