Damian POV:
After I cleaned up I left the house to take a walk. I couldn’t stop thinking about what Cassie had said. I felt bad that she had to go through that and wished there was something I could do but painfully there wasn’t. Life really had been tough for her, she didn’t go for therapy or anything but she still managed to put on a smile everyday for her brother like she was alright.
I kept walking. I began hearing screams from a back alley. I rushed there to see what was happening. I saw two armed men and a man and his daughter shaking in fear, they were being mugged.
I ran quickly to try and stop them. As I got closer I noticed something really crazy. I recognized the little girl, I hadn’t seen her in my life but I recognized her because Luke had, it was Cassie. It was Cassie and her father, and they were getting mugged. Was this a memory of Cassie? But I never linked minds with Cassie, that means it was Luke’s. Does he see this frequently? I knew he’d probably know what happened that day but I didn’t think he thought about it a lot. One of the man tried to drag Cassie, her dad tried to stop him. The other guy pointed his gun towards Cassie’s dad.
‘No! Don’t!’, I screamed from where I was but they couldn’t hear me. It was as if I didn’t exist there. They couldn’t hear a thing I was screaming.
The gun went off.
‘Noooooo!’, I screamed at the top of my lungs.
‘Damian! Damian!’, a voice called out.
I sat up from the couch fast and made a quick gasp. It was just a dream.
I turned and saw Luke beside me, he was the one calling my name.
‘Hey what’s up buddy?’, I said to him.
‘Everything alright? Seems you were having a bad dream’, Luke said to me.
‘Yeah, seems so’.
‘What’s it about?’, he asked. He brought his face so close to mine as he waited for me to tell him.
‘It isn’t really a big deal man, was just thinking about uhmm…’, I said then paused a little. ‘Where I’m from, Venula’, I finished.
‘Oh, so you’re home sick’, Luke said.
I was not home sick, if anything I was glad to be away from home but before I could tell Luke that….
‘For real? You’re home sick?’, Cassie asked. She was hanging by her door side. Did she just wake up? Or had she been there when for a while because I really didn’t notice her.
‘No I’m not home sick’, I replied back.
‘So what were you dreaming about then?’, I asked.
Turns out she had been standing there for a while. I couldn’t tell her what I was dreaming about so I had to give in and said, ‘Okay fine, I’m a little home sick’. Luke and Cassie knew I left home for a reason but they didn’t know I left because of how badly I hate Venula and some of its people and I planned to keep it a secret from them, for now.
‘I’m free today, why don’t I show you around or we could go do something fun to take your mind off all this’, Cassie said. ‘Or whatever’, she added making some kind of gesture with her hands.
‘That’d be nice. Yeah, cool, cool. I’ll go get ready then’, I said back.
‘Oh okay’, she said as she walked towards me. ‘Luke show him where the bathroom is’, she said as she patted his head a little.
‘I want to come too!’, Luke screamed as he jumped around.
‘You have a lot of assignments to do buddy’, Cassie said as she knelt close to him.
‘No I don’t’, he said back.
‘Yes you do’, she argued back with him. I’m not so sure, but I think I kind of saw her wink at him.
‘Fine’, he said sounding a little bummed out. ‘I don’t want to hang out with you lame guys anyway’, he continued as he stood up with so much enthusiasm. ‘Come on Damian, I’ll show you where the bathroom is’, Luke said as he lead me to the bathroom.
I bathed finish but didn’t have any clothes to buy, I had been on a pair of shorts and a tee since I left the hospital. Luke didn’t have any clothes that could fit. And I obviously couldn’t wear Cassie’s cloth. I was on a pair of boxers talking with Luke when Cassie came into the room to hand me some clothes.
‘Thought you might need some clothes’, she said as she handed them to me.
‘Oh thanks’, I said, that was when I realized I wasn’t wearing any shirt.
‘I’ll put them on now’, I said as I stood up to collect them, I flexed my abs a little so they would really pop. What? Everyone does it.
‘Um’, she said looking down at them. See? It worked. ‘Yeah yeah, sure’, she said sounding a little lost, she then left the room.
