Damian’s POV:
I looked around her house, it was filled with things I had never seen before. I looked down and looking straight up at me was her younger brother; Luke who asked me a question that I could no longer remember. I was still trying to wrap my head at everything that was happening. Everything here was so strange. Music was coming out from a… box? And I could see other people and things through this weird screen.
‘ So what do you want to do today? ‘, Luke asked interrupting my thoughts.
I had no idea, normally I would train or attend meetings with my parent, but I had no idea of anything happening around here. There were things I had never seen so I didn’t know what to do with them. I was overwhelmed and just wanted to sit down to have more to time to process all this.
‘ Um ’, I said then chuckled a bit. ‘ I have no idea what you guys do over here, why don’t you show me around ’ I said to Luke.
Luke held his chin probably thinking if he had anything else to do, after a few second of think he said, ‘Hm, that sound like fun’.
‘ Alright then ’, I said back.
‘ So what do you want to know about first? ’, Luke asked.
I went to sit closer to him on the bouncy chair, ‘ Uhm okay I know what a car is now, but do you know how it works? ’, I asked.
‘ Technology? ’, he said as he gestured with his hands that wasn’t it obvious.
‘That’s the same thing Cassie said’, I said in slight frustration.
Luke began laughing then said, ‘ technology is a complex thing, I don’t fully understand what it is but we know it’s how cars move, it’s what makes the TV works, what ma- ’
‘ What’s a TV? ’, I interrupted him to ask.
‘ Today is going to be a long day ’, he said gently slamming his hand on his head.
He pointed to the thing that had people inside it, ‘ That’s a TV, well television set ’.
‘ Oh, can the people see us back ’, I asked.
He laughed, ‘ No ‘
‘ How about the one with the people inside that I can hear but can’t see? ’
‘ That’s a radio ’
After an hour of me pointing to different things and Luke telling me what those things were and explaining what some of them did he finally got tired.
‘ Okay this isn’t working, it’s thousands of generations from your time, so there’ll be millions of things to show you ’, Luke said.
He was right, I had forgotten half of the things he had shown me so it would actually be impossible to learn everything.
‘ Yeah true, sorry for wasting your time ’, I said. I was a little disappointed, I guess anyone in a place where he had no idea of the things there would probably be.
Luke stared at me for a while as he thought deeply about something, ‘ How about mind linking ’, he suggested
‘ Wow I’m surprised you know that, but how can mind linking help? ’, I asked him not expecting any answer. Mind linking is kind of like mind reading but not really. It’s done within wolves and most wolves use it to communicate.
‘ What if you used mind linking on me? ’, Luke said really excited.
I turned to reply and his brows were raised, he also made a weird smile with his mouth closed as he waited for my reply.
‘ Uhm ‘, I said as I tried to concentrate but his face was so distracting. I finally shook my head and continued, ‘ Mind linking can only be done between wolves ’
‘ But you’ve never done it to a human ’, he said. This boy was really stubborn. ‘ I heard it in our discord group that it really could be done on other people other than werewolves ’.
‘ What’s a discord ’
‘ See why you need this? ’, he asked as he gave me a look that screamed ‘really?’. ‘ Okay how do you understand other animals? ’, he asked again.
I never thought about it like that, I just thought we understood animals because we were part animals, as I thought about it, it really could be mind linking.
‘ Try to guess what I’m thinking about? ‘, Luke said.
‘ I don’t really think this wou- ‘
‘ Just try it ‘, he interrupted.
‘ Okay ’, I said. I took a deep breath and sat upright. I looked at Luke who’s eyes were closed. ‘ You know you’re not the one doing the mind reading right ’, I said to Luke and chuckled a bit.
‘ Oh right ’, he said then opened his eyes.
I took a deep breath and tried to read his mind.
‘ You know what, I’ll close my eyes too ’, he said distracting me. ‘ For dramatic effect ’, he said as he closed eyes back.
I screamed silently. ‘ Don’t make another sound ’, I said to him then laughed a bit.
I took a deep breath again and tried to concentrate. ‘ Uhmm you’re thinking about pizza ’, I said.
‘ Yes! ’, he screamed. ‘ I told you it would work ’.
‘ But how does this actually help my problem? ’, I asked.
‘ What’s pizza ’, Luke asked.
This was weird because I’m usually the one asking what something is. ‘ Pizza’s food ’, I said to him like it wasn’t something new.
He glared at me not trying to hide his excitement, he wore a wide smile with his eyes wide opened like he was waiting for me to figure something out and that was when I did. I knew what pizza was. I had never heard about it before but now I knew what it was because I linked minds with him. I linked minds with and saw something he already knew about so I automatically knew what it was too. This was great. Really great.
‘Yes! I know what pizza is’, I screamed in excitement as I jumped around.
Luke joined in. ‘ Yes! ‘.
‘ Now I can just mind link with you as you to think of anything I want to know about and I’ll automatically know it too’, I said still screaming in excited.
