Party Time!

Damian’s POV: I had been anticipating the day of the party ever since the invite and it finally came. ‘Alright, hurry up you guys. We don’t want to be late’, Cassie screamed from the living room. ‘It’s a party Cassie, we can’t be late’, Luke screamed back as he slapped his hand on his head. He looked at me, ‘She’s my sister but sometimes she’s just arghh’. I laughed, ‘I actually find it cute’, I said back to him. ‘That’s because you love her and also… eww’, he said putting on a bow tie. ‘You should tell her you know. She obviously feels the same way’ ‘I’m not sure, and I don’t want to make things weird’, I said. You’re really wearing a bow tie to the party?’, I asked then chuckled. ‘Hey, hey. I’ve been living in this planet for years, you just got here. I know what’s cool’, he said as he adjusted his tie in front of a mirror. ‘And besides Cassie got your clothes so she basically dressed you up’, he said then laughed. I laughed back, ‘Anything’s better than a bow tie little one’, I said then patted his head. He gave me a wicked stare which made me laugh more then I apologized. ‘Ding-dong’, the door bell went, I’ll get it Cassie screamed. ‘Who else would get it?’, Luke whispered to me which made me laugh. ‘Heyyyyyy!, you look gorgeous’, the person at the back of the door screamed to Cassie. It was Evelyn. I wasn’t really a fan of Evelyn, she was loud and always had something to ask whenever she saw me. And I had to act like I liked her because, well she’s Cassie’s best friend and Luke would kill me if I said I didn’t. ‘Evelyn!’, Luke screamed as he left the room to go show her his ‘cool’ bow tie. I looked in the mirror and I must say I looked quite dashing. It wasn’t anything fancy but I wore a black plaid shirt, a blue jeans and a white snickers, it fits me so well you’d be surprised I wasn’t there when she got it. I finally got ready then went into the living room to join them. Cassie and Evelyn were trying to talk but Luke was trying to impress Evelyn with his bow tie. She finally turned to him, ‘Sure your bow tie is cool’, she said. ‘Thanks’, he said as he slouched on the wall and raised his eye brow at her. ‘You look nice’, Cassie said to me. ‘You too’, I said to a with a smile on my face. She smiled back, we were kind of having a moment. ‘Come on people, let’s get going!’, Evelyn screamed clapping her hands. We all rushed out and headed for the door. Cassie locked the door and then we headed for the car. ‘Luke ran fast to open the door for Evelyn, gesturing for her to go in. ‘Why did you have to bring him?’, Evelyn asked Cassie. ‘Because his usual baby sitter is going to a party’, she replied then chuckled. ‘Oh that’s you by the way’, she finished. ‘I knew that’, she said as she angrily entered the car. Luke and I got in the back and then Cassie started driving. The ride to the party was short, but Luke’s attempts to impress Evelyn during the ride really slowed down time. We finally got to Jeff’s house. His house was really big. Cassie parked the car and then we headed for the door. There were few people hanging out outside, colorful lights passed through the window and loud music was playing. We got to the door and wow he had a door knocker, fancy. Cassie knocked on the door and Jeff opened the door. Loud music blasted through the door. ‘Cass, you came!’, he screamed. ‘Welcome you guys, come inside’. We went inside, ‘Feel at home you guys, he Luke’, he said as he bent down to turn to Luke. ‘Nice bow tie’, he finished. Luke turned to me, ‘See, I told you’, he said as he ran off. ‘Be careful Luke’, Cassie screamed as he ran through the people partying. ‘See you later Cassie’, Evelyn said as she applied lipstick to her already painted lips then left. ‘Keep an eye on Luke for me’, Cassie said to her before she left. I followed Cassie into the living room. People are packed into every corners, drinking from red cups, laughing, flirting, screaming to one another over the music, spilling drinks over what I’m sure are expensive couches and carpets. It felt great to be in a party where I didn’t have to seat throughout and listen to my parents talk with other clan leaders. Cassie greeted people as we made our way into the thick of things. Excitement fades into anxiety as reached the middle of the party. My thoughts began racing and I was clueless how I would navigate these people and their inevitable questions. Cassie seemed to sense how uncomfortable I was and put a gentle hand on the small of my back. ‘You alright?’, she asked. I became relaxed and my brain stopped it’s whirring. ‘Yeah, thanks’. I said then smiled at her. I stared down at Cassie, she stared back at me. We walk towards a table set up as a bar. ‘So you enjoying the party?’, I asked Cassie, I raised my voice a little because of the loud music. ‘I’m really not a party person. Last time I went for a party was in high school and it didn’t end so well. I had too much beer and ended up bumping into Vanessa Brid-‘, she finally looks up at me who wasn’t really understanding anything she was saying. ‘I’m babbling again, sorry’, she said then chuckled a lot. ‘I babble a lot’, she finished. ‘Sometimes’, I said then chuckled a bit. ‘So what happened after you bumped into Vanessa?’, I asked, we both laughed a little. We were talking and it was going well until Jeff showed