Chapter 1
I saw how it was raining behind the car window. My father, my brother and I, moved to New York because of some problems. Obviously I was not happy with this. In my previous home I didn’t have so many friends, rather well, known. But I felt comfortable, that was the most important thing. But now what matters most is, how am I going to survive in a place I don't know? What if they judge me for how I am? Or what if they don’t like me?
I felt the car stop, my dad gets out of it and walks back towards the moving truck.
My brother turned to look at the back seat, where he was sitting.
“ How about the new house?” He asks while he looks at me with a playful smile.
“It sucks.“ I say frowning.
“Well I hope you think the same about the school.” He said as he turned around, and got out of the car.
I went down too, and went after him.
“ What 's up?” asked my father, with a big smile. “ Nothing bad.” Dylan says as he admires the house.
“It depends on the room.” I yelled up the stairs.
I walked into the room, and ... There was no color, no bed, or anything. It was just an empty, lifeless room.
Dylan walks in, and looks around.
“Wow, thank goodness, I won't have to paint mine.” he said laughing.
“What? It can't be. Does yours have color? Now I will have to paint it myself.”
I was not going to place the furniture before painting it. So I decided to go to the store.
“ Hey dad, do you know where there is a*****e? To buy paint.” I asked him as I went down the stairs quickly.
I didn't know this place, but my dad definitely did. He met my mom here in New York but they had to move because my mom found a better job.
“Yes, of course, in the corner. Do you want me to take you? ” he asked, when he grabbed the car keys.
“No, thanks, I’ll walk, so I can explore a little.” I said as I went through the door.
I left the house, and I walked away. When I was walking, the sun illuminated my face, and a smell of pollution and trees hit my nostrils. After a few minutes, I reached the store. It was closer than I thought.
I went to the painting section. Sometimes I am very indecisive. So it was very difficult. I was standing there for a really long time.
“Can I help you with something?“ I hear a male voice addressing me.
I turn around, and see a boy with dark brown hair, wearing glasses, smiling at me. He looked like a nerd honestly. He had an apron that said, Super Store, and a tag that said Kevin.
“Yes, of course, I’m looking for a color for my room.” I return the smile.
“ Well, coming from a girl, I think mint green is a good color.” he said to me as he showed me a bucket of paint.
“Wow, you have good taste.” I said with a friendly smile.
“ Yes, they tell me that a lot.” He said.
“Okay, I'm taking this one.” I said excited.
He smiled at me, and took the paint bucket away. He had a tight shirt, with short sleeves that made him show his muscles when he lifted the bucket.
“I'm Kevin.” He introduced himself with a smile, he’s always smiling.
“Kate.” I smiled back.
Even though I already knew his name from the label, I pretended not to.
“Are you new here?” He asked me when we went to the box.
“Yes i am” I answered.
“If you want one day, you know, to show you the place” He said while scratching his head with his right hand.
“ Yes, of course, thank you.” I said as he gave me the bucket of paint, and I gave him the money.
“You're welcome, I hope to see you again.” He said as he gave me the change.
I gave him a slight smile, and left.
I headed home.Obviously I was tired. It was six o'clock in the afternoon. I wasn't going to paint That today, so I walked my bed into my room, took a shower, and went to bed. I was so lazy, that I had forgotten to eat dinner that night.
The next day, I took a shower, dressed somewhat comfortably, and just painted my room. I fixed everything, and went downstairs. My dad was making breakfast, and as always, my brother was sleeping.
“Hello daughter, have you painted your room yet?” Asks my father as he served himself a plate.
“Yes, how exhausting.” I said while taking a muffin, and put it in my mouth.
“Classes start tomorrow.” he said.
“Yes, I know. What did you say the name of the school was?”.
“Hoover high school.” - He answers.
“Yes of course.” I walked to the living room.
“Oh, what a horror, put on some clothes.” I told Dylan, who was walking like a zombie in his underpants.
“ Yes, yes, don't bother me now.” He says grumpily.
“Oh, I think someone is in a bad mood.” I said with a mocking voice.
“I said leave me alone.'' He yelled as he headed for the bathroom.
Usually Dylan is in a good mood, and he keeps telling jokes, I don't know what hit him today.
“Dad, I'm going out, I don't want Dylan to infect me with his bad mood, and here it sucks.” - I said while putting on my shoes.
“Oh, what's wrong?” He says with an offended face.
“No, really, sucks here.” I said holding my nose.
I left the house, and went to the nearest coffee shop.
