SHAWNA WAS CAUGHT IN a deep sleep, a sleep that dragged her deep down into darkness and wouldn’t let her go. At first, she’d welcomed sleep. It had been wonderful to escape from what was happening in her life right now.
But after a while, Shawna started to feel like something was wrong. When she wanted to open her eyes, she felt like her power was keeping her under, and she was stuck in the darkness even when she wasn’t asleep anymore.
Shawna started fighting to wake up and realized that it was magic that kept her down in the black. Magic from someone else? She started to panic, breathing hard, her heart rate climbing.