‘ No! ’, Luke screamed even louder and slowly landed back on the chair. ‘ That would be incredibly stressful and it’s practically impossible. I won’t always be with you ’, he continued.
I guess my great plan wasn’t as great as I thought it was, or wasn’t great at all.
‘ So what was your plan then? ’, I asked Luke.
‘ You mind link with me and check out everything I have ever known ‘, Luke said, his face was glowing and his excitement wasn’t hidden at all.
‘ What? ’, I asked in shock because what he just said was basically impossible.
‘ You enter my mind but rather than checking for just what I’m thinking about you check for everything I’ve ever thought of ’, he paused for a while, ‘ You’ll be knowing everything I know ’, he finally finished.
I didn’t know what to say, I couldn’t wrap my head around it. I had to think for like a minute.
‘ Is that even possible ’, I asked him.
‘ It should be ’, he replied fast.
‘ Okay if it is, I would know everything you do Luke ’, I said to him. It was a crazy and an impossible idea but if by some miracle it was possible I wouldn’t just know names of things, I would know about everything he knows, even things about Cassie.
‘ Hm, I didn’t think about it like that ’, he said then bit his lips.
‘ Exactly ’, I said. I was sure he was disappointed and I was too. I buried my back deeper into the bouncy chair and gave off a sigh.
‘ I guess I wou- ‘
‘ Do it ’, Luke interrupted quickly.
‘ Wait, what? ’
‘ Yeah, I’m still a little kid so I’ve not done much and I don’t really have any secrets, soooo, do it ’
‘ Luke how about things about Cassie? ’
‘ How about it? It’s really not a problem Damian. You can do it ’, he said. ‘ Unless you don’t want to ‘
Maybe I really didn’t want to, I thought about how it might damage my relationship with Cassie if she ever found out.
‘ You know won’t be able to communicate well with Cassie if you have to stop her every time to ask her what she’s talking about ’, he said as he stared at me then nodded his head.
‘ Why Cassie? ’, I asked, my voice a little broken.
‘ Come on, you guys just met but I see the way you stare at her ‘, he said.
I felt a little embarrassed, ‘ Lycans don’t feel for humans ’, I said defensively.
‘ Yeah sure ’, he said sarcastically.
Was it really that noticeable, how I stared at her. Well, she was beautiful and anyone would get lost in those sparkling blue eyes. I always had a tingly feeling whenever I was close to her, it felt like she was my mate but in Venula we were told Lycans could only have Lycan mates. Were we lied to or was this an exception. I shrugged off the thought and finally replied Luke.
‘ Okay, let’s do it ’, I said. I suddenly felt enthusiastic that it could work, this crazy plan could actually work.
Luke immediately went to sit on the floor, he gestured for me to do the same which I did. ‘ Remember you’re not trying to see what I’m thinking of, but you’re checking everything I’ve ever thought of ’
Not like his explanation would make it easier to do or anything but I replied and said, ‘ Got it ’.
We both closed our eyes. I tried to concentrate and began getting into something like a trance.
‘ Get yours now! ’, a man inside the TV screamed which distracted us.
‘ Sorry ’, Luke said as he stood up to turn it off.
He returned and sat back down, ‘ Go on ’, he said in a slow and dramatic way.
I squeezed my eyes shut and began entering the trance like state again, I opened my eyes again but this time everywhere was black.
I was inside Luke’s mind.
Different images started to pass by, images of wolves, TVs with people inside, some guys surrounding him, somethings I had no idea about and a lot of Cassie. Those were his memories. I had to take it all in. My eyes were wide open and the images began to move by faster, and faster and faster until all they looked like were very bright white light and then everything went black again.
‘ Damian! Damian! ’, a faded voice shouted as someone tried to raise me from the ground. I opened my eyes slowly and it was Luke, he looked blurry and kept shaking me to try and wake me up. I finally sat up then shook my head a little.
‘ So? Did it work? ’, Luke asked, he was so curious as he waited for my reply.
‘ I don’t know ’, I said which reduced his excitement a little.
‘ Oh, I know! ’, he said as he ran into his room to get somethings. He came back out with a bunch of stuffs.
‘What’s this?’, he asked as he placed something on his laps.
He hadn’t told me about it before but I knew what it was. ‘ A laptop? ‘
‘ Yes! ’, he squealed in joy.
‘ How about these? Who are there? ’, he asked raising two pictures.
‘ Mike Harris, and uhm… Mike from Magic Mike! ’
‘ Yes! ’, he squealed again. ‘ It worked ’.
‘ Didn’t Cassie tell you not to watch that movie? ’, I asked.
‘ Okay, you know too much ’, he said then put his finger on his lips which meant I shouldn’t tell her and then he laughed.
‘ Sure, I won’t tell ’, I winked and laughed back.
It actually worked, just like that I knew almost all I needed to about this place, a little too much though but still, I couldn’t hide my smile.
