Chapter 20

“It has to be worth a fortune. How did you afford a ring like that?” Yara inquired. I wanted to smack her for being so rude. As if feeling my frustration, Bryan took my hand in his. “It did cost a fortune. The ring belonged to my Great Grandmother and I had the emeralds added. They were an added touch from Mr. Green eyes.” He said, looking at me the entire time. “Mr. Green eyes.” I whispered. He leaned over to me and placed a soft kiss on my lips. Interrupting our moment, Yara asked again. “But how did you afford the emeralds? You aren’t an Alpha.” “YARA, THAT IS ENOUGH!” Alpha Mason said in his Alpha tone. “I am so sorry for her ignorance.” “It’s fine. I don’t mind. Have you ever heard of BryBlack Corp.? Bryan asked Yara. Her face still flushed from the embarrassment, she nodded her head yes. “That is my company.” Her mouth dropped open. “That’s your company?” “Yes, my company. I started it and I run it. Any more questions?” She shook her head no and looked down at her plate. The rest of lunch was uneventful. I couldn’t wait to get some alone time with Bryan. After lunch, Alpha Mason, Lucas, and Yara went back to their pack. I wasn’t sure about why the three Alpha’s have been meeting so often and spending time in each others packs but as a daughter of a Beta, it was information I was not privileged to know. As we were leaving the pack house Alpha Edwards asked Oli to join him in his office. “We can wait for you in the game room.” I told him. “Nah you go, I know how to make it home. Turns out your pack doesn’t care I was an Omega before becoming a warrior. The ladies love me.” He said, wiggling his eyebrows. I rolled my eyes and took Bryan by the hand. “I can’t believe you are here! What about your grandparents and your business?” He stopped walking and pulled me to him. “You don’t get it, do you? You are the most important thing to me. When you walked into dinner that first night, I knew you were my mate. I also knew that you hadn’t been fully rejected. From that moment I would do anything for you.” "How did you know?" "Duke could feel Aura and well, to be honest....You were quite the talk of the Academy. Titan sort of told us about your mate and that you were super hot." I wrapped my arms around his neck and planted a hard kiss on his lips. “I love you!” “I love you too!” “I want to take you on a real date tonight.” “ OK.” I said, the excitement building. I was about to go on my first date with my mate. Lucas’s POV The ride home felt like it took forever. I didn’t know what I was feeling. I didn’t think I wanted my mate, but every minute I spent with her the more I wanted her. She was beautiful and smart and Yara was being so annoying lately. All she talked about was the wedding and she was spending so much of my Dad’s money and he was pissed. Now she was heading to Paris. Fu$k I am such an i***t. As soon as we got back to the pack house, my father sent Yara home and, to be honest, I needed a break. I couldn’t imagine I would ever need a break from Liv. “What the hell is going on, Lucas?” “What?” “Do you think I am an i***t? I see how you look at Olivia Kincaid. Is she your mate? Don’t even think about lying to me.” “Yes.” Was all I could say. “WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU? YOU PICKED YARA OVER YOUR MATE.” “Dad, I love Yara and we have been together for 5 years.” “Lucas, she isn’t your mate. Do you realize how amazing Olivia is and what that could mean for the pack. Let alone you. Don’t you understand that your mate, your true mate, can only make you stronger?” “Dad, I am still really strong.” “You i***t, it's not what they mean by stronger. Do you ever pay attention to me? Sometimes, when true mates find each other, they can give each other power. Enhanced senses being just one of them.” “Really.” “Yes and if you look at everything Olivia has accomplished at the age of 18, I can only imagine what will happen when she mates with her second chance mate. Just the fact that she found her second chance mate so quickly tells me she is something special and she has been meant for you.” “I don’t know what to do Dad. I didn’t think I wanted her and the few times I have seen her I crave her.” “ It doesn’t matter anymore. She loves her second chance mate. You don’t stand a chance of getting her back.” Could I get her back. Could I leave Yara? Everybody knows the bond between mates is always stronger than second-chance mates. But the question was, what did I want to do?
