Beer Pong Duel

2128 Words
Damian’s POV: Ping pongs flew from each side of the table sinking into the cup each time. Cassie and I landed all our throws but so did Luke. I was already getting a little tipsy. We had to drink every time Luke sinked it in but Evelyn drank all the cups for him because well they are partners and also he’s too young to drink beer. ‘You can do this Luke!’, Evelyn screamed, she was completely wasted. I picked up the ping pong ball, I took aim and sunk it in like the seasoned pro that I was. I couldn’t miss if I tried. Evelyn chugged again. Luke’s luck run’s out on the next throw. The ball bounces up the rim of a cup, it skittered to the ground and rolls under the ground. ‘Nooo!’, Luke and Evelyn screamed at the same time. ‘Title for Ping Pong queen is still mine’, Cassie screamed. She looked at me, I was staring at her because she said ‘queen’, she then said, ‘king and queen’. Evelyn came between us then asked, ‘but who’s actually better?’ Everything was set up again but this time, Cassie at the other side and not beside me. The game began, there was a lot of sinking and chugging, we both almost puked but went on. ‘Come on Cassie, you can do it’, Evelyn screamed as Cassie took aim and sunk it yet again. She was really a pro. The crowd cheered at their Miss Ping Pong. I picked up the ball and took aim. I looked at Cassie and thought about how this title, even though it wasn’t that much of a big deal probably meant a lot to her. I threw the ball and I intentionally missed, it hit the rim of the cup and landed on the floor. ‘Yes!’, Cassie, Evelyn and Luke screamed. Everyone surrounded her to cheer for her. I couldn’t stop myself from smiling while I was looking at her, her face shined bright and her smile was so wide as the crowd cheered her on. ‘Dance with me please!’, Luke screamed to Evelyn, he was holding a red cup and it seemed like he had taken a sip of beer; seemed like the beer boosted his courage. ‘You know what? What the hell, alright’, Evelyn said as she stretched her hands towards him. They move through the crowd and join the mosh pit of people in the living room. ‘Collect the beer from him’, Cassie screamed to Evelyn which made me laugh, I moved closer to her and put my hands over her shoulder, ‘he’ll be alright’, I said to her. I move back a little then stretched my hands toward her, he held my hand. I lead her to the dance flow and spun her around. I bring her close, it was as if there was no space between us. She puts her hand on my shoulder and I put mine on her lower back, I start swaying my hips side to side. She follows me and then we burst out in laughter. ‘I had a lot of ball dancing in Venula’, I said to her then chuckled a bit. ‘Well this is good’, she said. ‘Really?’ ‘No it’s scary’, she said then we both burst into laughter. ‘Ladies in Venula would die to experience this perfection’, I said gesturing like I was a professional dancer. Cassie laughed. I grab her again then skinned her around slowly. She makes almost a full 360 degrees without falling. I pulled her back and held her close. I felt her heart beat in response to mine. We slow dance in the midst of people and I didn’t even care how we looked doing our weird dance in front of all of them. I had never felt so perfectly connected to anyone or anything in my whole life. I get that tingling feeling, and her face changed a little which told me she probably felt it too. I looked down at her, then down at her lips. She closed her eyes and then I leaned in slowly. Then…. Luke ran in between us, separating us. The moment was lost. ‘THIS IS THE BEST NIGHT OF MY LIFE’, he whooped as he pointed at Evelyn. Luke was always energetic but now he was looking so positively blissful. ‘SHE KISSED ME’. ‘What?’; Cassie and I let out at the same time. We stared over at Evelyn who immediately shouted, ‘It was out of pity. And it was a peck!’. ‘If you ever say that again, I’ll kill you!’, she said as she came over to get Luke. Cassie and I laughed at she took him away. I turned back to Cassie and we stared at each other again. I was about to lean in for the kiss when she said, ‘Wanna go outside?’. ‘Uhm, Yeah sure’, I said and nodded. Was it just me? Does she actually feel the same way I felt toward her? Does she also get that tingly feeling. We headed out of the party. Cassie and I walked slowly down the middle of the road, there weren’t any cars around so we just wondered. She finally reached out for my hand. The night was silent so our footsteps echoed pass every quiet house we passed. ‘I’m really sorry for lying to you, you know? About the whole Jeff thing.’, she said, which broke the silent. ‘It’s not a big deal, and it’s not like we’re a thing or anything’, I stupidly blurted out. ‘True’, she said which shattered my heart a little. ‘But you deserve the truth’, she finished. ‘Uhm if we’re talking about not being honest. I lost the last shot at beer pong on purpose’, I said to her. ‘Oh I knew’, she said. ‘For real?’, I asked surprised. She chuckled a bit then said, ‘Yeah. You’re a werewolf with incredible eye sight. That lost shot was obviously on purpose’, she said. ‘Buuuut, I still would have won you if we continued’, she finished then laughed. I laughed back. ‘Thank