Cassie’s POV:
Did I just hear well? Did Damian just ask who Jeff was. Okay this was awkward. I didn’t know what to say. Jeff and I were in the past, and it was just for a really short time; so it’s really not that big a deal right? Sigh.
Considering what he did to me I tried not to consider him like an ex, but rather just a mistake I wish I never made.
‘Uhm Jeff? Jeff’s just a friend’, I finally replied him, I tried to sound as casual as I could.
I couldn’t believe I just lied to Damian. Just few days into knowing him and I had already started lying. But it technically wasn’t a lie, right? Who am I kidding, it was a big lie and it made me feel horrible. I wanted to tell him the truth but I couldn’t bring myself to do it. Telling him the truth about Jeff even though we have nothing going on now might be trouble.
‘Oh, okay’, he replied back, he looked a little bit relieved which made me feel even bad.
‘Yup’, I said with a broken voice. ‘Well goodnight then’, I went into my room.
‘Goodnight’, he said back.
I got to my room and changed to my PJs. I hurried my face in my pillow and couldn’t stop thinking of how I had just lied to Damian. I turned back up and wished I had said the truth but then I started thinking about how fun the previous day was and then I didn’t feel too bad anymore about the lie because it would have definitely ruined the day. After a lot of thinking I finally slept off.
The next day was pretty normal, I went out my room, Luke was preparing for school. I went to the kitchen to get some coffee, I met Damian there and he had made breakfast, and he cleaned up. He cleaned up! This guy is every girls dream. He noticed me standing by the door.
‘Hey, didn’t see you there. Good morning’, he said with a charming smile on his face.
He wore an apron, I don’t know why but it made me melt.
‘Hey, good morning’, I said trying to sound as charming as I could. ‘What are you doing there?’, I asked as if I couldn’t see that he made breakfast.
‘Well I made breakfast’, he replied sarcastically gesturing to the foods on the table. We both laughed a little.
‘Yeah I figured’, I said then chuckled a bit. ‘Just wanted to know why though’.
‘Well you made my day yesterday, I just thought I should re-do the favour’, he said.
‘I made your day?’, I asked.
‘Yeah you did’, he said then chuckled. ‘I haven’t had that much fun in like… forever’, he said then laughed. ‘So here is me redoing the favour’, he said as he handed me a plate of toasted bread and some eggs. ‘So just sit down and enjoy’, he finished.
Luke ran into the kitchen. ‘Breakfast, breakfast’, he screamed as he ran around.
‘Here you go’, Damian said as he gave him a plate of food too.
‘Thanks’, he said as he collected it quickly and rushed back to the living room.
‘Hmm, this is really nice’, I said as I took a bite of the toasted breads. And they really were.
‘The secret is the…’, he began.
‘Okayyyyy?’, I asked.
He began laughing. ‘There is no secret, I just made it normally’.
‘Oh’, I said then laughed too. ‘Well they’re really good’, I said again as I left to the living room.
‘Thank you’, he said behind me.
I was about to seat when the door bell rang.
‘I’ll get it, just sit down and enjoy your breakfast’, Damian said as he went over to the door.
He opened the door and when I saw who it was it made my heart skip a beat.
It was Jeff.
‘Hey, I’m here to see Cassie. Who are you?’, he asked rudely.
‘I’m Damian, Cassie’s friend. Who are you?’, he asked back sharply.
I could sense the tension between them so I quickly rushed over to the door, ‘I’ll take it from here’, I said as I placed my hand on Damian’s back.
‘What are you doing here Jeff?’, I asked.
I could literally feel Damian’s mood change at the mention of that name.
‘I just came to see you, it’s been a while’, Jeff said.
Damian left the door.
‘Well you’ve seen me, so goodbye’, I said sharply as I tried to close the door.
‘Hey hey hold on’, Jeff said as he held the door. ‘What did I do wrong?’, he asked.
‘Really Jeff?’, I huffed. ‘I have to prepare for work so I really don’t have time for this’, I said.
‘Alright, alright’, he replied with his hands in the air. ‘Well I’ll be having a party this weekend, I already told Evelyn to tell you, but I just thought it’d be better I do it myself’, he finished.
‘She already did and I’ll think about it’, I said as I tried to slam the door shut again.
He held the door again, ‘Hey your friend should come too’, he said referring to Damian.
‘He reall-‘
‘I’ll be there’, Damian interrupted.
‘Cool, see you guys this weekend’, he said with a weird smile and then he closed the door and left.
Great, now I had to be in a party hosted by my ex boyfriend with Damian, who I lied to that my ex boyfriend was just a friend. Oh my God!
I stood by the door with one hand on my head, thinking if there was anyway I could avoid that day.
‘Everything alright?’, Damian asked.
‘Yeah yeah yeah, everything’s good. I’m just wondering if you’d like being at that party I mean there would be Lou-‘
‘Don’t worry, I want to go’, Damian interrupted again.
‘Okayyyy. But what if we did something else that day?’, I asked.
‘Do you not want me to go?’, he asked.
‘No, no no no… why would you think that. Of course I want you to’, I said defensively.
‘Great then’, he said.
‘Yeah, great’, I said under my breath. He left to go back to the kitchen. ‘Just great’, I finished after he left.
I liked Damian but him being under the same roof with my ex that I lied about doesn’t mix well. And he already seems so invested in the party so I guess trying to talk him out or doing something else that day was out of it. There’s only one thing I can do.
‘I’m going to act sick on that day’, I said to Evelyn as I poured a cappuccino into a plastic cup.
She looked at me with a blank stare, that probably suggested I was sick, mentally.
‘No offense to your wonderful plan but, what in the world is that plan?’, she asked. ‘That’s got to be the worst idea I’ve heard, like in the gallery of bad ideas that idea would be- ‘
‘Okay, I get how bad it is’, I interrupted quickly. ‘But what can I doooo?’, I asked as I leaned on the coffee shop counter.
‘Only thing you can do’, she said with her face glowing. Oh no. It was going to be one of her ridiculous plan again.
‘Take Damian to the party and use him to make Jeff jealous’, she said with a wide and evil(I’m sure she intended it to be evil but it was nothing like that, more of creepy) smile on her face.
‘First off, Damian and I are just friends’, I said.
‘Well Jeff doesn’t know that’, she said back.
‘Also I told Damian Jeff was just a friend and not my ex, he might find out I lied if he comes to the party’, I whined.
‘Ohh, okayy you shouldn’t have done that’, she said to me.
‘I know!’, I screamed which called the attention of almost everyone at the cafe.
‘Sorry’, Evelyn and I whispered to all of them at the same time.
I let off a sigh, ‘Well I’m screwed’, I said.
‘Yeah, you kind of are’, Evelyn said as she took a muffin and had a bite. I gave her an angry stare. ‘Sorry’, she said with her mouth full.
I guess I would have to prevent Damian and Jeff from meeting each other throughout the night, or I could just act like I was sick even though Evelyn said it was a dumb idea. One way or another I had to stop that day from becoming a total disaster.
