She just walked in and said "We need to talk because I'm pregnant." like it was nothing. Alex was in shock. This couldn't be true. It was just one night. Just one stupid God damn night.
Vic is "The b***h" she can't be pregnant. This has to be a cruel joke. She has to be f*****g with him. It just can't be true.
Alex was brought out of all his thoughts by Vic telling him to say something. While snapping her fingers in front of his face. "No you're not." was all he could manage to say. As if that would make it true.
Vic just stared at him for a second before saying "You think I want to be. I took four f*****g tests. They all said I am. I f*****g hate you. Why the f**k would I want to have your child?"
Okay so maybe Alex took that the wrong way. Because he blew up "YOU ARE NOT HAVING AN ABORTION." he screamed. The next state over probably heard him. Vic just gapped at him.
How the hell did he think she meant that. She replayed the conversation so far. Then it hit her she calmly said, "That isn't what I meant. I... Am... Not...Having...An... Abortion. I promise! I just meant we don't even like each other.
One thing Vic wasn't was a murderer. She may not be all that conservative but she did know that All Lives Mattered. Every child deserved a chance.
Alex took a deep breath and sat back down. He asked "Just give me a second?" So Vic sat back down across from him waiting.
She had already begun to think about what would need to be done. She would have to notify the hospital. It probably wasn't a good idea to continue her residency while pregnant. She could most likely go back to being a Physician's Assistant. She would have to find a bigger place so she could get set up for the baby. Vic had already thought about all this.
While Alex was processing the fact that he was going to be a father. Finally, he asked "Okay, so what are you planning on doing?"
Vic looked him dead in the eyes and told him "I am going to quit my residency. I can't very well work thirty six hour shifts while pregnant. I will ask for my job as a Physician's Assistant back. I'll have to find a bigger place to start getting ready for the baby. First and foremost though I will have to schedule a doctor's appointment. What you do is up to you."
With that she stood and walked to the kitchen. She said good night to Zach and Maggie before leaving.
Alex sat there stunned he just found respect for Vic. She was going to keep the baby with or without him. She already knew what needed to be done. She fully intended to do it. He didn't like that she planned to continue working in some way. That he could deal with later though.
He couldn't fault her for not being happy about the baby. Because she was right they didn't like each other. In fact they practically hated each other. They even said so on several occasions.
Zach and Maggie walked into the room pulling Alex out of his head again. "Alex are you okay?" Maggie asked looking concerned. He responded "Well considering I just found out "The b***h" is pregnant with my child. I am doing okay."
Zach chuckled as he said "You'll need to stop calling her that. Now that she's going to have your baby. I mean she will be your child's mother." "Yeah you're probably right." Alex admitted.
"So, how are you going to handle this?" Maggie asked. He was quiet for a moment before saying "I guess I'm going to be a father."
They sat there talking for another hour. About what he was planning to do. Then switched over to random conversation before Alex headed home.
The next day Vic walked in to the hospital to speak to H.R.. Walking through the doors she noticed Alex was there. She found that odd considering they were on the same rotation.
She just couldn't seem to escape him. Well she actually hoped it would be the case. She shuddered at the thought that she actually wanted him around now that she was pregnant. She wondered how they would make it work. That is if he even wanted to be in the babies life.
She walked into H.R. and asked for Sarah. Then took a seat. As she waited she saw Alex walk in. To her surprise he sat down next to her.
"Why are you here?" she asked. Alex turned to look at her. He spoke in almost a whisper "I need to talk to you." "Not here." she said. He nodded as he stood up and walked out.
Vic spent an hour with Sarah figuring everything out. As she was leaving she saw Alex waiting for her outside. She sighed stepping through the door. "Come on I'll buy lunch." he said. She wanted to tell him she could buy her own lunch but decided against it. So she said "Okay, I'm driving my car though. I don't want to be stuck at a restaurant." He rolled his eyes and they left each taking their own cars.
They sat down at the diner. Once they had their food he started "We need to get married." Vic laughed. She laughed so hard it was nearly silent. Once she stopped she realized he was serious. "You're insane! I'm not marrying you. You can't be serious. We can't stand each other."
He had to admit that was true but he had to do the right thing for their child. That meant having a mother and father. Whether or not they liked each other didn't matter. "Look I know we can't stand each other. It's not about us though. We're going to be parents and a child needs to be in a home with both parents." he responded.
Vic couldn't believe what she was hearing. Was he really saying that their child needed to see his or her parents fighting twenty four- seven. He really was insane. "So you're saying that our child deserves to watch us fight all day every day?" she asked.
Alex responded "We'll just have to get along. Even if it means not speaking to each other or sharing a room. I want our child to have my name." She said "Fine the baby can have your last name. No I am not marrying you. Last I checked it wasn't a requirement."
He let out an exasperated sigh. Then said "Look it's what's best for our child." Vic saw he wasn't ready to give up on this insane notion. So she offered a compromise "How about this. I will move in with you. That way we'll be under the same roof. I can still move out later if we don't kill each other.". He agreed but added "I won't kill you. At least not until the babies born. I mean it's not his fault."
Vic was mentally punching herself for even suggesting she move in with him. This was SO going to end badly.