you though’, she finally said. ‘Not a problem, Miss Beer pong’, I said then chuckled. ‘And also, thanks’, I said as I looked down at her. ‘For everything’, I continued. ‘Oh Tonight? It’s no big deal’, she shrugged. ‘No, everything. I can’t imagine life over here if I hadn’t met you’, I said . ‘I would probably be dead’, I said then chuckled a bit, she did too. ‘But you saved me, and you took me into your home and these few weeks have really been the best days of my life, with you and Luke and… okay Evelyn’, this made her laugh and then I laughed too. ‘But for real. Thank you, I really appreciate it’. I looked at her and she grinned widely at me. ‘You’re welcome’, she said then I hugged her slowly. I let go and then she asked, ‘So do you ever plan on going back to Venula?’, she asked. ‘Uhm yeah, was thinking of leaving tomorrow’, I said. ‘What?’, she asked quickly. I started laughing, ‘That was a joke’, I said. ‘I really don’t know when I’m going to return, or if I do to be honest. My life in Venula was like hell. Just that hell’s a little cooler’, I said then we both chuckled. ‘Right now I’m just trying to live life by each day and I don’t, one day I might just go back to Venula’, I continued. She looked up at me then said, ‘Oh, okay’. ‘How about you?’, I asked. ‘What about me?’, she asked as she chuckled and gave me a face that said I didn’t do anything. ‘You ever going to go see your mom again?’, I asked her. ‘Oh’, she said as we stopped near a bus bench then sat down. ‘Luke and I left home for about 4 years now and my mum has never tried to reach out. So it’s pretty clear she doesn’t want to see us’, she said as she looked down to the ground. I moved closer to her, ‘I’m sorry’, I said. ‘It’s alright’, she said with a broken voice. ‘It’s not’, I said as I moved even closer to her then put my hands over her. She was crying. ‘I’m really sorry’, I said as I hugged her even tighter. We stayed like that for a while. ‘Thank you’, she said. ‘Let’s get back to the party’, she said as she put on a fake smile and wiped away her tears. ‘Alright’, I said then also put on a fake smile. I stood up and then I stretched my hands to her who was still sitting down. She took my hands and then got up. We walked back to the party. It was a shorter walk than before. We got back to the party and met Jeff at the entrance. ‘Cassie!’, he shouted immediately he sighted us. ‘I’ve looked everywhere for you’, he said. ‘It’s fine Jeff, I was with Damian’, she said. ‘Oh’, he said. ‘Well I have somethings I brought back from MIT that you might like to see and a lot of stories you’ll like to hear.’, he said gesturing for her to come. ‘Uhmm’, she said. ‘Thanks, but I’ll stay with Damian’, she said holding my arm. I could see the jealousy in Jeff’s face and it made me really happy. We turned back and left him and I could still feel the jealousy in him. After we walked for a while I mustered up enough courage then asked. ‘So what went wrong with you and Jeff?’ ‘Uhmm’, she let out. ‘You don’t have to talk if you don’t want to’, I said. ‘No, it’s alright’, she replied. ‘Okay, things were okay with Jeff and I until he went off to college and I couldn’t go because I had to stay here and take care of Luke’, she said then gave off a sigh. ‘When he left, after a while he stopped replying my texts’. ‘For real? That’s messed up’, I said sharply. ‘Yeah’, she said then faked a laugh. ‘I thought you broke up with him or something, since he’s the one who ended things, in a bad way no less. Why’s he trying to get you now?’, I asked. ‘Well sometimes you guys think with your butts’, she said. She looked up to me then said, ‘No offense’. Then we both laughed. ‘I’m not a human guy so, none taken’, I said to her then chuckled. ‘What makes you think you don’t think with your butt too?’, she asked then laughed. I laughed too then looked at her, ‘Cause I’m not stupid enough to give up a perfect girl like you’, I said staring deep in her eyes. We closed our eyes then leaned in towards each other again. Was it going to happen this time? I really hoped so. ‘Finally, you guys!’, Evelyn screamed. I couldn’t catch a break. ‘Hey Evelyn’, Cassie said as we moved away from each other quickly. ‘I’ve been looking for you guys for like… forever’, she said. Luke had fallen asleep and she was backing him. ‘Let’s go home!’, she finished. ‘I’m sorry Evelyn, we just went for a little work’, Cassie explained. ‘No problem but let’s start heading home, I’ve been carrying Luke for a while now’, she said. I went towards Evelyn to get Luke and help her carry him. ‘Thanks Damian’, Evelyn said as she handed him over to me. ‘Alright let’s get going then’, Cassie said. We headed for the car and we all got in. I laid Luke in the back seat beside me. Evelyn and Cassie talked about the party throughout the ride home while I, well thought about the party throughout the ride home. We stopped at Evelyn’s place first and dropped her off, then we headed home. We got home and I had to carry Luke to his bed because he still didn’t wake up. ‘Goodnight’, I said to Cassie as she went into her room. ‘Goodnight’, she said back to me then went in. I laid down on the couch and thought about that day again. Hmm, my first party over there. Not bad.