I put on the clothes and they fit perfectly. I went back out to the living room and Cassie was there, she had gotten ready and was waiting for me. She looked… amazing, her think brown hair was shining, her light blue eyes were sparkling, she wore a short flare gown that fitted her perfectly but not as perfect as the smile she wore as she watched something from her phone, she always looked amazing but now she was breathtaking. Was she doing my abs thing?
She finally noticed me and looked up, ‘You’re ready’, she said, that woke me from my day dream.
‘Um-’, I said then hesitated. ‘Yeah yeah sure’, I said. She definitely used my abs thing.
‘Alright, we’ll see you later Luke’, she said as we headed for the door.
‘Yeah yeah’, Luke said as he picked up the roommate and immediately turned the TV on.
‘And Evelyn will be here soon to watch over you’, she finished.
‘Evelyn’s coming?’, he said as he jumped up from the couch. ‘How do I look? How do I look?’, he asked running around.
Who was Evelyn? And why was he behaving this was because of her?
A brunette girl began approaching us, ‘Oh she’s here Luke’, she turned to the girl, ‘Hey Evelyn, what’s up?’. Turns out that’s Evelyn.
‘She’s here?’, Luke screamed from inside. ‘How could you do this to me?’, he went on as he ran around.
‘Heyy Cassie’, Evelyn said as she hugged her. ‘Is this?’, she said excitedly as she turned to me.
‘Come on Evelyn’, Cassie said squinting her eyes. ‘Damian meet Evelyn. Evelyn, Damian’, she said as she introduced her to me.
‘Damian? Nice name’, she said as she stretched her hands to me to shake me.
‘Thanks, I was named after my grandfather’, I replied.
‘Oh, that’s cool. Where are you from?’, she asked me still holding my hands and giving me a stern look.
‘Uhmmmm’, was all I said. I didn’t know what to say. I possibly couldn’t tell her I was a werewolf from a mystic town called Venula. ‘I’m from over here’, I finally said. Cassie’s eyes had widened as she waited for what I would say.
‘California? I didn’t think anyone could be from California’, she said as she started laughing. ‘Cassie hasn’t liked a guy since forever, how’d you possibly do it?’, she asked and laughed a bit again.
I had no idea of what I could say, but I was really happy to hear what she said. That means Cassie likes me too. It was really good to know? I wondered if she had those tingly feelings too.
Luke rushed into the scene and he couldn’t have picked a better time.
‘Hey Evelyn. Didn’t see you there’, he said leaning on the door and he tried to act cool.
‘Hey Luke’, she said and then chuckled.
He looked really funny, he had added something to his hair and was trying really to look cool, he probably had a crush on Evelyn. But wasn’t she… older than him? By a lot.
Anyways Luke came at the perfect time, so I didn’t have to answer Evelyn.
‘Alright, we have to go’, Cassie said to Evelyn as we began leaving.
‘Alright, have fun’, Evelyn said to us as we left. ‘Oh wait up, one more thing’, she said which made us wait to hear what she wanted to say. We turned back to her and she said, ‘I met Jeff on my way by. He’s holding a party this weekend and wants you to come’, she said then winked to her.
‘Oh, oh. Okay’, Cassie replied with a broken voice.
Who was Jeff? Did she like another guy? I couldn’t help but wonder. I stopped myself from asking who Jeff was, we left the apartment and then went to into the car.
We drove for a while and I didn’t know where we were heading, I didn’t think Cassie did either.
‘So how are you enjoying your stay on earth?’, she asked not taking her eyes off the road.
‘Well, technically I am from earth’, I said then chuckled a bit.
‘Oh yeah’, she said laughing a little more still not taking her eyes off the road.
‘Can you teach me that’, I asked referring to how to drive and wonder why I didn’t just say that.
‘Teach you what? How to drive?’, she asked then giggled a little. ‘Yeah sure. Why don’t you start your first lesson now’, she said as she pulled over to an empty parking lot.
We both got out of the car. ‘Here’, she said as she handed the keys to me.
‘What? Just like that? No instruction and all?’, I asked sounding concerned because I was genuinely worried. I didn’t want to crash the car while Cassie was in it.
‘No silly. I’ll be in the car with you, instructing you’, she said. She looked at me and noticed I was a little anxious, ‘Don’t worry about it, nothing’s going to happen. The best way to learn to drive is actually driving’, she said still stretching her hands towards me to give me the key.
