CH.2 Rose

He is my mate? No this was all some kind of joke. Looking into his blue eyes for the first time. I was lost in them, but I could tell that it wasn’t a joke. The storm clouds that gathered there were real. I couldn’t help but laugh at first. My laugh quickly turned into a frustrated scream. “The goddess must truly hate me.” I said, taking another hit from my cigarette.  Jack looked confused as he asked “Why would you say that?”  “Ten years, for the past ten years I have been waiting for the day I could leave this damn pack.” I bit out “I thought there was no way the Moon Goddess would make me stay with the people that beat me senseless almost everyday.”  “What are you talking about?” His eyes roamed over me. “Why haven’t your bruises healed in the slightest? Even if you got in a fight before I arrived surely they should be somewhat healed by now.”  I let out a humorless laugh. “You can thank your pack for that. When you indor beating after beating. It becomes too much for the body to keep up with the healing. I don’t heal properly anymore. My body is starting to shut down. I can barely eat without throwing up, even when I’m starving. It’s just too much for my body to take.” I don’t know why all of a sudden I was telling him these things. Nor did I realize that I had been crying. Until Jack closed the distance and wiped my tears away. He pulled me to his chest and held me gently. I breathed in his scent and for a moment I felt at peace.  “Baby girl I am so sorry. I had no idea I sware to you.” I caught myself before I could fall into him any more. I pulled away from him straightening myself. Jack looked questionably at my sudden action.  “How do I know this isn’t some sort of trick? You, an Alpha, are mated to me, an Omega? Please just go back to your friends, laugh about it and leave me alone.” I told him as I moved to go back inside. Before I could get to the door he stopped me.  “Please let me prove to you that I am your mate.”  I flicked my cigarette across the alley. “The only way I will believe you is when I’m eighteen and feel it for myself.” I could tell that even saying that he wasn’t going to stop.  “Then let me be your boyfriend until then. Please, now that I have finally found you. I can’t go a day without you.” No, that’s to close, my brain warned me.  “You can be my friend, nothing more. I have been humiliated my entire life. I will not let you be the next one.”  Jack held up his hands “fine I will take what I can get, but you will see that I am your mate.” I nodded and went back inside. Jack followed close behind me.  As I made my way back behind the counter Jack’s Beta and Gamma were still sitting there. They straightened when they saw Jack behind me. Sam handed me a brand new container of the concealer I use. I mouthed a thank you to her. I slipped back into the bathroom to fix up my face. I’m glad I rarely wore anything other than long sleeves and pants. With the occasional turtle neck. If that is how Jack reacted to just my face. I can only imagine what he would be like if he saw the rest of me. Clearing my head I made my way back to the front. Jack and his boys were still sitting at the counter, just eating away. Jack’s Beta was busy chatting with Sam so I started wrapping silverware. It was our midday slump. So I was getting all the restocking taken care of.  As I worked, everywhere I went I felt eyes following me. I didn’t need to look to know who they belonged to. Everytime a male customer would get too close, or be too friendly. A low growl could be heard throughout the dinner.  I was behind the counter straightening things to keep myself busy. I was getting pissed at Jack. His immature behavior was hurting my tips. Him and his friends have been here for an hour and a half now. All I wanted was for them to leave. Coming up off the floor with a new bag of napkins. I nearly head but Jack in the face. “Oh, I’m sorry I was just looking for you.” He said with a grin that told me he knew exactly where I was. I rolled my eyes and started refilling a few napkin holders. “I just wanted to say that I have to take off, but I wanted to ask you something.” He said taking the holders away from me. Leaving me nothing to distract myself with.  I puffed out a breath and looked straight at his chest. “What can I do for you Alpha Jack? Do you need a to go box, or perhaps a refill?” I just wanted him gone. He was rubbing on my last nerve and I was about to snap.  He gave me an ‘are you kidding me’ look before showing off his boyish smile. “No Rose, I was wondering when your shift is done?” I looked at him skeptically “why?”  “Well I wanted to pick you up and maybe we could hang out for a while.” I was about to tell him no but he went on to say. “I’m not taking no for an answer Rose.” His eyes flashed an electric blue. Telling me I truly had no choice in the matter. That doesn't mean that I can’t give him the wrong time on accident.  “I’m done at eight,” I told him. He seemed to have bought it because he smiled at me. Giving me a perfect view of his straight white teeth.  “Sounds good baby, I’ll see you then.” He said winking at me as he walked back to his friends. As soon as they were out of the door Sam rushed to me.  “This is from your mate.” She said gushing as she slipped something in the pocket of my apron. I was about to say that he wasn’t my mate, but Sam scurried away to the other side of the old fashion dinner. I dug out what she had given me. It was a piece of paper. Unfolding it a fifty dollar bill slipped out. I grabbed the fifty and read the note.  My Rose, Here is a tip for the beautiful service. I’m sorry if my behavior interfered with your work. I want to be the only man to take care of you. I want to be the man you smile at and laugh with, like you do your customers. I know you don’t believe me, but you are my mate. I will spend every day until your birthday proving that to you.  See you later baby. Yours forever, Jack Okay there is no way all this is not a part of some sick joke.