up. ‘Hey Cassie’, he said to her shoving me a little and acting as if I were invincible. ‘You need some beer?’, he asked. ‘Uhm yeah’, she replied. ‘Nice, why don’t we go get some together’, he said. ‘Nah, I’ll get with Damian’, she replied, I couldn’t control my facial muscle from not smirking at him. ‘Come on Damian’, she grabbed two beers, handed one to me and then we left. I looked behind me and I could see Jeff was pissed. Cassie showed me around the house. Which did take a while because the house was really big. ‘And this’, she said as she flicked the light on in yet another room. This one is stacked from the floor to the ceiling with books. ‘Is the library’, she finished. ‘Oh wow’. I stare around the room but I wasn’t really shocked, the library in our palace in Venula was far bigger and and had more antique vibe and were definitely bigger and harder. Cassie looked at me and said, ‘Jeff always spend time here, he reads a lot. A little too much’. She took a sip of her beer. I finally swallowed my saliva and turned to Cassie, ‘You seem to know Jeff really well’, I said trying to sound casual but I sounded really far from it. ‘And from the way he’s been coming to meet you too, it seems like you guys have a past or something. So?’ ‘Whoa where did that come from?’, Cassie asked with her hands in the air a little. ‘I’m just saying. You seem to know his house really well and he has sort of been giving me a hard time since the first time we met, like you’re his or something’. She took a deep breath, ‘We used to date’, she finally let out. ‘Wow’, I said in surprise. But I was acting, I already knew. I linked minds with Luke, remember? I mean even if I didn’t link minds with Luke I’d have still figure it out, anyone would. He was with her a lot at some point in Luke’s memory but he just didn’t show up after a while and I didn’t know why. ‘I’m sorry I lied to you. I didn’t want to make things weird, and it really was a long time and just for a few months’, she said. I really appreciated her honesty, ‘It’s really not a problem. And thanks for telling me’, I said to her. ‘You cold?’, I asked her. ‘Not really’, she said but she was obviously lying. I took off my sweatshirt and put it on her, she used put it closer to herself and said thanks. She turned off the lights and lead me back out in the hallway. She looked at me smiling a little and asked, ‘Ever heard of beer pong?’. ‘Nope’, I said and I really didn’t know about it or have any memories from Luke about it given he’s a kid and this was probably his first party. ‘Come on’, she said as she held my hand and leads me back to the living room and then we went to the dining room. People were trying to toss a ping pong ball into a red cup and if they missed they have to chug the cup of beer. The rules seemed pretty straight forward. Cassie grabs a ball and mimics a throwing motion from me, ‘So remember, just be gentle and for me it’s all in the wrist’, she said. ‘Wow you sound like a pro player’, I said as I collected the ball from her and then we both laughed. ‘Not to brag but I was Miss Beer Pong in the party were I bumped into Vanessa’, she said. ‘Sounds like you’re trying to brag’, I said then we both laughed again. ‘Alright, you got this’, she said as she gave me a little room. I think she forgets I’m not a normal human and that I’m a werewolf, I could target a bird with an arrow miles away, I was pretty sure this was going to be a breeze. I shoot the ball towards the cup. A flash of white curves through the air, then lands in the cup with a little plop. A look at Cassie, smirking a little. ‘You’re a natural’, she said to me. The guy at the other side of the table takes a chug, then takes a shot. He missed. ‘Your turn again’, Cassie said to me. My second ball went in again. Then three , four, five, six and on and on. I couldn’t miss. The other team barely sinks any in our cups. They were obviously getting buzzed over there and we were basically still sober on our side. Cassie cheers me as I took the final toss and again, it went in. I couldn’t stop grinning. I could throw an arrow to an insect from miles away and my father still wouldn’t be proud of me but over here everyone cheered on as I sinked a toss. Evelyn who’s been watching my glorious ascent from the sidelines, challenges us to the next game. ‘Just you wait, we’re gonna kick you guys ass’, she trash talked from the other side of the table. ‘I’ve got a secret weapon in my team. He might wear a bow tie to a party but he can definitely sink in a ping pong ball’, she said. Wait, was she talking about Luke? His head couldn’t even reach the table. Luke joined her on the other side of the table, Evelyn got a chair for Luke to stand on and then he stood on it. ‘Let’s do this’, she said which began the game. Luke takes a toss and sinks it in his first try. Okay, wow. ‘What’d you expect from the younger brother of Miss Beer pong?’, Evelyn asked, screaming as she whooped for him. Cassie and I looked at each other in surprise and shock. ‘In your faces’, Luke yelled from the other side of the table. ‘Drink Cassie’, he screamed again. ‘I got it’, I said as I took the cup and drank for her. But it was on. Evelyn and Luke meant business but we weren’t here to play either. I dropped the cup back on the table and picked up a ball. ‘Let’s do this’.