I wish Luke knew had to drive, I wouldn’t need to learn anymore. I finally took the key from her and we both went in.
‘Okay so just put the key in the key hole and start the engine’, she said.
I put the key in and turned it a little, the car immediately came to life. At least that was easy, all that’s left now is just actually driving.
‘Alright, slowly step on that pedal’, she said pointing to one of the pedals. I did that and the car slowly started moving. I stepped on it a little harder and the car moved a little bit faster.
‘Okay, slow down a little’, Cassie said laughing.
I kept on driving straight until we approaching where I needed to turn.
‘Alright let go of the gas a little’, she said laying back on the seats. ‘Now, just turn left’, she finished.
I did what she said and the car turned to the left and then I continued going straight.
‘Wow, you’re a natural for someone who once called this a horseless carriage’, she said then we both started laughing. ‘I still don’t know how Luke thought you all this really fast’.
‘I’m a supernatural being, learnt supernaturally’, I said sarcastically even though it was the truth.
‘Fair point’, she said laughing. ‘So don’t you have anyone who would be missing you in Venula?’, she asked.
I took another successful left turn and looked at her and smiled, she smiled back. I kept driving straight. ‘Uhm, maybe my mum’, I replied.
‘Lucky’, she said.
I knew why she said this but she didn’t know I did so I had to act like I didn’t. ‘What’s wrong?’, I asked sounding really concerned.
‘Uhm, it’s really not a big deal but Luke and I left home to get away from my mother and I doubt she misses either of us’, she said with her tearing up a little.
‘Oh, I’m so sorry to hear that’, I said. ‘Luke’s really lucky to have the best sister in the world’, I went on. I removed one of my hands from the wheels to hold her. She held on to it back. I stared at her and immediately got lost in her eyes. She stared back at me and I was certain she was feeling the same way I was.
She finally looked away and immediately screamed, ‘Eyes on the road! Eyes on the road!’.
I looked back at the road and noticed we had almost gotten to the end of the parking lot, I immediately stepped on the brake pedal and the car stopped, pushing both of us deeper into our seats.
We stared at each other breathing deeply. We started laughing hard.
‘That was fun’, she said still breathing hard with her smile on her face.
‘Yeah it was’, I said breathing hard too and smiling at her.
She took over the wheels and then we drove to different places. We went to the park, the beach, the mall and some other places. We didn’t really stop to do anything, we just sight-saw. It was nice.
It was getting late so we decided to head back to the apartment. She drove back and when we were getting close to the apartment she asked, ‘Can you take it from here?’.
‘Nah, I’ll pass’, I said then chuckled.
She laughed then said, ‘Alright then’.
We got to the apartment, got out of the car and went in. Immediately Cassie opened the door her friend Evelyn stood up quickly from the couch and said, ‘Finally. I thought you guys were never coming back’.
‘Sorry we’re late’, Cassie said to her.
‘Nooooooo’, Luke screamed from behind.
‘Good to see you too buddy’, Cassie said to him. She turned back to Evelyn, ‘You’re relived of your babysitter duties’, she said as they bought laughed. ‘Thanks’, she finally finished.
‘It’s nothing’, Evelyn responded as she carried her bags and headed for the door. ‘Hey Damian’, she said waving at me.
‘Hey Evelyn’, I said back with almost no emotion at all.
As she went out of the door she turned back and said to Cassie, ‘Don’t forget about Jeff’s party’.
‘Oh yeah’, Cassie said back not sounding so happy about it. Which I felt was a good thing for me, but also why?
‘Alright byeeeeeee’, Evelyn said as she slammed the door.
‘Alright time for you to go to bed mister, you have school tomorrow’, Cassie said both smirking and giving Luke a stern look at the same time.
‘Yeah yeah’, he said then ran to his bedroom.
Cassie turned over to me, ‘So today was fun’, she said.
‘Yeah’, I said back smiling.
She came in for a hug which ended up as a handshake because I stupidly stretched my hands forward.
‘Alright, goodnight then’, she said then chuckled.
‘Goodnight Cassie’, I said back. I just had to ask. ‘Wait just one more thing’, I couldn’t believe I was about to ask.
‘What’s up?’, she said as she turned back to look at me.
‘Who’s Jeff?’.
